In a reality where everything had already fallen apart, Maxine Caulfield was unabled to save Chloe Price. After one too many attempts, one too many timelines, there was nothing left to fix, nothing left to piece back together and no version of the world where Chloe survived.
A week after the funeral, Max disappeared.
She quit her job at Caledon University, leaving behind her apartment, her belongings, her entire life. She took only the bare essentials: a few clothes, fragments of memories... and her camera, a relic of a past that no longer made any sense. Without a word, she returned to Arcadia Bay. Where it had all begun, where it all should have ended differently.
The ocean was calm. For the first time in a long while, Max wasn't trying to turn back the clock.
Time had lost all meaning. There were no second chances left. There was only one decision left to make.
Just one.
But when the moment finally arrived... something went wrong.
Something that should never have happened.

Summary
She looked at the painting herself. The resemblance was striking, but something was different, almost imperceptible. Thanks to the photographer's keen gaze, Victoria noticed. She looked more relaxed, the corners of her lips turned up not in a sarcastic smirk, but in something like a smile. Overall, the image was much softer than the real one.
The caption read "Victoria Chase 12.09.13.".
Heart was pounding so loudly in chest and drowned out most of thoughts. Most, but not all. "Why did Kate Marsh draw Victoria of all people?"
