Guilt weighs on him, far heavier than the artificial gravity holding him against the floor. “It's not that simple…”
“Grace promise watch Rocky sleep always. Grace promise Grace live, go to Erid with Rocky. Grace break promise plural.”
He takes a shaky breath, unsure of what to say.
“...I’m sorry. I didn't… want to.”
“Then why?”
He can't articulate an answer.
Grace struggles to make peace with his past and cannot find it in himself to be the savior that the universe needs.
Fortunately for the universe, Grace isn't alone, and is surrounded by love whether he likes it or not.
