Summary
Remus Lupin is not having a midlife crisis. It is a perfectly normal thing for a man in his mid 40s to desire a simple change in his life. Sometimes that change happens to come in the form of learning to ride a motorcycle, which then leads to events that reunite him with his ex, with whom things ended… complicated at best.
Naturally, they handle everything in the way only they can: lack of communication and giving into their desires.

Summary
Maybe Sirius should think for more than two seconds before making the most violent decisions possible. Or maybe Remus should just listen to Sirius for once in his life. And maybe there’s simply no going back at all.
Alternatively, canon divergence where in 1978, Sirius makes a relationship-ending decision on Remus's behalf, causing Remus to leave Hogwarts and sever his ties to the Wizarding World completely. Cut to 1982, and Remus still can't decide whether he wants to kill or kiss Sirius, or both.
It’s funny how fate (and some light stalking) always finds a way to bring us back to those we love–or, in Remus's case, fucking despise.
