“Okay. I’ll get straight to the point, then. What are you doing here?”
Armand blinks up at him, still completely motionless on the couch.
“I’ve come to check up on you,” he says, as if stating the obvious. It’s the first he’s heard of his voice, outside of his own hazy recollections, in nearly two years, and Daniel tries not to linger on that thought. He focuses instead on the irritation steadily bubbling up in him.
“Okay, wait. Sorry,” he amends, “let me rephrase that—why are you here now?”
Armand falls back into silence. Daniel snorts.
