Duo should probably tell Heero that it's okay for a falcon to stare right through people with laser eyes, but for people it doesn't come across as 'paying attention' so much as 'planning the best way to dig out your eyeballs with a spoon.'

From the rest of the battlefield the bird looks gone; Heero's body seems broken beyond repair and the explosion would have hidden her death-sparks either way. Trowa is the only one who sees a small orange-red wing sticking out partway from under Heero's battered body. -

Ethan’s fox looked nothing like the Soul Animals of those who had found their soulmates, or those who’d completely accepted they wouldn’t find theirs. The bond tying him to his Soul Animal was only transmitting his pain, the loss he felt for someone he hadn’t even met.
His poor fox, whom years ago a much younger Ethan had enthusiastically named Bean, walked with a drooping tail, head lowered, eyes downcast. Sometimes, Ethan felt bad for the pain he caused Bean, for the suffering she endured because he couldn’t stop moping around, couldn’t stop feeling like he’d lost a part of himself when he’d never even found that part to begin with.
Mostly, though, Ethan didn’t pay her much mind. He’d grown used to Bean’s moping, to the way she trailed after him, and almost forgot she was there at times.

All bright shitty hair, sharp teeth, and seemingly unperturbed by the weather given that he’s been strolling around without a shirt in the fucking snow, an antithesis to the tortoise halfway tucked into his shell, looking content on the mattress.
Kirishima smoothed a hand over the bumpy shell, smiling down at the tortoise with so much love in his eyes, like he didn’t have the most inconvenient daemon ever. He didn’t seem to care at all about the shitty hand life had dealt him, that didn’t even match with him.
Katsuki’s travel companion didn’t make sense.
