Summary
“Jedi,” the Armorer called after him. Luke turned in the doorway to face her. She was bent over her blueprints still, but Luke could sense that her full attention was with him. “If you run away from that which you fear, you only open yourself to a strike from behind. Better to face that fear, and acknowledge it for what it is. This is the Way.”
He considered her, wondering what motivations were at work behind that dark visor. Speaking of fear to a Jedi was no small thing. Even so, he did not believe her intentions were ill. “And what is fear?” he asked.
“A compass.”

Elrond sighs, with resignation that Bilbo detects without looking at him. “Yes. The forests on the Mountain, the fields around Dale, and the city itself have been burned. Many people have lost their lives, and those who survived have nothing.”
Is that not familiar as well, Bilbo muses bitterly. “But Gandalf is there to help them,” he says and wishes he could have said the same about his own people and land. “So it all should be well.”
Elrond does not reply. His silence lasts long enough for Bilbo to understand it.
