Summary
When Zuko was born, he was sick. He wasn't supposed to live. Everyone said it was Zuko's fate to die. Agni disagreed. Zuko was blessed with life. He lived, much to Ozai's dismay. When Zuko is banished, he does not look for The Avatar. He doesn't believe The Avatar is still out there. Then, while Zuko and Iroh are sailing around the South Pole, they see that brilliant light in the sky. Zuko knows, this is where his life changes.
Or: Zuko, blessed by the Sun Spirit, joins the Gaang early as they're being hunted by Azula.

Summary
Sokka doesn't believe in spirits. Unfortunately, a harsh winter hits his tribe and gets Gran-gran sick. The elder's prayers have gone unanswered. Desperate, he turns to an old foreign ritual hidden in the pages of a dusty book and summons an ancient sun spirit from the other side of the world.
The spirit is beautiful, annoying and apparently willing to help, for a price.
Sokka is beginning to think the harsh winter might not be his biggest problem.

Summary
Before the time of the Avatar the spirits danced. As the humans grew, they learned from the dances and eventually made it their own. They gained the gifts of elements from the spirits who fell in love with their dance. In order to keep balance between those with different gifts, the Avatar was not the only spirit that moved through humans. The spirits of the major elements also bonded themselves to a human vessel, much like the Avatar spirit. That souldbonded human was to serve as the link between the great spirit and the human world. They were also meant to be the teachers of the Avatar to assist in keeping balance in a world full of wonder and power.
That was true, until everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

Sokka is twenty years old when he meets Zuko, when the Fire Lord sends him to the Southern Water Tribe along with a new Fire Nation ambassador. Sokka expects it to be nothing short of torturous. He doesn’t expect he’ll get along with Zuko, or that he’ll find that they have far more in common than originally thought. And he most certainly does not expect to fall in love when he knows his time is running out.
But love cares not for logic, and Sokka and Zuko decide that maybe they can allow themselves to be happy.
Until Zuko’s time in the Southern Water Tribe draws to an end, and in the midst of the Winter Solstice festival, nefarious plans come to light. Will the two be able to save the water tribes, along with help from their friends? Or is destruction how fate intends to enact her vengeance on two boys who were never supposed to get a happily ever after?

Summary
In the palace, Zuko was the banished prince. A disgrace to the Fire Lord and Fire Nation, honorless and cowardly. But beyond those walls, to the people themselves, Zuko was their hope. Hope that this war would end soon, that their futures would be more than ash and war. His eyes and fire, bright as the sun itself, were the symbols of the new era.
The citizens of the Fire Nation had always loved Zuko more than they feared Ozai.

Zuko is banished and realizes that his father is a liar, they aren't bringing prosperity to the world. They're destroying it and everything that makes it beautiful. He spends years playing his part, secretly working with the rebels while "searching" for the avatar. He never expected to actually find him, but when it comes down to it Zuko knows what choice he'll make.
After all, a little treason was good for the soul.

Rumors of a hidden Fire Nation stronghold had circulated down in Gaoling. The Wani’s crew had whispered about it where they thought Zuko couldn’t hear; hushed voices relaying tales of Fire Nation aggression. Increased patrols, reneged trade agreements, violated treaties.
There’d been fantastical stories. That the Fire Lord was building an army of dragons. That entire platoons of Earth Kingdom soldiers had fallen to archers who could shoot the wings off a sparrow fly. That the Fire Nation planned to conquer the world under the light of a comet, starting with the Air Nomads.
For every outrageous rumor, however, there were far more believable ones. Reports of a skirmish with the Northern Water Tribe that had ended in the Island of Arfeq falling under Fire Nation control. Captured Messenger Hawks from high-ranking generals revealing Yu Dao would be next.

The day after his 20th birthday Prince Sokka of the Northern Tribe finds out he has been engaged to and man he has never met. Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation has known since he was 13 that one day he will marry Prince Sokka and is not allowed to see him until they were both 20. Both Princes are blessed with life energy from the Moon Spirit Tui and the Sun Spirit Ina respectively; not only is it rare for spirits to have vessels alive at the same time, let alone the same age, but also Princes of their respective Nations. Both men are not exactly taking it well. Sokka plans to avoid charming or being charmed by Zuko, and Zuko wants nothing more then to go back to his peaceful quiet life behind the palace walls. With one month left until their very public wedding they need a plan and they need one fast!

Some days, when the scent of dew is heavy in the air and Agni’s rays lend an iridescent quality to the colors of the sky and the grass, Sokka finds himself in the company of the Sun Spirit.
“You are sad today,” the Sun Spirit observes.
“Yeah.” Sokka exhales.
“You are… missing something?”
“SomeONE,” Sokka corrects. “A… long-lost friend.” The Sun Spirit frowns a little, lips that had once been capable of the most endearingly awkward smile pulling down. Sokka looks at the soft waves of dark hair, more lustrous than they’ve ever been in the Spirit’s actual lifetime, and the way it curls over once-familiar golden eyes. He feels his heart hollow a little more.
Sokka had thought he and Zuko would have had more time together.
