Summary
Jackson Whittemore, a detective with the NYPD, has recently reconnected with Stiles Stilinski, an old friend from high school, when he gets called out to a bloody scene and finds a photograph of Stiles with notorious mob boss Derek Hale and the words “Protect your weak spot” scribbled across the bottom. What follows is a race to find Stiles, figure out what the photograph and message mean, and maybe bring down a few mob bosses along the way.
Derek Hale didn’t mean to fall in love with Stiles Stilinski, but he did. In his line of business, it is unwise to advertise such weaknesses as significant others, and he does his best to impress this upon Stiles. One of Derek’s main rivals, another mob boss, finds out about their secretive relationship and sends some men after Stiles. Derek intercepts them, there’s a shootout, and Derek is the only survivor. He collects Stiles and they go on the run, just until things cool down. But while they hide away, their relationship only gets hotter.

Beacon Hills barely knew him. No one knew he was a historical fiction author, for one. And no one talked about the fire anymore that took 11 members of his family about a decade ago. No one cared anymore. It was ancient history. Forgotten. A tiny piece of Derek ached bone deep at that thought, but he squashed it down. This was better than the pitying, judgy looks, and everyone using his family's tragedy for gossip.
Everything was going great.
--Or so Derek thought, until a particular paint and mole dotted artist suddenly popped up in his life and refused to give up on him.

Summary
He’s tall, as tall as Derek is, but where Derek’s shoulders are wide, this man is lean strength. Stiles rests his cittern against the corner, gives a jaunty wave to the room, and begins walking in Derek’s direction.
Derek stops looking and buries his face in his pint glass, willing the other man to go away.
Stiles hesitates near the empty chair. “Mind if I join you?”
“Yes,” Derek growls and wishes he could flash his red alpha eyes at this stranger to make him leave.
Looking from afar was one thing. Up close, Stiles’s eyes look like whiskey in firelight and he smells like citrus and woodsmoke. Derek’s wolf is going crazy inside him and he pushes down his reaction to this man. There’s something else, something other, but there are plenty of people who have residual magic of shifters in their family. It leaves a trace, but is often indistinct.
Stiles grins, pulls out the chair, and sits down. “Great.”

Summary
Derek doesn’t like scary movies, especially featuring clowns. His sisters drag him to the new Batman movie, and Derek is less than thrilled when the Joker is exceptionally terrifying. On his way home from his editor a few days later, Derek runs into actor Stiles Stilinski. Being a werewolf means Derek’s senses are stronger, and he notices immediately that there’s something off about Stiles. Terrified because his irrational fear isn’t so irrational now, Derek runs away from Stiles.
Stiles has just landed the biggest role of his career, portraying the Joker in the newest DC Comics movie. Rumor has it that he’s on track to win an Oscar too. The only thing that would make Stiles happier is to meet his favorite author. In need of a suit for his award ceremony, his agent sends him to Laura Hale, the most in-demand tailor for celebrities. Stiles came with a whiteboard, and blue dry erase marker, flapping it over his head like a white flag on a battlefield.
"Come on," he coaxed. "You must want to say something. You've never gone this long without telling me to shut up." He waggled the marker in Derek's face. Stinging alcohol and pungent polymer singed Derek's nose hairs.
His fingers itched to pick up the board, and not because he wanted to tell Stiles to be quiet. He enjoyed the babble that filled the apartment every few days, the hearty food, Stiles' particular, reassuring smell: maple sugar buzz, spicy-sweet deodorant, milk-sour frustration, floral shampoo, and spring grass at night. It soaked into Derek's couch, his bed, his skull.
If any of it were real, Derek would take the board and write: thank you.

Stiles is hallucinating.He cracks open an eye. He's floating… no, not floating, because he's bouncing up and down, horizontal-like, the skyline above the trees growing closer, then more distant. There are hands holding him upright, cradling his upper back, his thighs. There's a face hovering above him, with a shock of black hair, and although Stiles is having problems focusing, the person looks good. Insanely, inhumanly good.
Stiles never wanted to be the recipient of the basilisk's venom, but now that it's coursing through him, he admits it's some top quality shit. Absolutely fucking primo.
"Wow." He breathes, trying to enjoy the moment.
"Stiles?" The person holding him bends closer, their eyes flashing a bright blue.
Stiles shakes his head. He knows those eyes, remembers their unnatural, electric color. "Dude?"
The godlike specimen huffs. "It's Derek. And don't call me 'Dude'."
Stiles is pretty sure his mouth is hanging open unattractively. "We really need to talk," he manages before finally passing out.

Summary
Stiles' creepy werewolf stalker becomes his hot werewolf boyfriend because that's the only way for Stiles to finally use magic.
That's how he gets a boyfriend while a) being straight, b) never having had a girlfriend, but that's okay because c) the relationship is not real, even if Derek thinks it is.
It'll be fine. Derek thinks a lot of things, including shit like them being mates. (Stiles mostly ignores that bit.)
He just wants to know what he is, his essence, and use magic.
