From the author, IvanW: This began as a one shot based on a tumblr post but I had so much interest in continuing, I decided to go for it in 2022
Only the first chapter is from 2020, when originally posted.
For the purposes of this fic, while the part where Spock accused Jim of cheating did happen, the distress signal from Vulcan did not, and there is no destruction of Vulcan or murder of Spock's mother here.
Jim arrives on the Enterprise for the first time as a crew member and clasps Spock in greeting, without thinking, and Spock responds that they are bonded.

Premature, fragile, and eerily silent, James fights to survive. While Winona distances herself—physically and emotionally—choosing instead to focus on her older son.

Chris lay still for a moment, listening.
One snore was deep, rumbling, and familiar—the kind that vibrated slightly through the mattress. Phil. Predictable. Reliable. Sounded like a warp core settling in for the night.
The other—
Chris turned his head slightly and blinked.
Leonard McCoy was sprawled on his side next to Phil, one arm flung over a pillow, mouth slightly open, producing a sharp, offended little snort every few seconds—like sleep itself had personally insulted him and he was protesting.
Chris bit his lip to keep from laughing.
“Well I’ll be damned,” he murmured under his breath. “He does sleep.”
Phil snored louder, as if in agreement.
Chris shifted his gaze downward.
Jim was awake.
(Leonard and Jim are kids and survivors of Tarsus IV… Chris and Phil took in two very traumatized, feral boys… what the hell could possibly go wrong?? Oh… right… Klingons… and emotions.)

As Jim takes his baby steps towards the sky, Chris finds he wants to stay near him just to watch him soar higher and higher.
However, as the years pass, it becomes clear that someone behind the scenes is patiently working towards a terrible goal that could bring war down upon the whole galaxy. Can a shrewd captain and a cadet with an attitude stop the danger, or will they lose everything before Jim could even reach the stars?

As it turns out, Bike Messenger Asshole is pretty young, a little scrawny, and looks as tired as Leonard feels, but with bright blue eyes and a halo of blond hair on his helmetless head, catching the morning sun.
Leonard is a (mostly) well-behaved cyclist who commutes to his job at San Francisco General Hospital. Jim’s a hotshot bike messenger. Modern-ish AU.

I didn't have time to do it in October (And I don't exactly have time now lol but whatever we ball), but I started writing these then, so some of them are a little Halloween themed. Oops, bear with me.This was a poor choice on my part, as it turns out I'm not that great at writing fluff for months straight; I miss the comfortable warmth of my native H/C waters. Some of these are good, others are cliche. Oh well.
