Summary
This is an AU version of chapter 10 of my fic "Fill your mouth with berries by the full light of the moon" - specifically an AU where Madara and Tobirama's relationship was slightly less loving and more influenced by their very different positions of power.
For context, in this verse of the fic, Madara is less interested in being a fair and equal spouse. He's not cruel exactly, just much more comfortable with the role of superior and with using his husband (while still ensuring Tobirama does not have a bad time of it). Tobirama doesn't resent this, because he is culturally acclimated to the idea that the hunting husband/clan head has significantly more rights in the marriage than the hunted husband/ subordinate clan member.

he'd seen the Hunted taken down, draped decorously in their new husband's cape, marked with their crest.
But afterwards had always been a period of... isolation, of some sort. He remembered one of his older uncles, having hunted - was it a Hatake woman? He remembered a pale braid, dangling over his uncle's broad shoulder.

But after those initial tears in the forest, the frenzied desperation, Tobirama had instead settled into a quiet almost ghost-like presence. His water-cool chakra, always so present and obvious in the battlefield, curled quiet and… almost stagnant, when he came to visit him, bringing him food.
He wore what Madara gave him, rich gold and red silks, Uchiha colours in his hair and on his ears, and looked nothing more than a doll.
He was obedient in action, and did nothing, said nothing, that would…
Would jeopardize the peace.
He didn't even ask for his anija.
"Of all things," Izuna said, after a week, "I would have expected him to ask to see Hashirama."
"Perhaps he's just that icy," Madara said, shrugging.
But was he?
He might be the Senju demon but…
Was he not Izuna's rival? Did he, of all the Uchiha, study this man, his movements, his thoughts, his strategies

As Tobirama reunited with his brothers, a porcelain hand slowly reached out from the tangle of roots deep in the dark parts of the Forest. Ever so slowly, a boy with wild black hair pulled himself up to sit on them. The boy wasn’t much older than Tobirama and was dressed from his toes to his jaw in dark robes, the only skin showing was his face and hands. Strings of feathers, animal teeth, and small bones draped around his neck and around his waist; a single serrated blade rested in a sheath on his hip.
