Summary
When the king of Philos remarried, unlikely bonds were formed. Bringing a woman and her son into the castle was no easy task. Many viewed the union as a stain upon the royal family tree; a branch that shouldn't exist - he shouldn't exist. The blue eyed prince didn't share that opinion, giving Sylus a powerful ally as he found his place in the castle, and Xavier gained a fiercely loyal companion.

There’s a place at the base of my skull where all semblance of caution dissolves when I see him look at me like that. Without thinking — without the careful politeness that came with any royal engagement — I launched myself at him. Sylus steadied me with a single hand, the other coming up to rest against my back as if to anchor me to something solid and bravely ordinary. I hugged him hard, breath warm against his neck, and pressed a quick, sweet kiss to his mouth. I giggled — ridiculously, irrepressibly — because the world felt ridiculous and bright.
