Summary
The Ancients' genes didn't just confer the power to activate their technology. For ten percent of Earth's population, like John Sheppard, the ATA gene also gave them Gifts: special abilities that made them admired, envied, and feared.
Sheppard was a Charmer, one of the feared ones, whose particular Gift let him create faith whenever he needed to be trusted or believed. But Sheppard didn't trust himself not to destroy what he loved most. And somewhere along the line, amid the terror and chaos of the Expedition's first year in the Pegasus Galaxy, what Sheppard loved most had become Rodney McKay.
McKay didn't trust anyone. As soon as you started trusting people, you started counting on them, depending on them, and that was when you became vulnerable. And vulnerable things didn't survive. So just when, exactly, had he started trusting Sheppard?
And what was going to happen, now that he did?

Aegis by Leah (Taste_is_Sweet), springwoof
An AU in which some ten percent of Earth's population have Gifts. John is a Charmer, a Gift particularly reviled and feared, because people believe that Charmers can make them do things they never would otherwise, to the point of suicide. So John's black mark is that he used his Gift to convince his CO to go back and fetch his buddies in Afghanistan. Now no one trusts him.
Except Rodney, who is Mundane and brisk and continually reminds any fool that Charm only works when someone is already inclined in that direction and not suspicious.
John goes further, though, and never touches anyone. He covers all his skin with clothing and wears gloves, and no one's sure why he does that. He's isolated and strange....
The story is episodic, and it's very interesting to see how everyone's Gift is incorporated into each plot. (Elizabeth is a Receiving Empath; Zelenka is a Techno Empath; Beckett can 'see' DNA.) Rodney and John slowly become closer, but John stays back out of what appears to be an overwhelming fear.
Meanwhile, Rodney's gene therapy activates not only his ATA gene, but also a latent Gift for Shielding himself and others, a Gift which proves very necessary but also nearly deadly, if he expends too much energy and goes into hypoglycemic shock.
