This is not a happy story. In fact, I almost prefer to think of this and reignite as separate universes, because I think the Sherlock here is irredeemable. I love how the author found the edges of their relationship. There’s another fic where Sherlock asks, “is there anything you wouldn’t do for me?” and John has a think and realizes there isn’t. In general, I tend to feel that these two are so perfect for each other that, provided they’re both in character, there really isn’t anything John wouldn’t do for Sherlock. But this fic finds that thing, while still keeping them both so Sherlock and John. It’s brilliant, almost genius.
