What Doesn't Kill You, Will Make You Stronger

Summary:

After Jacob took the rotor arm, all the counselors have to spend the night at the camp against Chris Hacketts need for them to leave. The night doesn't go to plan and two counselors with a rocky history; Dylan Lenivy and Y/N, try to find a way to communicate with the outside world. They decided the Radio Shack was their only option, who knew it would turn into the Shack of Confessions.

Work Text:

“Are you sure this will work?” y/n asked in the dark, only the sight of the full moon glistening his and Dylan's path through the cabins to the Radio Shack. “No, not really- but it's worth a try.” Dylan didn’t even try to mask his uncertainty as they rushed into the Radio Shack.

It was quiet… too quiet

Dylan fumbled around with the communication devices trying to connect to an outer source to get help. “Hey, Hi, uhh-” Dylan started to talk through the mic to this machine in hopes anyone would pick up on their communication signal. Though Dylan’s voice didn’t seem that alarmed or in urgency to get help.

“There is a swarm of bears here and they’re trying to eat us, uh send help.” He tried his best the poor guy, he must be numb to all of this by now. y/n stared at him in disbelief, pacing around the shack with his hands pulling his fringe back from his forehead. “Herd of bears, Dylan.” y/n tried to correct him only to be met with an unintentional response. “Uhhh… yeah- I’ve heard of bears…”

y/n was ready to spiral and yell at him, over the past few months they haven’t been the best of friends. Dylan would always find a way to make y/n the butt of a joke, or make fun of him which y/n did not find funny in the slightest. Though when they’re alone, the jokes seem to lessen. He wondered why Dylan was so different around other people. “Are you serious-”

THUMP!

y/n paused, a large thud could be heard from the roof of the radio shack, every creek of the wooden floorboards, every step on the roof, echoed throughout the shack. It made a chill run down y/n’s spine. “What was that-” All of a sudden an arm pierced through the roof, missing both y/n and Dylan.

“Shit one of them is on the roof!” Dylan said as he avoids the beast's arm staying near the communication system. “What are we supposed to do! We need to get it away!” y/n yelled back as they both tried to think of what to do. But Dylan being the tech whizz, had a brilliant idea.

His eyes shot up to the corner of the shack next to the equipment, seeing a few wires that go into the roof, dangling. “I need to get these wires y/n! Try and stall for me with the gun!” Dylan in his panicked state, used the adrenaline of the situation to hoist himself up on a chair to try and reach for the wires.

“O-okay!” y/n shot at the roof, trying to scare the beast away though it was a bust. As y/n tried to distract the beast, Dylan got pulled up and down to the roof by his arm, the beast trying to pull him out from their safe space. “Shit shit shit!” y/n panicked as Dylan yells out in pain “Get- the- wires and plug them in!” Dylan commanded and y/n followed suit, connecting the wires to the equipment then all of a sudden a large screech came from the speakers outside the building.

The beast let go of Dylan in agony, running off into the distance away from the sound. Y/n flinched at the noise, covering his ears until it faded away. “Oh shit that actually worked…” Y/n spoke in disbelief before he noticed the Condition Dylan was in on the floor. “Oh my god! Dylan, your arm!”

His arm was torn and bleeding out, remnants of his arm still fully attached as Dylan looked at y/n in shock. “It's… fine- just- cut it off…” Dylan spoke in bewilderment from the shock, clearly not thinking straight. There was a back and forth between the two of them as y/n refused to at first until he was convinced to take the chainsaw to Dylan's arm and saw it off.

“Holy shit I just did that…” y/n spoke, panicking as his fingers trembled, applying pressure to the severed arm. “See? Not so bad now was it? What doesn’t kill you, will make you stronger.” Dylan spoke still in shock before he looked down at half his arm. “Oh shit its gone, why- why’d you do that-”

“I- I don’t know! You told me to do that!” y/n responds as he takes his hand off the arm. “Apply pressure to it and stay still whilst I find something to cover it.” Fortunately for y/n, he managed to find a survival first aid kit nearby before returning to Dylan.

“I found something that should help…” Y/n crouched down at Dylan who was now sitting with his back pressed up against the cold hard wall.

“Oh good… you’re back.” Dylan smiled weakly at y/n before y/n started to wrap the arm up to cover the opening.

“You’re truly amazing y/n…” Dylan mumbled still in shock as the other gently but firmly wrapped his injury.

“Really? I’m not the one that survived almost getting mauled to death.” y/n retorts, his gaze focusing on the injury.

“Yeah- but… you saved me” Dylan argues quietly in return, trying to be right in this situation.

“If it wasn’t for your idea, I wouldn't have been able to-” Before y/n could finish what he had to say, Dylan pulled him in with his one hand, it was weak and slow, but the embrace felt so intimate, no matter how small it may be. “Thank you… y/n”

Y/n flinched, hesitantly wrapping his own arms around Dylan's neck carefully. “Whats up with you… after everything that's happened all of a sudden you’re being so nice to me?” y/n asked as he coyishly looked to the wooden floorboards to distract himself.

“Have I not always been nice to you y/n?... I’m sorry I didn’t know- sometimes It’s hard to speak to attractive guys or even be around them-” He spoke weakly, still finding the strength to inadvertently flirt with y/n.

“You what?” y/n finally looked up at Dylan's eyes, slowly creating a gap in their intimate space only for them. “You heard me…” He grinned in his pale injured condition, trying to be strong in this moment as he lowered his arm that was wrapped around y/n.

“So all the times you’ve tormented me and made fun of me was just…” y/n tried to find the words to say, taken aback by the sudden confession from the guy who just survived a near death experience.

“Was just me trying to flirt and be nice to you? Yeah… well it backfired.” Dylan laughed defeatedly as he rested his head back against the wall, seemingly recounting his regrets over his time at the camp.

“I know this is selfish… but could you let me do one thing?” Dylan asked as if this would be the last chance he’d ever get with y/n, as if he’s just admitting his loss.

“Uhh, yeah sure-” Y/n was cut off after he agreed, Dylan's lips embracing that of his own, it felt desperate. It was electrifying as y/n eased into it, parting his lips to fully embrace Dylan's cold, eager lips. Dylan gripped onto the fabric of y/n’s clothing with his only hand, gripping as if this would be the last chance he’d ever get to kiss the soft warm lips of a guy he’s been trying to get along with for so long.

It didn’t take long, but it was enough to satisfy Dylan. “Thank you… I didn’t think I’d get the chance to-”

“Don’t say that! We’re getting out of this alive okay?” Y/n stood up with newfound determination, another reason to keep going.

“You even said it yourself, what doesn’t kill you, will make you stronger.” He grinned down at Dylan. Dylan looked up at y/n like he was the only light in this world and he was a moth drawn to it. He looked so angelic… or was it just the shock? Who knows.

“Do you need a hand?” Y/n offered his hand to help Dylan up, he took it generously with a small smile on his face which was gaining its colour that was lost before. “Well duh! I lost mine after all.” Dylan jokes as he gains his footing, commenting on his lost arm as he waves half an arm around. Y/n couldn’t help but snicker at his joke.

“C’mon let's not keep the others waiting outside.” y/n states assertively, taking Dylan by his only hand and guiding him towards the rest of the counselors outside the sleeping cabins.

“I’m so lucky to have you.” Dylan muttered infatuated by y/n as he allowed himself to be pulled along for a very long rest of the night.
