Work Text:

All around me was sweltering hot, unbearably so. The scent of iron and and the subtle undertones of flowers wafted in the air, as I stared at the corpse of my friend in agony.

I had done that. That's my fault. Scar is dead.

I dropped to my knees at his side, eyes stinging from the chalky sand kicked up and settling around me. It was such an painful sight.

Crimson petals bloomed from his open wounds, blood trickling slowly from his ever-evident smile, painting his lips red. His lashes rested slowly on his scarred face; If you could ignore that bloody messes smeared, he looked like he was just... asleep.

No matter how hard I wanted to believe that, that soon he'd be awoken, and greet me cheerfully, or pull me into his tight embrace, I knew the truth well. I'd never get to feel his strong arms around me after a victory, or his warm laugh after a slip up. All of those little joys I had with him? Over. The good times with Scar are done now.

I choked back a sob, tears streaming down my face, as I got up, reluctantly pulling myself away from Scar's side. The watchers are probably waiting for me.

Those bastards.

They put me in this predicament. Maybe if I hadn't met them in Evo... Maybe things wouldn't be this way. Maybe I'd be free of their chains, and I'd be able to love once again...

But no.

It's far too late now.

I dragged myself to the edge of the mountain, it stretched out into a cliff, dust caking my blood stained boots. I inched closer and closer til the tips of my shoes lined up with the jagged edge. My wings locked up, yet I felt freer. Freer with hope. Hope that I'll see Scar again, one day.

In another universe.

In a next life.

It doesn't matter. I'll wait an eternity to see him again.

I raised my gazed tiredly to stare at the setting sun for that last time. Its golden glow sunk under the horizon til a sliver of light was left, stars dusting the sky in twilight speckles.

My time has come. The watchers must be getting impatient by now.

I caught a glimpse of Scar for the last time, laying in the middle of the cacti circle peacefully. In another life, in a other universe.

Yeah, maybe.

I stepped off without another word, the orange and brown hues of the Monopoly Mountain blurring as I descended, falling down, down, down...
