Work Text:
The night before the finals, Luka heard a knock on their hotel door. “Luka?” Bidoof’s voice drifted through the wall. “I brought drinks.”
Luka opened the door before they finished their sentence, inviting them in. “How are you?” They asked, taking a drag of the cigarette they were smoking out on the balcony. Bidoof grabbed one of the drinks and followed them out.
“Nervous,” Bidoof said, leaning their hands on the balcony railing and looking out.
Luka nodded. “Same,” they said. “It’s crazy that it’s come to this.”
“I’m glad it’s you,” Bidoof said, taking a sip. “You deserve this.”
“So you’ll let me win?”
“Of course not. Only one of us gets to win, and it’s gonna be me.”
“We’ll see about that.” Luka grabbed Bidoof’s drink and took a sip out of it.
Bidoof’s eyes darted away from Luka’s neck as they swallowed, taking a deep breath instead.
“It’s been fun,” Bidoof said, taking their drink back, “Playing with you. No matter what happens tomorrow… we’ll still be us, right?” They ask, looking down at the street below.
“Yeah, man,” Luka rolled their eyes, looking over and tilting Bidoof’s chin up. “Obviously. I love you, Bidoof. That’s not going to change.”
2-1.
Luka couldn’t hear anything except the roar of the crowd and blood rushing through their veins as their legs finally gave out beneath them and they sank down to their knees.
Bidoof was running around, screaming and getting carried around by their teammates, tears running down their face. They were the one to score the winning goal, the last penalty of the shootout.
Luka thought they looked like an angel, the sun beaming behind them. They didn’t even care that their team got second place. Bidoof turned around, spotting Luka, and ran over to them. The photographers followed, their cameras flashing as Bidoof grabbed Luka off the ground and took Luka’s face in their hands, kissing them deeply.
“Luka-” Bidoof said, leaning their head further against the pillowcase in the hotel that night. Luka placed a series of kisses along the skin, running their hands along Bidoof’s side.
“It’s your night,” Luka said, looking up into Bidoof’s eyes, “Enjoy it.”
“But- but I–... I wasn’t th- thinking, Luka,” Bidoof said, “What’s going to happen now? T- to you, I mean?”
Luka shrugged, tugging Bidoof’s neckline down and kissing their collarbone. “I don’t care. I’m happy that you kissed me.”
Bidoof laughed. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” Luka said, “You know how many edits I saw on the ride back?” They kissed Bidoof’s lips. “So, so many. I think we’re going to be okay.”
Bidoof smiled. “Yeah.”
