Chapter Text

nagi pulled his phone out his pocket just as it buzzed again.

one message.

then another.

he glanced down at the message before letting out a quiet sigh.

"..what a hassle,"

typing back meant that he had to think of a reply, probably get another message right after, and think of a reply again.

he clicked open the messages waiting for him.

isagi: nagi open up me and bachira are outside

hurry up we know your in there

nagi reacted ❤️ to your message

he slipped his phone back into his pocket, climbed onto his bike, and pushed off.

this ride home was quicker. he pedaled home a little faster, the cool breeze brushing past him as his phone kept buzzing in his pocket.

".. maybe i should try to get reo's number next." he muttered to himself before freezing.

the thought of reo hit him all at once, and warmth quickly rushed to his face. he quickly shook his head, flustered by the idea he just thought of.

he started pedaling faster and soon enough, he was outside his house. spotting two familiar figures outside his door, he let out a quiet sigh.

the first boy was isagi yoichi, his short dark blue hair slightly messy as always banging on the door. beside him was meguru bachira, impossible to miss with his shaggy black hair tipped in yellow and the carefree grin that never seemed to leave his face.

"is he really not home?" bachira whined, glancing up at the house. "if nagi wont open up his door, we should just climb through his window!"

"you know what? that might actually be our only option." isagi chuckled.

bachira let out a wide grin as isagi crouched down, letting bachira climb onto his shoulders. wobbling a little, isagi managed to make his way toward nagis bedroom window.

just as bachira reached up, he heard a camera snap.

both isagi and bachira turned around at the same time and saw nagi holding up a phone pointed at them.

the three of them stared at eachother in awkward silence.

"...what are you guys doing?" nagi finally asked.

bachira yelped.

isagi lost his balance.

the next second, both of them toppled over onto the ground.

"you got a cat?" bachira shouted, noticing the cat bed nagi was holding. he quickly got up off of isagi on the ground and rushed over to nagi without a second thought.

"ow..." isagi groaned, rubbing the back of his head as he slowly pushed himself off the ground. "bachira, im gonna kill you!" he dusted himself off and made his way to nagi right behind bachira.

"well? where is it?" bachira asked looking around to see if nagi had hidden it somewhere.

nagi just walked past them both like they werent even there, heading straight for the door. he reached into his pocket and pulled out his house keys, the metal clinking softly as he unlocked it.

"bring my bike over too," he said flatly, already half inside.

bachira and isagi exchanged a quick look before teaming up, wheeling the bike over with clumsy coordination. between bachiras overly enthusiastic pushing and isagis trying to keep it from tipping, they managed to get it to the front door and dropping it neatly besides the entrance.

"see? easy!" bachira grinned before dashing inside.

"hey- dont just run in!" isagi called, sighing as he followed right behind him a moment later.

the second they both stood in the living room, they both froze.

on the couch sat a small cat, curled up as if it owned the place.

nagi was still outside picking up the bags from his bike. he noticed bachira and isagi frozen, and before he could ask them for help,

"CAT!!" bachira gasped, sprinting forwards.

"w-wait!" isagi started, but it was already too late.

both of them were immediately on the floor beside the couch, gently crowding the cat with soft coos and gentle hands. they started petting it and cuddling with it like it was the most important thing in the world.

"awwww, whats her name?" bachira asked, stroking the cats head.

nagi paused mid step, slowly taking his shoes off at the entrance. he glanced over, and thought for a moment.

"...reo." he finally muttered.

his voice came out quieter than usual as he looked away, scratching the back of his neck.

bachira blinked. "reo? thats such a human name for a cat!"

isagi, rubbing the cats belly, glanced between nagi and the cat, noticing the faint change in his expression but choosing not to say anything.

without saying anything else, nagi set the cat food near the counter and walked over to the couch.

the cat immediately lifted its head while he approached.

carefully, nagi scooped it up into his arms, holding it up to his chest like it belonged there.

only then did he finally look at the both of them.

"..why are you even here?" he asked.

isagi stood up a little straighter, brushing his hands off. "oh, right. a friend of mine invited me to a party and said i could invite anyone so i asked bachira. and then we also thought about asking you!"

bachira, still crouched down on the floor, nodded enthusiastically. "yeah! we were gonna drag you there either way if you didnt wanna come."

nagi blinked once, expression unreadable.

"...a party," he repeated, like it already sounded like a hassle.
