Chapter Text
The bus rumbled underneath Dennis’s feet while he held his bag close to him. He had to take public transit to work since, much to his misfortune, he doesn’t have a car and Trinity wasn’t at the apartment last night. He knew she was at Victoria’s which he was truly happy about. He just didn’t like the fact he had to start taking the bus again.
Fortunately Victoria rarely stayed at her place so he didn’t have to take the bus often. Still it didn’t mean he liked being on the bus with how janky the buses were. They creaked and rattled but it got the job done so that was enough for him.
He walked into the PTMC with a can of monster along with some fresh new scrubs. He was about to walk to the nurses station when he saw Victoria standing alongside Trinity. It put a smile on his face which made him want to go up to the two but Dana made them separate.
That made him check the clock on the wall which reminded him he barely made it on time so he hurried off to do hand-offs. As he made his way across the ED he passed by the nurses station. Trinity was talking to Princess and Perlah which was nothing new but what he overheard is what intrigued him. He slowed his steps to listen in on her conversation. She was telling the story of how her and Victoria came to be. Now he was very familiar with this, he experienced first hand after all.
He continued walking to check on his new patients but the story lingered on his mind. As far as he knows Trinity hasn’t told anyone the story nor as she officially announced to anyone that her and Victoria were together. As far as Dennis could tell the two were going slow and easy but doing nothing to actually hide their relationship. Which is exactly why there was a secret betting pool.
He hasn’t officially entered in his own bet, it felt like he was cheating considering the fact he was one who pushed the two together. Though if Princess and Perlah were getting official confirmation they would definitely win. Was it right for him to bet a lot of money knowing he would win it all? He played with this thought for a while. He studied all angles of it but it became less about the bet and about more what had happened with the two girls in question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dennis was sitting at the nurses station just doing his charts. He glanced at the time every few minutes and it was almost time to clock out. He knew there had been snow storms forecasted for today but he wasn’t sure if he should get ready to leave now or not.
He looked around for someone who had hopefully been outside in the last few minutes. Luckily he spotted Dana who wasn’t busy at the moment. He rolled his chair closer to her so she could better hear him. “Hey Dana, uh has it snowed recently?”
Dana heard him and looked over at him and was silent as she listened to him. “Yeah kid, I was out there a few minutes ago, the snow is starting to pick up.”
Dennis nodded his head while Dana turned back to do whatever she needed. Dennis decided he should head out a little early so he and Trinity could leave as soon as possible. He clocked out and headed to the locker room to get into his winter clothes. It was mostly just a thick coat that Trinity had got him two months ago paired with an old set of gloves he had.
He grabbed his bag and trekked out to the front of PTMC and waited for Trinity. He only had to wait a couple of minutes before she showed up. When he heard her footsteps in the snow he turned to look but he was greeted with an unusual sight. It was Victoria and Trinity together. He was bewildered, at the moment he couldn’t think of a single day where they didn’t bicker. Trinity always teased the girl and Victoria would bite back. So seeing this was just an odd sight.
He shot Trinity a look and all she did was wave him off. He knew throughout all of the teasing there was something else she felt for Javadi. He knew something was up with her even if she hadn't said anything to him just yet. What further proved his point is that she just waved him off. He has had his speculations for a while but this confirmed them.
He watched as Trinity walked past him allowing him to join her. They were silent which was unusual but Dennis was thankful for this. It gave him more time to think about the situation. Just as he was about to fully connect the dots he noticed Trinity’s gaze.
She was looking back at Victoria like she was the sun. Even at night Victoria lit her day, it was just something anyone could realize. Although it seemed the only people who didn’t get it were the two girls themselves. He watched as Trinity proceeded to hand her jacket over like it didn’t matter. Dennis knew the other jacket that she was wearing was barely keeping her warm.
He filed this moment into the back of his head. If Trinity ever tried to deny what she felt this moment would be undeniable proof. He kept it to himself for now, he wasn’t sure if Trinity realized what she felt for the girl. The same went for Victoria; she was acting differently certainly not in a bad way but he was unsure if she felt anything romantic towards Trinity. He tried to not think too hard about it as he followed Trinity all the way to her car.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He was sucked back into reality when a trauma was called in. He was halfway across the ED so he wasn’t able to hop on it. For now he just tried caring for whatever patients came his way. He took care of a burn patient, suspected heart attack, and a kid who needed to be stitched up. The day was going by smoothly so far, he was freeing up beds without any mistakes being made.
He ran around the ED helping wherever he could since he didn’t have that many patients. As he ran around he spotted Trinity and he would’ve gone up to her but she had this sparkle in her eyes. He has grown quite familiar with that look over the past few months so he knew she was busy.
He was quite proud of himself but also exhausted so he took a quick break. He ate a ham and cheese sandwich while scrolling through his phone. Nothing really important popped up but his thoughts from earlier resurfaced. He clicked on his and Trinity’s messages which were mostly just stupid stuff. Silly arguments about dinner and random jokes.
He scrolled back far enough to the time he was trying to convince Trinity to see what he saw. Back when Vic and Trinity were oblivious.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The tension between the three broke as soon as they all piled into the car. Dennis decided to talk first about whatever new movie was coming out or something stupid that he had done with Trinity the other day. Trinity replied just like she usually did and it settled into this rhythm. Every so often Dennis would glance into the rear view mirror to see if Victoria felt left out or not. It honestly seemed like she was enjoying herself.
As he started to relax he realized no one had gone to put on aux. “Hey I call dibs on aux.” He hummed to himself as he reached for the radio so he could Bluetooth his phone to it but his hand was quickly swatted away.
Trinity glanced at him and it was clear that she tried looking upset but she really wasn’t. “You always get aux, no one wants to listen to Elliot Smith 24/7.”
He could hear the hint of amusement in her voice so he decided to shoot back. “Well lucky for you I was about to put on Bruce Springsteen so deal with it.”
He grinned as he reached for the aux against thinking he had won. It wasn’t like anyone else was going for it yet his hand was swatted away again. This went on a couple of more times before she gave it to Victoria. This surprised him even more, he recalled the first few times he rode with Trinity and he didn’t even get a say in the music played.
Whether Trinity realized it or not she was doing a lot for this girl more than she realized. When Victoria accepted, although it had been reluctantly, she put on one of her playlists. When Olivia Rodrigo started playing he was surprised, not really by the artist of choice he figured she would be into this music, he was just surprised since he hadn’t listened to any pop music in recent years. Despite himself he started to hum the lyrics and Trinity joined him.
The rest of the ride home turned into this karaoke session which made them all feel good. They needed this, a moment away from work. By the time they got to the apartment they were all laughing together. Making jokes with each other as if they were life long friends.
This was all Dennis could’ve wished for when he first moved from Nebraska. He was glad he was blessed with the friends he has now. Dennis settled himself in the kitchen looking for food for them to eat or perhaps cook. He wasn’t quite sure, maybe they should just order out? He shook his head trying to decide.
By the time he decided they should just order out he realized Trinity took Victoria on a tour around the apartment. He really could laugh at it; he couldn't believe she gave Victoria a tour. He decided he shouldn’t ruin the vibe the two had going on. For now he would just keep an eye on them so they wouldn’t get into any trouble.
When he noticed that Victoria was going to sleep on the couch he was going to speak up. He remembered the few times he had slept there and he had a sore back for a week. It was fine to sit on but definitely not to sleep on. As he was about to voice his concerns Trinity did it for him.
He watched carefully as they both decided it was okay for Victoria to room with Trinity. He stared at Trinity so hard it must’ve felt like lasers. She really needed to get this fact of liking Victoria into her head before something else happened.
He stopped staring when he was about to sit on the couch he watched the two again. The way they both crashed into each other and the looks they gave each other. It was almost comical. I mean who could really have this many moments in one night. It really made him feel like he was going crazy. He has only seen this stuff in movies. This wasn’t a movie though it was real life and he had front row seats to whatever was happening.
He went and sat on the couch while Trinity threatened him. She for sure was getting the message he was trying to send to her. He was only trying to help but she seemed adamant on denying her feelings. He figured this must be a new realization of hers. Still he rather have her realize her feelings for Victoria sooner or later. If not, something stupid is definitely going to happen.
He ordered takeout for the three of them as Trinity put on some random comedy show they had been watching the previous night. He sighed dramatically and waved at Trinity to turn it off. He was just messing around besides he actually enjoyed the show. They spent the rest of their time eating while chatting with each other.
They all turned in for the night. Dennis stayed up for a bit thinking of how to talk to Trinity about this whole thing. The more he thought, the sleepier he got. By the time he started to actually drift off he caught the tail end of Trinity’s and Victoria’s conversation. For once he was thankful for the thin apartment walls.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He only took a short fifteen minute break before returning to the floor. He was glad today was slow, most days he didn’t have time for a break let alone a fifteen minute one. He munched on a protein bar as he walked around. Conversing with Donnie or Samira.
He found himself at the nurses station to squeeze in some charting. He was getting a lot done today; he felt like he was on a roll. He was typing up charts while keeping an eye out for incoming traumas and other patients. While he did that he overheard Trinity and Victoria.
He looked over his shoulder and saw the two talking. He was really glad his efforts proved fruitful if not these two certainly would’ve been playing the long game with each other. He couldn’t bear to ever witness anything like that or consistently witness it. He was glad those days were over.
He looked over his shoulder and turned to snap a quick photo of the two while snickering. He was the one always taking photos of the two of them and most of the photos residing on the apartment walls were on account of him.
After that he quickly turns back to his work so he wouldn’t get caught. He would send the photo now but he would rather not be sought out by Trinity in the middle of the work day. He would send it later when they were all at home together. He really couldn’t wait till the end of shift to hang out with the two. It didn’t even feel like third-wheeling to him since they all became a trio before there was ever an official couple.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That morning when Dennis woke up felt like any other day. It was his and Trinity's day off so they would either lounge around or go out. On account of Victoria being over he was guessing they would go out. He took his time getting ready for the day with a funk playlist playing in his air pods. He grooved and wiggled around his room which unfortunately got interrupted by a bout of laughter coming from the kitchen.
He took his air pods out confused. Trinity wasn’t one to truly be in her groove till around evening which it wasn’t close as right now it was just about ten. He slowly walked out of his room, stopping at the end of the hallway. He peeked around the corner and he felt like his eyes could bulge out of their socket.
Some stupidly catchy song was playing, the curtains were open, and the two were making breakfast together. It felt like the beginning of some stupidly sappy movie that everyone loves. He decided to let the two have the moment for a little while longer.
Eventually after a while Trinity came banging on Dennis’s door urging him to get up so they could all go out. He waited a few moments before eventually leaving his room to make his way to the kitchen. He grabbed whatever was left over from breakfast, which happened to be eggs and ate quickly. He threw on a jacket along with an old worn out pair of Adidas before they all headed out the door.
They just shopped around town exploring places they haven’t been to before. It was all good fun, just a casual day off between Dennis and Trinity. But they were a trio now and Dennis couldn’t help but think the day felt more alive with Victoria around.
He really hoped that Trinity didn’t mess up, he was looking for a billion more days just like this one. He felt a little selfish thinking that but does it harm anyone? It really didn’t, he wasn’t particularly friends with anyone besides Trinity. So he came to the conclusion he shouldn’t feel selfish for wanting friends.
Throughout the day he felt like he was on cloud nine with all the fun the three of them were having. They all connected so well with each other leaving for quite the eventful day. Though there were times where Trinity and Victoria naturally drifted towards each other. Like they didn’t even know they were orbiting each other’s mere existence.
He thought it was silly that they didn’t notice but it was cute nonetheless. He snapped some photos of them hoping they would get together one day. Earlier in the morning he had devised a plan of talking to Trinity about this whole thing. He felt the photos would prove his point undeniable. Or well he hoped they would.
On the way back to Trinity's car some random guy was dancing to “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie and he couldn’t help himself. He jumped in to dance along with the man. Trinity recorded as he beckoned the other two to join. He was doing the robot among other dances considered embarrassing or outdated. It didn’t matter he was laughing which was all he cared about.
Two weeks passed since that day with Victoria over about nine out of those fourteen days. He of course didn’t mind, he loved having her around, she was fun to talk to, she really got along with both of them. Today was one of the few days that the girl was busy so he decided it was time to put his plan into action.
He wanted to ask Trinity about Victoria, mostly on how she felt about her. He’s noticed that she is far kinder and welcoming to Victoria than anyone else. There has to be a reason and he had a sneaking suspicion it was because she liked her. He needed conformation though or at least a hint. Trinity was known to be prickly so it could prove difficult.
So he waited till afternoon hoping that would be the right time to catch her. Luckily for him she was in a pretty good mood just watching TV. He came out of his room, slowly walking over to the couch. Trinity gave him a look which meant she probably knew he was nervous.
He stood there for a moment before clearing his throat to speak. “I just wanted to ask what’s up with you and Victoria.”
She glared at him which let Dennis know he was poking the bear. He was about to just tell her to forget about it when she spoke up. “Why do you wanna know, weather boy?”
“What? I’m not a weather boy that doesn’t make sense, look that doesn’t matter, I just think that you and Victoria are peculiar that’s all.” Dennis looked around, he could guess he was sweating. If this wasn’t such a serious conversation he would guess that Trinity would laugh.
She was in fact not laughing and looking very seriously at him like he didn’t know what he was talking about. “Alright what does that mean?”
“I’m just saying you act differently around Victoria like you like her or something.”
Dennis didn’t know if his words were the right choice. Trinity remained silent, so unnerving silent he didn’t know if she was thinking or plotting to kill him. He was trying to scrounge out an apology that was genuine so he wouldn’t get kicked out of the apartment.
“Okay so what if I find Victoria pretty, it doesn’t matter Huck it won’t ever matter.” She plays with the TV remote and taps her foot on the floor. It seriously seems like she’s done a lot of thinking on the matter.
“Trin, it does matter you never know she might like you back.” Dennis had a sheepish smile on his face as he patted her shoulder. He wasn’t totally sure if Victoria liked her back but they both acted odd around each other. They both got all smiley around each other and consistently sought each other out. He felt he should bring out his photos on his phone so he did.
He unlocked his phone, opened up the photos app, found one where they’re leaning against each other while window shopping, he then slid his phone over to a sad looking Trinity. Well she didn’t totally look sad, it was more of a beaten down type of look. Still nonetheless she was not in a good mood after his question. He was hoping that seeing this would knock some sense into her brain.
“I’m not saying that this officially confirms that she likes you but come on if this wasn’t you guys wouldn’t you say this was a couple.” He batted his eyes at her hoping for a laugh maybe a quip. He got a small smile at her which he felt relieved at. His shoulders dropped when he didn’t even know he had been tensed up.
“Alright farm boy, I guess you’re right but how about keep a look out for me.” That small smile she had grew into a full one which really made his day. He was full blown scared earlier, now it felt like he won. She patted his back before heading to her own room.
The following two months after this had gone smoothly. Dennis would try to find signs that Victoria liked her but he also looked at the signs Trinity gave Victoria. Some may call this third wheeling but he didn’t see it like that. The fact that they were all very good friends came first to the girls. They both very clearly tried to not let their emotions get in the way.
By February it obviously became tougher for the girls. Which to him made it feel like they’ve both liked each other longer than they both know. As far as Trinity goes he figures she started liking Victoria around a month before she stayed at their place. For Victoria he wasn’t sure, he hadn't talked to her about this thing, he couldn’t. So he figured based on her behavior, it has been longer than Trinity has.
He’s been watching them tiptoe around each other but mid February was the breaking point. The day started normal just like any other day off for the three would. They were all clustered on the couch together while they watched whatever movie had been chosen by Victoria. Dennis didn’t mind her movie taste and was about to input his own commentary when he saw Trinity looking out the window.
He saw her perk up, that was the tell tale sign that she had an idea brewing. Usually he would complain and say something but he figured it was probably a good one so he held back for now.
“Now as you two know and as my faithful companions, there’s an ice skating rink nearby and I think the three of us shall go.” Trinity did her whole very confident and arrogant act but as soon as Victoria said yes it deflated. Yet another reason to the very long list he had made on why they should just go out already. Though he was sure Victoria was just very oblivious.
That didn’t matter now since Trinity mentioned ice skating which was a terrible idea. He has never seen any of them be athletic ever. Okay sure Trinity did gymnastics but ice skating compared with that are two very different things. He reluctantly agreed, figuring it would be fun if they were all bad at it.
When Trinity told them they were leaving immediately they all quickly got up. It was an organized mess of moving around and grabbing whatever you needed. Dennis was just tugging on a beanie with a nice coat when he saw Trinity toss a jacket to Victoria. It was nothing, yet it meant everything. The look in both of their eyes. He couldn’t believe these two didn’t notice the looks they consistently gave each other.
They all got out of the apartment fairly quickly so they could be back before the sun was down. He wasn’t sure how long the three of them would last but it didn’t take long to go to and from the ice rink. Once they arrived they all got some skates they found lying around. No one was really skating here or had skated there recently.
The three of them sat in a line putting on skates. For a moment Dennis faltered, these days he usually thought about work, grocery shopping, or the two next to him. Now he was grateful he could even think of these things. He was homeless and now he had a home in two different forms. He no longer felt the cold as he tugged on his skates. His heart felt warm as he listened to Trinity admit she’s never skated. It got a genuine laugh out of him and Vic as they agreed.
Trinity even taught him how to balance along with the actual skating part. This was something that used to be in his dreams so many years ago. If anyone asked what a heart was he would of course explain it like any other doctor would. If anyone outside of work asked he would say this. He felt so full as he skated around the rink waiting for the others. He stopped for a moment to see Victoria’s progress and it was a total disaster.
It was clear now more than ever that they were both madly in love. With the way Trinity practically had hearts in her eyes he would say they were dating but they weren’t. Meanwhile Victoria over there only skated better if Trinity wasn’t looking but if Trinity was she was a stumbling mess. It was endearing but oh so tiring. If only they could get together already.
He watched as he they crashed into each other which made him jump. Just as he was about to skate over there Victoria was getting up. He was concerned about their collision but he was just grateful no one had any serious injuries. He skated over bit by bit to check on them though what he saw made him stop in his tracks.
Victoria was offering a hand to Trinity to help pick the girl up. Trinity genuinely looked star struck as if she was staring at something heavenly. He would say she got a concussion, that of course definitely wasn’t the case. The reason for the starry eyed look was most definitely the girl that was trying to help her. Unfortunately for Victoria her expression wasn’t any better. From where he was standing he could swear that she was blushing which was definitely not from the cold.
He let the two work it out on their own, he hoped this would push them closer together. Then as he thought they would all continue skating Victoria sprinted off. He wondered what was up with her, she was never one to leave abruptly.
He didn’t have much time to finish his thought as Trinity frantically appeared in front of him. “Huckleberry, I really like Victoria.. or whatever but you gotta help me out.”
She was shaking him by the shoulders so much to the point he felt they could topple over. He placed his own hands on her shoulders to hold the two of them still. He has been waiting for this moment for two whole months, the very idea of it all made pride swell in his chest. He was proud..? No more so grateful that Trinity could come to him for this matter he truly wanted to help.
“Well you already spend so much time with her, why not get her something nice and ask her out. Like in all those rom-coms she likes.” Dennis nods his head as he speaks hoping that these words will latch onto Trinity. In his eyes from being a bystander to the mess that was Trinity and Victoria he saw that something simple would be just fine. They clearly loved each other more than he thinks either of them know. This doesn’t even include Victoria’s rambles about how she wishes her love life was like those cheesy rom-coms.
“Okay Huck but you have to help me plan this thing out. I want to try and do it next week, got it?" He nodded his head while opening his mouth to speak but it was clear she was already far away from this moment. Deep in thought about something he wouldn’t know about till later.
Within the next couple of minutes Victoria returned with hot chocolate, looking just like Trinity did. He eyed her curiously since by the look on her face and with her demeanor he was sure she realized something while on her little walk.
They both had decided that Friday of next week is when they decided Trinity would make a move. He didn’t exactly know what she got Victoria but he knew the basic layout of the plan. He would make an excuse to leave, Trinity would present her gift, then hopefully they get together.
He talked himself through the plan everyday that week, even if he was occupied with that he noticed something odd. Ever since Victoria had run off at the ice rink she has been keeping an eye on him. She was even asking him questions, trying to bait him into something. Maybe she knew about Trinity, the very thought made his stomach hurt. He was not very good with conflict between two friends, it always stressed him out to the point he got a stomach ache.
On Thursday Victoria finally cornered him. He knew he couldn’t avoid her any longer. So he relented, he had to say something. “Trinity, she isn’t a… very forward person if you see something just take it and roll with it.”
His stomach churned so that was his cue to run off. He wanted to say more, maybe even allude to more. He knew he couldn't, he didn't want to hurt Trinity or Victoria in any way. This was the best he could do to help propel Victoria into maybe taking action. Or at least take his words seriously. He didn’t know if she noticed but Trinity had never once directly asked Victoria to hang out; it was always beating around the bush with her. If you thought she had an undertone or meant something there was a good chance you were right. He wanted Victoria to know that.
By the next day he was all anxious. His bones ached with every movement accompanied by his heart beat being all over the place. He wasn’t even the one to do much of anything he was there for moral support. He took that role seriously, he lived with Trinity after all and if this didn’t go well he would be there for her. Overall he was quite excited for the whole thing, he wanted this to go well. He honestly thought the two would look good together.
He spent the first half of the day going over the plan with Trinity along with helping her with whatever she wanted help with. When the clock hit six a knock rang on the door. Victoria was quite the punctual person even more so now than ever it seems like.
He let her in the apartment and he made his way into the kitchen. Sifting through what they could eat or possibly make. He was trying his best to appear normal as can be despite knowing what was about to go down. He thankfully was able to manage that.
They all baked cupcakes together. They even bet on who made the best cupcake. Dennis was disappointed he didn’t win since he spent the majority of his time growing up cooking although he was better with actual cooking rather than baking. He didn’t take Trinity’s win too personally.
After the cupcakes cooled down the two girls settled into the couch, he looked at Trinity. She looked normal but he saw her tics, the way she rubbed her hands on her jeans or the way she couldn’t fully look at Victoria. It was time.
“Oh guys, we don’t have any snacks. Let me run to the corner store to go grab some.” After saying that, he grabbed his coat and left as quickly as he could. The truly didn’t have any popcorn or proper movie snacks so he really was going out. Though they didn’t need to since they had just baked some cupcakes.
As he made his way out of the apartment building he wondered if Victoria knew that. If she caught onto what was happening with his abrupt departure. Trinity didn’t call her girl genius for nothing so he was sure he caught onto something.
He walked down the empty streets but he couldn’t help but look back at the apartment building every few steps. He tried to imagine what was happening there right now. He was never too good with his imagination so he failed to produce an outcome that wasn’t realistic. Maybe his own awkwardness was seeping into his imagination.
He wasn’t sure, so he continued to follow the sidewalk. He passed by the ice rink and his imagination seemed to be more fruitful there. He stopped for a moment letting memories flutter through his head. He first thought of last week with Trinity and Victoria. The memories flooded his mind, he could almost picture the three of them on the now empty ice.
Though the memories faded and twisted into something much more shameful. He felt colder than he was a second ago. He glanced towards the benches where he had just laced his skates a week ago. A couple of years ago before he found the hospital he had slept there. He only slept there a few times, but those few times left an impact on him. He could practically feel his back aching. He closed his eyes for a few seconds trying to collect himself. When he closed them he could practically see the way the lights used to flicker above him.
Despite these memories running amuck in his head he felt warmth fight its way back. He had a home now, one he would return to shortly. He was grateful for Trinity, without her he would still be in the hospital, possibly out on the streets again.
He continued walking to the corner store feeling a bit lighter. He felt as if he let those old memories go. Once he made his way inside he grabbed popcorn along with some treats. As he made his way to checkout he spotted some avocados and decided to grab some. He figured if all went well at the apartment Trinity deserves the avocados that he’s been devouring.
His way back to the apartment was particularly peaceful. He listened to the snow crunch beneath him with each step he took, he listened to the owls hoot nothing into the night, he listened to his thoughts. Which for once weren’t him worrying he was looking forward to seeing his friends again.
He made his way up the apartment complex while humming to a song he heard on the radio. He stopped in front of the apartment door, kicking his boots gently on the floor to rid of any snow left on the soles. He was a bit nervous to see what happened nonetheless he persevered and opened the door.
What he saw was an ecstatic Trinity alongside her was a blushing Victoria. All had gone well, it could make him hug them tight. He didn’t all he did was replace his boots for house slippers. He walked towards the kitchen, put away the avocados, then started to microwave the popcorn. He glanced back at Trinity who in turn glanced at him.
Then he turned around with a huge grin on his face. “So how’d it go guys?”
Victoria looked slightly confused but he watched as the realization dawned at her. Meanwhile Trinity couldn’t stop cheesing the whole time. She was the first to speak. “Well farm boy what does it look like?”
With that statement he almost started jumping for joy but he did start gushing about how long he’s waited for this moment. All his talk left the two girls bright red but he couldn’t care. He didn’t have to watch the two tiptoe around each other anymore.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was nearing the end of his shift so really all Dennis did was chart. Night shift was already here so he only had a patient if they needed him to jump on a trauma. He just tried to finish up charting so he could get back to the apartment. As far as he knew Trinity and Victoria would be there tonight. He wouldn’t want to miss out on being with his two best friends.
As he sat there typing away he saw Perlah with Princess, going up to Donnie. He was the one keeping track of all the bets. He eyes them as the two clocked out. He wondered if he should put in his own bet. He could probably make more than whatever cash he had in his wallet. He was just a few sentences off of finishing his final chart. So he hurried up before going over to Donnie.
“What are the bets up to?”
“Well right now I’d say around 800. Why do you want to bet? Just remember it’s when and where.”
“Uh yeah, how about February at Trinity’s apartment.” He paused to grab his wallet to check how much cash he had. He pulled out a fifty to hand over. “For fifty.”
Donnie took it and that was that. He knew for a fact that Trinity wouldn’t tell Princess and Perlah the full story. He was bound to win. With that he went to the locker room after clocking out.
He exited PTMC jogging all the way to the bus stop. He just barely caught the bus but lucky for him not many were on it tonight. He took a seat while holding his backpack close to him. He took out his wallet for no particular reason. He opened it up, glossing over its contents. Some bills, Aquaphor, then he noticed something peaking out from a pocket.
It was a Polaroid of him, Trinity, and Victoria. They were all hugging each other at the bar. He was definitely on the verge of being drunk in the photo despite that he remembered it had been Mel who took the photo. He rested his chin on his backpack eager to get home.
