Tom's smile stretched so wide that, rather than being reassuring, it gave him a grotesque appearance, like a predator mocking its wounded prey.
Edd backed away as far as he could, but Tom didn't move an inch.
He had gotten exactly the reaction he wanted."I understand why you're confused. Time is supposed to be linear. When you move forward or backward, you're jumping horizontally. It doesn't matter how much you make the thread of time vibrate by changing things here and there—none of it is enough to alter the timeline.
