Chapter 24: On my own

Chapter Text

Chapter 23

“On my own”

Headphones sighed, 8-bit looked away as she started to speak, “The weird old guy said that this place was abandoned, right?”

Headphones glanced at her, and gave no reaction as she looked back.

“Or did he mean just the Metro stop…” 8-bit desperately tried to make some form of conversation, the other two weren't exactly engaging though. “Either way, he said there were signs, yeah?”

“I think he's… I think he was senile… So can we even trust him? What if he was, like, working for the guy who did this and-” she hushed up at the lack of response, still. “Are you slackers even listening to me?!” She addressed both Specs and Headphones, but she really only was addressing Headphones.

“Can you be quiet?! I-i can't deal with you right now…” Headphones sputtered out as she made an exasperated motion with her hands, now fully turned towards her.

“ ‘Deal with me'?! What am I, a…-a fucking animal?!” She walked closer to Headphones and snarled.

Specs froze in place as he watched them fight, he expected Headphones to just… give up. To not fight. To just ignore her. She had been doing that a lot.

“Pft- with how much you fucking annoy me, you MIGHT AS WELL BE.”

This is new.

“EXCUSE ME? AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN-!?”

Very new.

“‘What does that mean!’” she mimicked, making unenthusiastic jazz hands, “God- IT MEANS YOUR ANNOYING! I AM ANNOYED BY YOU. A-AND YOU KNOW WHAT-?!” Headphones looked around. Two metal signs stuck from two trees on two opposite sides of a forked path. Two arrows leading ahead on both signs.

“...What?” 8-bit narrowed her eyes, daring her to say it. To say she was leaving. She knew she wouldn't. She knew she was soft.

“And I'm not gonna put up with it anymore.” She started to run down one of the paths to the right, “I'LL DO THIS BY MYSELF AND I DON'T NEED ANYONE ELSE!”

Gone.

She was gone.

Specs attempted to catch up to her but 8-bit blocked his path, “She…Sh-she'll come back.”

“But-?!”

“We're going the other way. We don't need her either.”

“But she's our friend-”

“Apparently not.”

…a moment of silence followed her words, but it felt loud.

“let's go.”
