CANADIAN FIGURE SKATING NATIONALS — MEN’S & PAIRS RECAP
Canada Nationals wrapped this weekend in Victoria with a familiar mix of dominance, pressure, and a few quiet reminders that the next Olympic cycle is already taking shape.
On the men’s side, all eyes were once again on Joe Dylan, the reigning Olympic top 10 finisher who continues to be widely projected as one of Canada’s strongest future medal contenders heading into the next Winter Games.
Dylan delivered a composed short program that leaned into control over risk, landing every major jumping pass cleanly and earning the highest component scores of the night. His free skate, set to a minimal piano arrangement that left almost no room to hide, was less about difficulty overload and more about precision, speed maintenance, and maturity under pressure.
It was the kind of performance that doesn’t scream for attention but steadily builds it anyway.
Commentators noted that while he didn’t chase maximum technical content, his consistency across both programs kept him firmly in the top tier nationally and well within the international conversation.
Dylan, who now trains full-time in Toronto after relocating from his junior base, remains closely associated with coach Matthew Caldwell, the same developmental coach who once worked with both him and pair skaters Rose Landry and Shane Hollander before their senior careers diverged into entirely different competitive trajectories.
That shared junior history has become a recurring talking point among fans, especially now that all three athletes are competing at the very top of their respective disciplines.
In pairs, Landry and Hollander once again confirmed their national dominance, securing their second consecutive Canadian national title with a performance that left little room for doubt.
Their short program was sharp, fast, and technically airtight, while their free skate built into a crescendo that had the arena reacting before elements even finished. Judges awarded them decisive margins across both segments, reinforcing what has now become a pattern: when they are clean, they are essentially untouchable domestically.
With this win, they remain reigning Canadian champions for a second straight year, continuing a streak that has turned them into the face of Canadian pairs skating.
Comments:
@edgequeen
Joe Dylan skating like he has a calculator in his brain, and I mean that in the best possible way
@coldcoffeeandchaos
The fact that Joe, Rose, and Shane all trained under Coach Matthew at some point is actually starting to feel like origin lore
@icedancerarchive
Rose and Shane winning nationals again like it’s a routine check-in at this point 😭
@goalieproblems
Joe Dylan is so calm it stresses me out. Like blink twice if you’re okay king
@MapleLeafOnIce
Second straight national title for Rose and Shane and people are still acting surprised every time they win
@PuckTalkDaily
The consistency gap between them and literally everyone else in Canada is kind of insane now
@rinkrat27
Not to be dramatic but Coach Matthew built half the Canadian skating pipeline apparently
@CanadiensNation
Joe Dylan is what happens when you remove chaos and add only discipline
@edgeelements
His skating is so controlled it almost looks slow until you realize he’s covering the entire rink in like 12 seconds
@closetedandcold
Rose and Shane are just out here casually collecting national titles like frequent flyer points
@BostonSportsDaily
I still cannot believe Canada produces this many elite skaters and also just acts normal about it
@harvardconfessions
Joe Dylan looks like he would apologize to the ice if he fell on it
@goalieproblems
He absolutely would
@icedancerarchive
Meanwhile, Rose would laugh, Shane would stress about it for 48 hours, and Ilya would threaten the ice
@MapleLeafOnIce
Correct lineup
@coldcoffeeandchaos
The junior group under Coach Matthew is starting to feel like an Avengers origin story
@rinksidejules
“Reigning Canadian champions for a second year” is such a polite way of saying nobody is catching them
@edgequeen
Joe at nationals: quiet excellence
Rose and Shane at nationals: emotional damage but make it gold medalist
@PuckTalkDaily
Different genres of suffering, same podium energy
@goalieproblems
Joe Dylan in Toronto just training like it’s a monk retreat while everyone else is causing discourse online
@MapleLeafOnIce
Honestly respect
@icedancerarchive
I miss when skating was simple and I didn’t know who everyone’s childhood coach was 😭
@coldcoffeeandchaos
It stopped being simple the moment Shane Hollander learned how to speak online
@CanadiensNation
We are now in the Coach Matthew cinematic universe whether we like it or not
@ColdCoffeeAndChaos
Okay so we need to talk about the Boston Raiders vs Montreal Voyagers situation because I feel like nobody is acknowledging how completely unbalanced this season has become
@PuckTalkDaily
“unbalanced” is generous
This is borderline historical collapse
@BostonSportsNow
The Raiders are sitting comfortably at the top of the division again and people are acting surprised, like this isn’t the third season in a row
@CanadiensNation
I would like to respectfully ask what the actual hell is happening to Montreal
@goalieproblems
No, because the Voyagers are not just losing
They’re losing in new creative ways every week
@rinkrat27
I watched a 5–1 loss and thought “okay that’s bad” and then they followed it with a 7–2
Against the Raiders
@MapleLeafOnIce
THE 7–2 IS STILL FOLLOWING ME AROUND
I HEAR IT IN MY SLEEP
@BruinsBurner91
Seven-two is basically Ilya Rozanov’s love language at this point
@HabsInferno
DON’T BRING HIM INTO THIS!
@coldcoffeeandchaos
You mean the same Ilya Rozanov who is currently alternating between “Boston Raiders alternate captain” and “Montreal’s public nightmare”?
Yeah, no he’s relevant
@sportsmedia101
The Raiders are playing like a team that knows exactly what they’re doing every shift
The Voyagers look like they’re meeting each other for the first time every period
@PuckTalkDaily
It’s not even coaching at this point
It’s structural
Something is fundamentally not clicking
@goalieproblems
I said it last week and I’ll say it again
Boston has a system
Montreal has disfunction and prayers
@CanadiensNation
We do NOT have prayers
We have pain
@BostonSportsDaily
The funniest part is the Raiders aren’t even peaking
They’re just… consistent
Like they wake up, decide not to lose, and go home
@coldcoffeeandchaos
Meanwhile Montreal is discovering new ways to lose, like it’s a research project
@rinkrat44
I’m sorry but how do you concede an empty net goal AND a delayed penalty goal in the same minute
@goalieproblems
Talent
Just not the good kind
@HabsInferno
I am going to log off forever
@CanadiensNation
Please don’t
We need witnesses
@EdgeElements
As someone who follows skating more than hockey, I just want to say I started watching this season because of Shane Hollander and somehow ended up learning about the entire emotional collapse of Montreal hockey
@coldcoffeeandchaos
Welcome to the ecosystem
@PuckTalkDaily
It started with Shane and now you’re emotionally invested in a Boston-Montreal rivalry you didn’t ask for
@MapleLeafOnIce
And somehow Ilya Rozanov is in the middle of it like a chaotic bridge between universes
@goalieproblems
He is literally just there
Scoring
Annoying Montreal fans
Going back to practice
Repeat
@BruinsBurner91
Don’t forget commercials
@sportsmedia101
Oh right
Adidas, Coca-Cola, Dunkin’, and Absolut Vodka
The man is collecting sponsorships like penalties at this point
@CanadiensNation
Why is he sponsored by EVERYTHING?!
@coldcoffeeandchaos
Because advertisers saw him say “What rivalry?” after a 7–2 win and said yeah that’s marketable
@rinkrat27
That interview still haunts me
“I think there are many wonderful golf courses in Quebec”
LIKE WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!!
@MapleLeafOnIce
It means he’s funny and hates Montreal
@HabsInferno
Stop explaining him like he’s a poet
He’s a menace
@goalieproblems
Both can be true
The man contains multitudes
@BostonSportsNow
Anyway the Raiders are now comfortably ahead in standings again and still nobody is talking about how deep their roster is
@PuckTalkDaily
We are talking about it
We’re just also distracted by Montreal self-destructing on live television
@coldcoffeeandchaos
Priorities
@CanadiensNation
Our goalie just threw his stick
On purpose
@CanadiensNation
I repeat
On purpose
@rinkrat27
That’s not a strategy, that’s a cry for help
@sportsmedia101
Boston fans watching this like:
🙂
@BostonSportsDaily
We’re not even surprised anymore
That’s the scary part
@MapleLeafOnIce
This feels like when one friend group gets really successful and the other one just slowly starts disappearing
@goalieproblems
Except they still have to play each other every few weeks
@coldcoffeeandchaos
And Ilya Rozanov keeps scoring like he’s personally offended by Montreal’s existence
@BruinsBurner91
He probably is
@HabsInferno
I HATE ALL OF YOU
@CanadiensNation
We know
@PuckTalkDaily
The real story here is Boston consistency vs Montreal instability
But nobody is ready for that conversation because the memes are too strong
@EdgeElements
I just want to say again
I came for figure skating
I stayed for hockey chaos
and I regret nothing
@coldcoffeeandchaos
You can leave any time
@EdgeElements
I can’t
I need to know if Montreal will win another game this month
@goalieproblems
They will
Eventually
Probably…
…maybe
@BostonSportsNow
That’s the most optimistic thing anyone has said all season about them
@MapleLeafOnIce
And somehow Boston fans are just casually existing through all of this like it’s weather
@coldcoffeeandchaos
Because for them it basically is weather
“Oh, Montreal lost again? anyway practice tomorrow”
@PuckTalkDaily
This league is cooked
@CanadiensNation
No, the league is fine
WE are cooked
@HabsInferno
I miss when we were just slightly bad
Now we’re historically bad
@goalieproblems
Growth mindset
@CanadiensNation
Don’t you dare
@coldcoffeeandchaos
Anyway if the Raiders keep this up and Montreal keeps this trajectory we are going to need emotional support intermissions next season
@MapleLeafOnIce
We already do
We just call them commercials
@BostonSportsDaily
And Ilya Rozanov ads
@BruinsBurner91
Especially the Cherry Coke one
“it’s good”
Iconic
@sportsmedia101
Somehow that’s still the most personality Montreal has seen from him
@CanadiensNation
Stop
Just stop
@coldcoffeeandchaos
Can’t
This is our life now

Holiday Special: Winter Lights
Introducing Rose Landry for the Christmas Collection
[photos]
— Rose Landry standing against a plain studio backdrop with soft white lighting. She is wearing a structured set of white lingerie with subtle silver detailing and matching high-waisted bottoms. Over it, she has large white feathered wings with faint gold accents at the edges. Her arms are relaxed at her sides, shoulders squared, gaze directed slightly off-camera.
— Rose sitting on a low platform covered in white fabric. She is wearing a deep red lingerie set with lace texture and thin straps, paired with a sheer matching robe left open. Her wings are folded slightly behind her, angled outward, with soft feather layering visible along the edges. One leg is bent, the other extended forward.
— Close framing shot: Rose standing with her torso angled three-quarters to the camera. She is in a black lace set with a high-cut design and thin garter straps. The wings here are darker, almost black with subtle red undertones near the base. Her hands are positioned lightly at her waist, elbows relaxed.
— Full-body shot: Rose leaning slightly backward against a studio prop column. She is wearing a light-blue and silver lingerie set with intricate strap detailing and matching gloves that reach just past the wrist. The wings are fully spread behind her, feather layers arranged in a symmetrical arc. Her weight balanced on one leg.
— Final image: Rose seated on the floor; knees bent to one side. She is wearing a pale champagne-toned lingerie set with minimal detailing and translucent fabric panels. The wings are partially visible behind her, softened by the lighting, with a faint glow effect created by the studio setup.
Comments:
@hockeycentral
She did this before Skate Canada.
Be serious.
@coldcoffeeandchaos
Rose Landry really said: Skate Canada, Grand Prix Final prep, and Victoria’s Secret Christmas campaign.
How is she real?
@edgequeen
The black set with the wings is insane.
@goalieproblems
I’m sorry but HOW did she go from this to landing a throw jump like that a week later.
@rinkrat27
Athletes in other sports are shaking.
Figure skaters are just built differently.
@MapleLeafOnIce
The light-blue and silver set is going to be everywhere in edits by tomorrow morning.
@icedancerarchive
As a skating fan I just need to emphasize:
She was doing this shoot and training triples on the same day.
@BostonSportsDaily
Rose Landry’s work ethic is actually unreal.
Campaign shoot → travel → competition → world records.
@CanadiensNation
Meanwhile I need three days to recover from one social event.
@closetedandcold
The red set is giving “break your personal best and your heart in the same weekend.”
@goalieproblems
No but seriously the timing is insane.
She was literally on ice for Skate Canada like days after this.
@coldcoffeeandchaos
“Built differently” is starting to feel like an understatement.
@PuckTalkDaily
Victoria’s Secret marketing team saw a reigning world champion and said: yes, immediately.
@harvardconfessions
How do you explain to people you share a classroom with someone doing THIS and also competing internationally.
@edgequeen
The wings in the last photo are actually the perfect framing.
@rinkrat44
I cannot stress enough how normal she looks in all of these.
Like this is just Tuesday for her apparently.
@coldcoffeeandchaos
I love how none of this slowed her down competitively.
If anything, it made her stronger.
@icedancerarchive
That’s what elite conditioning looks like honestly.
@goalieproblems
Rose Landry is out here breaking world records and fashion industries in the same month.
@BostonSportsDaily
I’m just saying:
If you told someone this was two different people, they’d believe you.
@CanadiensNation
She really said: offseason? never heard of her.
@edgequeen
The white lingerie set with the feather wings is going to live rent free in my brain for a while.
@coldcoffeeandchaos
This comment section is about to become unhinged in 3…2…1…

Okay I’m just saying it out loud: Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov are NOT “just friends”
Everyone keeps pushing this “oh they’re best friends” narrative but let’s be real for a second because at this point it feels like denial.
Ilya literally spent Christmas with the Hollander family in Ottawa. That’s not “we happen to be in the same city”. That’s a family dinner, matching timeline posts, and Yuna Hollander posting him at the table like he belongs there.
We have:
— Christmas dinner photos from Yuna’s account with Shane and Ilya sitting side by side
— David Hollander posting them skating together on the frozen lake close to their house
— Shane’s own story of them watching a terrible Christmas movie (Ilya clearly suffering through it)
— Ilya posting hot chocolate at the same time Shane posted the same mug
— Multiple “Boston outings” that do not involve Rose: a Japanese restaurant “dinner date”, late-night walks, and that grocery store incident everyone pretends is normal
And people are still calling it “just friendship” because Rose is involved sometimes? Be serious.
I’m not even saying it’s public yet. I’m saying it’s obvious.
Comments:
@hockeycentral
I’m sorry but the Christmas dinner thing is actually insane.
Yuna Hollander inviting her son-in-law for dinner?
Maybe…
@MapleLeafOnIce
The Japanese restaurant “dinner date” was the first red flag honestly.
@coldcoffeeandchaos
I was neutral until the matching hot chocolate posts. That’s just disrespectful at that point 😭
@rinkrat27
“They’re just friends” okay explain, why they’re always 2 inches apart in every candid photo then.
@goalieproblems
Counterpoint: NHL players are just weirdly affectionate and travel a lot.
Not everything is romance.
@icedancerarchive
As a skating fan who got dragged into this: this is exactly how we talk about skating pairs before they confirm anything btw
@CanadiensNation
This is how you get a 200-page conspiracy thread and no actual evidence btw
@catboyshane
I need everyone to stop looking at Shane and Ilya like they’re a Netflix original drama 😭
@BostonSportsDaily
If they WERE dating, do you really think Rose would be allowed in the dynamic 24/7 like that
Be serious
@rinksidejules
Counter-counterpoint: Rose would absolutely be third wheeling and enjoying it
@MapleLeafOnIce
The real question is why Ilya looks more comfortable with Shane’s family than Shane does half the time
@icedancerarchive
Because Shane is the only one experiencing emotional awareness in real time
@goalieproblems
Ilya is literally just Russian. That’s the explanation for all of this.
@PuckTalkDaily
The “proof” here is basically:
— friends spend holidays together
— athletes post at same time sometimes
I’m begging everyone to go outside and touch grass😭
@closetedandcold
No because the grocery store incident was suspicious.
Who goes out to buy ginger ale in the middle of the night?
And what did they do with that can of whipped cream?!!!
I’m still not over that.
@edgequeen
I don’t even care if it’s real or not anymore, I just enjoy the content at this point
@MapleLeafOnIce
This is how every sports fandom eventually collapses into fanfiction discourse btw
@catboyshane
“we have proof”
The proof: two people ate chicken in the same house on Christmas 😭
@CanadiensNation
If they announce anything official, I’m deleting this app.
@coldcoffeeandchaos
If they DON’T announce anything official, I’m also deleting this app because what are we even doing here?
@LuluLives
Worth it 👍
