Shane doesn't move when he feels the barrel of the gun pressed against the back of his head and hears the distinct click of the safety being turned off.
“I think there's been a misunderstanding,” he says, keeping his voice level.

klb's note: I have been avoiding making Heated Rivalry podfic even though I have really really wanted to, because of how much I struggle when attempting Ilya's accent. But then here comes vexbatch, my hero, my co-podficcer in shining armor, with their excellent Ilya voice and their willingness to multivoice this story with me. A DREAM COME TRUE!!! This podfic was my first time voicing Shane, and I loved it! I'm thrilled we got to bring this incredible story to life, and I think it came out awesome :)
One note—since Shane doesn't know Ilya's name in this until Ilya gives it, the way Shane pronounces Rosanov in this fic is not the same as in canon, and is instead an approximation of how he hears Ilya pronounce it. You'll see what I mean! Know that it was not a mistake but a purposeful decision to fit this AU.
