Chapter Text
May 13th, 2005
It was the night of everyone's life right now as McKinley Amusement Park roared of screams and shrieks of excitement and fear coming from all the rides around the park, people chatting excitedly with each other about whatever comes to mind, mechanisms of rides all over the place followed by screams of cheer and excitement as they shot up and down and all over the place.
Decades ago, McKinley's Amusement Park was nothing more than a fruit stand around Red River Apple Orchard. The land itself was owned by Armando Adam McKinley at the time, a younger cousin of the original McKinley brothers and founders of McKinley itself, Garris and Galen. While they all had humble beginnings and were close with one another, unlike his cousins who aspired for big dreams regarding wealth and honor, in the 1930s, Armando strayed off into his own path with the intentions of being a simple vendor, with a simple life. Although unfortunately, that life didn't last long for him, as about a decade after he set up shop, he had gotten a wife, had been making enough profits to get by with his fruit stand alone, and was living life well, until one day, he died from a major accident regarding a lightning strike on one of his apple trees, causing a giant branch to come loose and fall onto the ground, right on top of Armando, pile driving him into the ground and crushing half of his body while his other half layed there twitching, but there were signs of lifelessness in Armando's eyes as he passed on, with only his corpse remaining there.
To say his family was upset is an understatement. They were heavily distraught, especially Armando's wife Lily, who seemed the most upset out of everyone, especially considering how she was pregnant, and now Armando will never even meet his child. A few other relatives of Armando were also upset, and even Garris and Galen were there at his funeral, as while they never had the same views or aspirations as him, and had their own problems to deal with, they were still close to him regardless and didn't want to move on without some closure. After the funeral was over, they went back to their lives as normal, though they'd never forget that dreadful day of seeing them carefully place the coffin down into the ground, that held their cousin inside. Even though Garris and Galen's lives continued as normal, along with their usual problems, Armando's family's lives went downhill ever since he died. His wife, Lily, had her daughter Amelia, and she had to take over his business to keep them afloat, and at first it was still going strong, since Armando's death boosted its popularity as he was well-liked around the area and always provided people with what they needed. Although all of that success soon got into Lily's head as she strayed away from the responsibilities regarding her daughter, and had prioritised her husband's business completely, leading her daughter to take care of herself and become more independent, which was no easy task for a girl her age.
Things only escalated further as a few years went by, to where Lily had gotten too obsessed with keeping their business afloat to where she had soon used the rest of Armando's land to set up more assets to help them make more money, especially since fruit stands were slowly becoming yesterday's news by then. She added a general store that not only sold products other than fruit, but it also replaced her husband's fruit stand, and the store had received the same exact success as the fruit stand did back in the day, driving Lily further into her obsession than the tree branch did to Armando in the ground. Soon enough, a restaurant was added, and then Lily implemented a merry go round, anything to bring more people in to buy stuff from her store, restaurant, anything. But the second the merry go round was there, things were about to change for the family again.
During the early 1950s, everyone started coming over just for the merry go round, giving Lily the idea of adding more attractions and entertainment around the area, and with enough of them, she could earn enough money to build a motel and charge people to stay there overnight. And soon enough, a ferris wheel came along, then a ghost train and a regular roller coaster, along with some usual midway huckster games you see at funfairs, involving clown shooters, dart throwing, ring tosses, you name it. All of this, further booming the business and the reputation Red River Apple Orchards, or as its new name was at the time, decades after Armando's cousins, Garris and Galen had founded the entire town and renamed it into McKinley, Red River Apple Orchards was renamed to McKinley Centre Park.
There was so much more that Lily wanted to implement, but by the early 70s, she passed away because of cardiovascular diseases, and people wrote it off as her dealing with lots of chronic stress from her obsession and dedication towards maintaining Armando's family business. Or rather, her family business as there's been several occasions where people have questioned her on whether Armando would want this on his family name, or if this might be going against his beliefs, only for Lily to either dismiss them, change the subject, or blantly say yes without giving it too much thought. But when she did think about it, even for a few seconds, she couldn't help but question if Armando would be happy about this, especially considering how it affected their daughter Amelia, who moved out and away from Lily ages ago, when she was 15, as she wanted nothing to do with the business or her mother, since her negligence led to Amelia gaining her own set of beliefs and Independence, leading to Lily feeling disgusted at her because of how ungrateful she was, as Lily had claimed, but she also felt remorseful at the same time for not being more mindful towards her daughter's life, because maybe then she wouldn't have left if she did.
Despite all of that though, Lily had kept up her business mindset, up until Death had caught up with her. Her death had an impact on McKinley Centre Park and her family, just like Armando, but not a good impact unlike Armando. The park's popularity started declining after Lily's death, and at one point, was threatened to be shut down, until Amelia had decided to take over management of the park, as much as she didn't want to, but her life hadn't been so easy ever since she moved out, as she was only able to make enough money from random jobs to stay alive, but not enough to care if she does or enough to properly try and make something of herself, and while she didn't want anything to do with the family business anymore, it was mostly a last resort for her to make money and possibly do something with her life. Plus, despite her strained relationship with her mother, even after death, Lily still had her will of Amelia taking charge of the business once she retired, making it easy for Amelia to gain ownership of the park, and a part of her wanted to do it for her mother, but it was mostly for herself.
Unfortunately, even after Amelia had gained ownership, McKinley Centre Park kept rapidly declining throughout the 80s, no matter how much Amelia had tried to keep it afloat. The advent of other super theme parks like Six Flags, Disneyland and Ranging Waters didn't help either at the time, as they took up a lot of the attention and success with their own attractions and computer designed thrill parks, which the giant wheels, merry go rounds, and stores of McKinley Centre Park couldn't compete against. Around the early 90s, theme parks had become a massive trend, and Amelia finally gave in and decided to use up the remaining budget she had to go all out and compete with all the other theme parks through building and designing some thrill rides of her own. It would've been impossible for her to pull off alone, but she had gotten into contact with some of her other relatives, like Troy McKinley, who was willing to provide her with just enough necessities to help her get back on her feet and to help expand McKinley Centre Park, which was then soon renamed to McKinley Amusement Park. Amelia also had the idea of making the rides the scariest and most dangerous looking attractions that no other theme park could have, in order to fit with the theme park demographic at the time through giving an edge towards all the teenagers out there.
The entrance consisting of cute farm animal cartoon characters that greeted families into the park were replaced by an ark framed with flames and Devil's heads. Lots of new rides were built over time like High Dive, Last Ride, Devil's Flight and a bunch of others, while some of the old attractions and rides that remained were renamed, such as the apple crate express being renamed to bonebreaker. Although despite Amelia having the budget and assets to build all of these rides, they still took a long time to build, so a lot of the old attractions were still there for the time being, giving the area an old timey carnival like atmosphere, something that people can still experience with some of the old games of skill that still remained like the ring tosses, underneath all of modern thrill attractions and curving steel skeletons around the park.
By the time the 2000s hit, McKinley Amusement Park was immediately known as one of the top ten horror theme parks you'd have to visit at least once in your life, and majority of the people who've been to the park would agree. Ownership of the amusement park was currently managed as a side business by Troy McKinley, as on top of providing her with the necessary assets, he was also close with Amelia McKinley in the 90s and had formed a partnership with her in regards to the theme park, and also because she was family. He also had respect for her commitment towards carrying on her mother's legacy as well as her view on hard work, unlike his son. However one day, Ameila had suddenly disappeared off of the grid, with no traces as to her current whereabouts. Her last known location was at a house near McKinley Avenue 081 for a party she was having as a celebration for the amusement park's success in 1997, which ended in a house explosion before the party could properly get started. Though there were reports explaining that a few people, including Ameila, managed to get out before the house exploded, although the story about what happened to the survivors after the house explosion was all over the place. Some reports said that the survivors were confirmed to be dead, some reported that they were missing, some reported that they were alive, etc. And of course, no one knew if Amelia was alive or dead, but her whereabouts were unknown, as well as the whereabouts for the other survivors. Ever since Ameila's disappearance in the late 90s, Troy McKinley decided to take over the amusement park's management and ownership, for Ameila, as a side business for him to work on here and there, and maybe as an investment or opportunity for his children in the future.
As of now, tonight was the night of McKinley High School's senior trip towards the Amusement Park. The school rarely had trips around there, around once in a blue moon, but when they do, you already know that not a single senior at McKinley High was gonna miss out on it. Unless they were sick out of their minds, either physically to where they couldn't get out of bed, or in the sense that they just don't like amusement parks, as others have said. Especially since for the entire night, everything was free for all the seniors, or more specifically, paid for by the school. Rides, snacks, games, you name it. Especially since all the seniors at McKinley High would soon be heading off to the next stage of their lives, like leaving for the college life for higher opportunities in the future or working part time jobs to try and eventually make enough money to make something for themselves or till they got everything figured out, all of that stuff, basically just the next major stage of their lives, and this night McKinley Amusement Park was gonna be the night of their lives before they step into that stage, something big for them to remember about their youth once they're living adulthood and dealing with the complexity of life onwards with nowhere to go but up.
Speaking of nowhere to go but up, screams of cheer could be heard from all over McKinley Amusement Park in the air from the High Dive Ride, though it could easily be mistaken for them coming from literally anywhere in the amusement park, given the amount of scary rides there are. The High Dive's gondola around the fifty foot white column was constantly rising to the top, and plunging back down at a tremendous speed, as some would describe after riding it. In the middle of the column, the comically large words HIGH DIVE were flashing on and off again in red as the gondola rose up and down the column, passing those words over and over again as they constantly flashed for the world to see while screams of cheer could be heard from all the people strapped in the seats inside the gondola as it rose up and down, with all their hands in their air and expressions of excitement and fear in their faces.
Soon enough, the High Dive's Gondola began slowing down once it had reached the bottom of the gondola, with a mixture of frightened and pumped up faces sitting in the chairs of the gondola, surrounding the white column.
"Yeah! You see that?!",a boy named Kevin Fischer yelled out as he and a couple others were sat on one of the rows of the gondola, grinning like crazy.
As the gondola began slowing down near the bottom before it came to a halt, a camera flash went off that was aimed towards the gondola, and photographer Wendy Christensen lowered her camera as she looked at her friends' frightened and pumped up faces on the gondola.
"Oh my god.",she said, chuckling as the gondola came to a halt at the bottom of the column.
"That was sick! Absolutely worth it!", a boy named Jason Wise said as he and Kevin bumped fists with each other.
"Nice, Nice, Nice!",Kevin said as he bumped his fist with Jason's, while the girl sitting between them, Carrie Dreyer, was chuckling with a mixture of fear and excitement in her tone.
As her friends kept chuckling and chatting excitedly while the ride came to a complete halt, Wendy Christensen was busy trying to find the shot of the high dive, and hopefully the frightened looks of her friends' faces as the gondola shot up in the air. She was grinning as she fumbled around with the buttons on the camera, trying to see where the shots had gone once she took them. Wendy was assigned to take pictures for McKinley High School's yearbooks, seeing how the school year this time around was slowly coming to an end. For seniors like her, Jason, Carrie and Kevin, this would be their last year at McKinley High School before they all went off in their own directions leading to their future, with Wendy and Carrie heading off to Yale, and Jason and Kevin heading off to University of Nevada, Las Vegas, which were far away from each other to where some would feel like they were on different planets.
McKinley High School had finally provided Wendy with a brand new digital camera, which was pretty cool at first, especially when compared to the old one she had to use within the past few years as McKinley High School's yearly photographer, but of course, it takes time for people to learn and get used to new technology, and Wendy was no exception. She hadn't completely figured out all of the functions towards operating the camera, and much to her dismay, the school never provided her with the manual. Especially since they had only just provided her with it after she had gotten almost all of the pictures she needed for the yearbook with the old camera. She only had a few more to get, and maybe tonight could be a good chance to finish it up, though she probably would've had it done ages ago if she knew how to properly operate the camera.
There we go, the Archives. That was where the photos were. She kept grinning excitedly as she navigated through the pictures she'd taken so far of other students for the yearbook, till she came across the one showing the high dive. Her grin faltered as she saw that the gondola had already gone down by the time she snapped a shot at it, with only the top part caught in the shot, but unfortunately, none of the frightened faces of anyone riding on it were in the picture. Although her face dropped down slightly further as she paused for a moment, before glancing between the giant words on the high dive column and the picture on her camera. The letters on the column were all lit, or more specifically, the letters writing DIVE were all lit, but in the photo, the V was unlit, and the words on the column said: "HIGH DI E".
High Die. For some reason, that rubbed her the wrong way as she felt a shiver go down her spine. More weirdly, she's been feeling that shiver ever since she and her friends arrived at McKinley Amusement Park's entrance, like something was gonna go horribly wrong tonight, but Wendy had shook that thought off immediately as it could just be her being nervous about going on Devil's Flight, which she had promised with Jason, Carrie and Kevin in the morning as they were talking about graduation at McKinley High School as well as the senior trip at McKinley Amusement Park. Although that shiver coming back, especially with a photo like this caused her to feel a bit concerned, but as she kept glancing back and forth between the high dive column in front of her and the one in her picture, she suddenly felt Jason's arm around her as they took off, with Carrie and Kevin following behind, wide grins on their faces. Wendy was then snapped out of her thoughts and began laughing with them as they walked around the amusement park. For a split second, Wendy then figured that the lights on the high dive were on some sort of cycle, and the V had happened to flash off at the right time.
"That was intense man! To just feel like…like to just crash and burn like that?!",Kevin exclaimed excitedly as he high fived Jason, with his other arm hung over Carrie.
Wendy rolled her eyes smirking, though she felt a bit tense as Kevin said that. "Yeah, yeah, maybe for you, but our lives are actually going somewhere."
"Alright, well we gotta make it to Devil's Flight.",Jason said, looking at his watch as he did. "Our fast passes are for 9:15, and we miss that, we're gonna have to stand in line for a day and a half, and that's gonna kill the hell out of me."
The four teens kept walking throughout the amusement park, chatting and laughing as they made their way to the entrance of the Devil's Flight ride, which was widely known for being one of the scariest, if not the scariest and biggest roller coaster you've ever gone on in your life. Lots of people throughout McKinley have kept saying how you haven't lived until you've been on Devil's Flight. Here and there, Wendy has seen some students at school wearing T-Shirts reading: "I SURVIVED DEVIL'S FLIGHT!",and showing it off to others around the school. Wendy had also worn the T-Shirt at one point, despite the fact that she had never gone on the ride before. She loved most amusement park rides as much as the next person, but she was never a fan of heights, let alone roller coasters in general.
The last time she went on one was when she was 11, which was the only time she's ever been on one in her life, as she didn't like the idea of going on rollercoasters before, and the one time she finally caved in and went on one was the time she decided she was done with roller coasters for the rest of her life once the ride ended that day, since it confirmed her idea of going on roller coasters from before. The ride was short, but traumatising enough for her, especially towards her fear of heights. Her friends have been constantly begging her to come onto Devil's Flight ever since they first stepped foot into McKinley Amusement Park at the start of high school whenever they hung out together, and she had always declined, but tonight, after losing a bet with Carrie, she knew she had to finally face her fears head on and board the stupid ride, as much as she didn't want to, but she did promise her friends that she would if she lost the bet, and she usually wasn't the type of person to back out on promises, unless they were questionably stupid. As the group walked past a section of another roller coaster, Kevin had noticed a roofed eating area with lots of different food stands nearby, and his eyes were focused on a sign that read: Deep Fried Twinkies and Snickers Bars!
"Ok, ok, come on.",Kevin called out. "It won't kill us to get a deep fried snickers in a cone real quick."
Carrie and Jason grimaced a bit, though Jason had a bit of a smile on his face. "What, before riding Devil's Flight?",he asked. "Yeah that might kill me man."
"No, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger man!",Kevin replied with a grin as he playfully hung his arm over Jason's back.
"Yeah and what'll kill you will kill you, Kevin.",Carrie said, chuckling a bit.
Wendy was about to chime in a retort to that, but a roller coaster car suddenly flew by her, followed by screams coming from everyone inside, catching her off guard for a bit as she stopped in place for a moment and watched the cars go ahead on the tracks, while Jason, Carrie and Kevin kept laughing as they made their way to the food stands. Wendy suddenly felt that eerie feeling from before as she moved a strand of her hair away from her face as the wind rush from the roller coaster car had blown it a bit, and she stared at the rest of the track up ahead for a while, before her eyes slowly glanced over to the giant set of tracks that was Devil's Flight itself.
It was insanely massive with loops, turns and slopes all over the place, with some of the tracks held up at about 20-30 feet in the air, giving Wendy butterflies in her stomach as she watched a roller coaster car come down from a giant slope on the tracks, with screams followed behind it as they echoed in the air, making Wendy feel more nervous, though not the kind of nervous people would feel before riding a roller coaster, the kind of nervous as if something was gonna go wrong...
"Hey, Wendy?",a voice suddenly spoke, startling her as she looked away from the tracks to see Carrie standing in front of her, while Kevin and Jason were chatting with each other near the food stands.
"You ok?",she asked as she noticed Wendy looking a bit on edge, concerning her a bit.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine.",Wendy claimed, shaking her thoughts off as she began walking to the eating area, with Carrie right behind her.
"Let's get over before they forget to order for us too.",Wendy said, as she and Carrie chuckled a bit while they made their way to where Jason and Kevin were at the food area.
As Wendy and Carrie got over to the food stand, Kevin was ordering his deep fried mess of snickers, as well as making remarks to Jason here and there about what he was planning on ordering.
"Jay come on, tell me you wouldn't go for a deep fried desert apocalypse right now.",Kevin playfully jabbed at him, while Jason and the girls grimaced a bit.
"And empty my stomach all over Devil's Flight right away?",he retorted, chuckling. "Yeah, I'm not letting you win that easy man."
He, Wendy and Carrie then glanced at the menu above the counter, looking at what they would want. Wendy was mostly just considering a drink, maybe a seven-up or a coke, since like Jason said, she wasn't looking for an excuse to throw up on the tracks, whether it would drive the experience further home or not. The idea of the experience of riding the thing itself was already enough for her, she didn't need to add onto it, she already was anyway by actually riding it, much to her dismay. She scoffed to herself with a smile as she thought about it. Though out of the corner of her eye, she saw the high dive's gondola shoot itself up in the air, followed by screams.
Even though she had already assumed that the letters' lights were on some cycle, she couldn't help but glance over to them warily. She watched them for a couple minutes, waiting for the V or any of the letters to cycle through their flashes and for one of them to blink out again. It didn't though, much to her dismay. She tried to shrug it off as it could just be a long cycle, but she kept her gaze on the column's letters while the gondola kept shooting up and down, because something about it rubbed Wendy the wrong way, and the screams echoing in the air from all the passengers strapped in the gondola didn't reassure her one bit.
"Hey, Wednesday?",Jason called out, startling Wendy as she turned away from the high dive.
"You gonna order something?",he asked, though while no one could tell, there was a bit of concern in his eyes as he looked at Wendy.
"Just a seven up, please.",Wendy said as she walked over to the counter, immediately shrugging off whatever sudden tension she felt.
"A seven up?",Kevin piped up. "Kinda basic for you, don't you think?",he comically asked, leading to Carrie quietly elbowing him.
"As basic as you're gonna see from me.",Wendy retorted with a smug look, knowing he was taking a jab at her control freak nature usually handling a lot of complex things, like managing her life.
After a while, the group sat at a nearby table, with a small paper sign laying flatly on the table reading 23. Wendy set down her can of seven up, as well as the yearbook camera on the table while Carrie was drinking out of her diet coke can, though unfortunately for Kevin and Jason, they had to wait for their snacks for a while, and there was a queue behind them, so they had no excuse to just wait near the counter, unless they wanted to deal with a few other starving customers.
"Oh, I'll take that.",Kevin said as he suddenly reached across the table and picked up Wendy's camera, just as she was about to pop open her seven up can.
"No, give it back.",Wendy pleaded, annoyed as she tried to reach for the camera. "It's not even mine Kevin, it's the yearbook's."
"Well in that case…",Kevin said with a smug look.
As a girl named Stacy Kobayashi walked past the table, Kevin held the camera low to the ground and took a shot up her skirt, unknown to the pretty girl as she kept walking while Kevin and Jason were quietly chuckling to themselves, and Kevin was about to look at the camera to see the picture in it's full "glory", but Wendy suddenly reached for the camera and grabbed it out of his hand.
"Hey, hey, give me the-",Kevin began as he reached for the camera.
Suddenly, Wendy clicked the button, and the camera flash went off in his face, causing Kevin to reel back, groaning as he was clutching his eyes for a moment while Wendy pulled the camera back, chuckling a bit as she and Jason looked at the close up of Kevin on the screen. It was all overexposed and Kevin's eyes were shut completely, and it looked like a bomb, or something had gone off in his face. Wendy and Jason chuckled as they kept looking at the photo, since something did go off in his face, which was the camera flash.
"Uh, could you like, please delete that one of Stacy?",Carrie asked, lightly slapping Kevin by his arm, though it looked more forceful rather than playful.
"Yeah, don't worry.",Wendy said in between chuckles as she kept looking at Kevin's photo. "I'll have to do it at home though. Haven't really got this whole camera figured out yet."
"No, you gotta…gotta keep that one.",Kevin said, blinking his eyes as he tried to get his vision together.
"Yeah, no, these are for the yearbook.",Wendy said, holding up the camera. "And I have to turn them in tomorrow to make a deadline, and like, I doubt a shot of Stacy Kobayashi's camel toe's gonna make it in there, especially without Mr Smith questioning it."
"Really?",Kevin said. "Cause I'd buy two."
He and Jason laughed while Carrie and Wendy looked at each other, though Carrie looked more annoyed and somewhat disgusted, more so towards Kevin.
"Number 23, your order's ready.",a voice said from a small intercom near the food eating area.
"That's us.",Kevin said as he and Jason got up from the table and made their way to the counter, chuckling and exchanging jabs at each other on the way.
Carrie sighed as she looked at Wendy. "I'm so sorry. Kevin can get so out of control, you know?"
Wendy rolled her eyes. "Yeah, based on what you told me, and how long I've hung around him, I can tell.",she said, chuckling. "In fact, let me just say, he'd drive me crazy, like literally.",she added, causing Carrie to chuckle a bit.
"Yeah, he would.",Carrie replied, before sighing. "Honestly, he's been driving me crazy recently…it's not like you and…Jason…"
"I'm sorry you gotta deal with that.",Wendy said sympathetically, though she tensed up a bit at the mention of Jason, but she immediately shrugged it off.
"I mean, I still dunno how you can put up with him...Like I said, no way I could.",Wendy said.
"Like, you know how much of a control freak I can be…no way I can handle that…",she stated, chuckling, as she and Carrie looked at the boys near the counter, who were checking all of the food laid on trays. Carrie sighed as she turned around to face Wendy.
"Hey, you ok?",Wendy asked in concern, as she noticed Carrie looking a bit uncomfortable, or hesitant, like she wanted to say something.
"You can still keep secrets, right?",Carrie asked as she leaned a bit closer to Wendy.
"Come on Carrie, you know me. When have I ever anyone about your secrets? You still haven't told anyone about mine right?",Wendy said to her best friend, smiling.
Carrie shook her head before returning a half smile at Wendy. Ever since they met at the start of high school and became best friends rather quickly, on top of hanging out together every week, as well as doing a lot stuff together and having some similar interests, Carrie and Wendy had also treated the other as one of their go to people whenever they needed to get something off their chest or spill any secrets they don't want other people knowing. And they've always trusted each other to keep it between them, especially since they've always provided each other comfort over their secrets and frustrations, and to this day, neither of them have said anything about their private conversations to anyone.
Despite that though, Carrie hesitated a bit as she looked at Kevin and Jason for a moment, then back to Wendy.
"I'm breaking up with him.",she finally spoke, taking Wendy aback as she wasn't expecting that.
"You are?",she said, surprised.
Carrie nodded. "A couple weeks, after graduation. I've been wanting to for a while, but…I figured that, since Kevin's heading off for UNLV, I'd do it then."
"Wendy..",Carrie said with a nervous tone as she clutched Wendy's hands. "Please don't say anything to him or Jason.",she pleaded. "I haven't told either of them about-"
"Uh, sure. Sure. I won't.",she quickly said, to which Carrie slowly sighed in relief. Though a sudden thought popped Wendy's mind. "Wait, are you seeing someone else? Cause if so, why didn't you-"
"No, nothing like that.",Carrie immediately said. "I mean, you would've known already if I did, but…you know how Kevin is, and all that high school fun's over for me. I mean, I still love fun as much as the next person, but…now I gotta find a real man, you know…someone I can actually have a future with…",she explained, a bit dryly.
"Not with some…immature goofball who...you know, thinks they can just skate through life on crude jokes and some boyish charm, and will probably just flirt with the first college who*e they see at UNLV and forget about "She who must not be named as he was once faithful to.." back home…",Carrie added, chuckling a bit, though it didn't sound genuine, rather a bit more uncomfortable.
Wendy couldn't help but smile a bit at that attempt of a Harry Potter reference Carrie had made, considering how much of a Harry Potter fanatic she was and how she always tried to sneak one into her conversations with Wendy here and there, but aside from that, she understood Carrie's point, especially since she never really liked Kevin herself. They may have hung out together a lot, but Wendy figured it was only because of Jason being Wendy's boyfriend, and Carrie being Kevin's girlfriend, as well as Carrie and Wendy being best friends, just like how Jason and Kevin were. Without Jason or Carrie, Wendy and Kevin wouldn't have any clue who the other was, let alone hang out at all, especially since Wendy couldn't recall one time when it was just her and Kevin hanging out. Whenever they were around each other, Carrie and Jason were also there. Not to mention how Kevin always seemed to be the opposite of what Wendy liked about Jason; loud, boastful, and almost never took anything seriously. Of course, Jason has told Wendy here and there that Kevin was more thoughtful and intelligent than you think once you get to know him, and Wendy sometimes wondered that he was either like that to Jason, but hides it well around others like her if it was the case, or Jason has a weird view compared to hers' on what considers a person smart and thoughtful, although it was likely the former, since Wendy figured the latter didn't sit completely right with Jason.
But a part of her sometimes wondered if it did, since whenever she's had time to think, she couldn't help but wonder if Kevin really is who Jason says he is, but she then thinks about how Jason always seemed to have the same annoying, unserious energy whenever he and Kevin were around, which while understandable to an extent, since Kevin and Jason had been best friends since they were kids in elementary school, meaning Jason's spent more time in his life with Kevin than he did with Wendy, she still couldn't help but feel irritated by it. Though, she's never really said anything since she didn't want to come off as controlling or anything like that, since she was already a control freak when it came to managing her life, but she didn't want it to impact any of her relationships too, at least not in a negative way. However, she sometimes wondered if either Jason or Kevin had noticed her looking distasteful here and there, whenever she was around them goofing off. On top of how busy she is throughout her life, it was really hard for her to properly take the time to get to know Kevin properly. But she knew for sure that if she and Jason never got together, she wouldn't have any excuse or reason to even acknowledge Kevin if she only knew him as one of her classmates.
"I mean, I guess I still love him, but I just can't be with him anymore…you know…? I got my future to think of, and…I don't wanna waste it waiting for him for like, four or five years…",Carrie stated, though with a bit of discomfort in her tone.
"I get it. I get it.",Wendy replied, trying to reassure Carrie.
A part of Wendy wanted to tell Carrie about how she told her so, in regards to her disdain for Kevin, but she bit her tongue as it wasn't the time right now, and she'd feel like a bit*h for doing so. She was trying to comfort her friend, not gloat about something like they were arguing and she said something that had Carrie beat.
"Yeah...I know you do.",Carrie said, sighing.
Wendy tried to look natural, but she couldn't help but feel uncomfortable as Carrie said that, especially since what she said before had mirrored her current situation with Jason, not to mention, Carrie knew that Wendy was also planning to break up with Jason after graduation, even though her relationship with him wasn't anything like Carrie's relationship with Kevin. Despite Jason coming off as a popular, handsome bad boy jock towards some people in McKinley, even to Wendy at one point, she realised that he was genuinely a good natured guy after spending enough time with him, aside from all the goofing off he can do here and there, but it never really went to Kevin's level, or at least, her interpretation of how far Kevin can go, which was mostly based on what Carrie told her about him. At first, she didn't really expect herself to be around Jason much ever since they started high school, let alone saw herself in a relationship with him. While they've had some good moments here and there, it was mostly whenever they were partnered up for school projects or had bumped into each other in the hallways or around McKinley, so things didn't really change much all the way up until 11th grade.
As Jason had been trying to win over Wendy at the time, she sometimes couldn't help but wonder why out of all the girls in McKinley, especially at least half of the girls in McKinley high school who wanted him, he still chose Wendy. She wasn't even trying to impress him or anyone, or seek for attention or anything, especially since unlike her other classmates, she wasn't worried about her looks or her weight or anything like that, which is what some of the jocks in her school seemed to prefer when it came to girls, or at least that's what Wendy thought at the time. She didn't have anything against that though, she just genuinely wasn't interested in giving too much thought towards her appearance, despite how beautiful she naturally looked towards a good amount of boys in her school, and as some girls would say whenever they've talked to her to here and there, though they never really judged her too much for her lifestyle, just like how she never judged them for theirs. Some others would still judge her, but she never really cared, though there were a few times where Wendy was more considerate about her looks or her body, if not as considerate as the average girl in her school, but that was mostly for more important matters, like her interview regarding her application for Yale, while other times, she didn't care and just went on with her life.
And as for Jason, It's not that she disliked him or anything, since while he did seem annoying here and there at first, she felt like he didn't always seem like a total immature goofball, and more like an alright guy on the inside, based on the little interactions they've had. Unlike Kevin, at least based on what Carrie had told her after she and him got together over the summer after 10th grade. Wendy hadn't even met Kevin at the time, or maybe she did but didn't realise it was the same guy Carrie was talking about, but regardless, she already found him irritating, while Carrie on the other hand, at least at the time, found him great. Wendy had always thought about how Kevin didn't seem right for Carrie, and she always voiced her concerns for Carrie as well as her disdain towards Kevin, though it never really harmed her friendship with Carrie, aside from her constantly telling Wendy that she was just jealous she wasn't in a relationship herself whenever they talked about Kevin. Although it wasn't that she was jealous, Wendy just wasn't interested in a relationship at the time, and she genuinely didn't like Kevin either. Though while she did want to be with someone eventually, she figured maybe it was better if she focused on her life first, making sure that she got everything figured out before she finds someone who she can also share her future with.
The day Jason won her over was the day her plans changed. While she didn't want to admit it at the time, there was something she had grown to like about him. Maybe it was his determination towards her, although Wendy once thought that once Jason sets his mind on something, he won't change it. At first, she wanted to know what it was like to be in a relationship, rather than just know what it's like from Carrie's experiences, but she had soon grown to genuinely love him, just as much as he loved her. Though while their relationship rarely had any problems, compared to Carrie and Kevin's, which got more obvious by the 12th grade, it did get more complicated overtime, and them heading to different colleges that were far away from each other wasn't gonna make things any better for either of them, at least that's what Wendy had figured.
While she did love him, and knew that Jason loved her, and at one point, even considered that possibility of going all the way with him, she was too practical to think about the possibility of him not staying faithful during the time they're separated, and she already knew she was gonna have a lot on her plate to deal with throughout Yale, and rarely enough time to deal with the complexity of a long distance relationship. Not to mention how Jason wanted to head to UNLV for partying and having fun, while Wendy wanted to have everything properly planned out for Yale, which gave her a worrying thought. The possibility of her and Jason slowly resenting each other because of that, and she didn't want that to happen, let alone deal with whatever drama that could occur in their relationship because of that. She can handle a lot of complicated things, but even a control freak like her can only be capable of so much. Maybe Jason would actually stay faithful to her during the time they're separated, but Wendy still couldn't help but feel worried enough to think about the alternative, which was why she thought about ending her relationship with him during graduation, and also in order to maintain some form of control. It pained her to even think about it, but she couldn't think of any better ideas, which pained her more. The fact that she couldn't think of a good or a better way to solve this.
Suddenly, she was snapped out of her thoughts as she heard Kevin chuckling in awe as he and Jason approached the table with their drinks and snacks, with Kevin holding the tray with one hand.
"Ok, now that shot there? I guarantee you, that's gonna sell some yearbooks.",Kevin said as he pointed to a game booth across the midway with his free thumb.
Wendy and Carrie looked over to the booth where Kevin was pointing at, and near it, surrounded by, probably a dozen teenage boys, were two of the most popular girls in McKinley High School, Ashley Freund and Ashlyn Halaprin. The girls were excitedly chatting with each other while they sat on vintage stools, holding machine shaped water guns, trying to shoot into the mouths of leering, plastic clown faces, with balloons sticking out on top of the clown heads, getting bigger as more water was shot into their mouths. While some of the boys seemed to be focused on the game, the majority of them were focused on the girls themselves, as they were known to be notoriously gorgeous throughout the school, and they weren't wrong. Sleek and nearly flawless, especially during their days as cheerleaders for McKinley High's football team, sometimes being known as the most beautiful and cheery of them all as they cheered on the whole team during practice or actual games.
Although the boys were, without a doubt, more focused on the girls' perky butts as well as their g strings sticking out of their matching sagging pants of their tracksuits that they were wearing tonight. Other girls would've felt uncomfortable, but not these two. They loved the male gaze, despite not trying to get boys to look at them or being thirsty for attention, considering the girls were more focused on the game as they chatted with each other excitedly as the cloud of boys behind them kept staring at them.
Wendy groaned as she looked up at Kevin. "So you want me to be a total who*e?",she asked.
"Come on, you know that's a good shot for the yearbook.",Kevin said, chuckling, receiving an eye roll from Wendy and a disgusted look from Carrie that he didn't notice.
"Wait here.",Wendy said as she got up from the table, camera in hand. "And I'm not saving one for you if that's what you're thinking.",she added, pointing at Kevin, who just kept chuckling.
"Come on, go, go, go, go, go!",Ashley said, as she kept holding down the trigger for the water gun.
"Oh my god, Ashley, you're winning! You're totally winning!",Ashlyn excitedly exclaimed beside her.
"Am I winning?",Ashley asked.
"Yeah! Hurry!",Ashlyn encouraged.
"Ok, come on, come on, come on, come on!"
Meanwhile, Wendy had made her way to the side of the booth, and figured she could get a picture down the row of guns from there. She also thought that she could get some of the boys behind the Ashes in the shot too, to show that they were more interested in them rather than the game. For a moment, a part of her even thought how funny it would be when those creeps are looking through their yearbooks a decade or two from now with their future wives, and they came across a picture like this. She couldn't help but chuckle a bit as she thought about all the fights and questions that could happen years from now, and how it would serve them right. Though she immediately shook those thoughts off as Ashley's balloon could pop at any second, considering how big it was compared to the others. She had to take the shot now before she lost her chance. Wendy raised the camera and framed the shot till it was perfect enough for her to get the Ashes and some of the boys behind them in.
"Am I winning? Look around, I don't wanna look!",Ashley said.
"You're totally winning!",Ashlyn replied as she looked at all the other balloons for a split second.
Wendy was about to squeeze the button and take the shot, but out of the corner of her eye, she noticed how the gaping clown heads looked similar to some of the "drooling" boys behind the Ashes. There it was again. Something weird that rubbed Wendy the wrong way. She assumed it was just the usual feeling of disgust, or something similar to that, but weirdly, it didn't feel like it. It felt more like something eerie, or disturbing? Was it the way the clown heads looked? Like how their widened eyes and their large gaping mouths made them look like they were screaming or shocked about something? That sudden thought made her feel a bit tense as she kept her gaze on the clown heads, since she had shifted her focus towards them rather than taking the picture.
"Come on, come on, come on, come on! Don't look! Come on! Oh my god! I'm winning! I'm winning!",the Ashes kept exchanging excitedly between each other as they kept their fingers on the water guns' triggers.
Suddenly, a loud bang went off, snapping Wendy out of her thoughts as she looked up to see that Ashley's crown balloon had popped, causing sirens to blare to life as the Ashes jolted from their stools and shrieked in excitement, clapping and raising their hands ecstatically before pulling each other into a hug while the boys behind them were clapping enthusiastically and cheering as if the Ashes had won an Oscar.
The booth attendant then came over and was motioning to all the prizes on the wall, which were mostly posters, featuring Kurt Cobain, Aayilah, Dale Earnhardt, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Jim Morrison, Elvis Presley, Tupac Shakur, Selena, etc. Although as the Ashes looked indecisive about the prizes, Wendy felt a shiver again as there was something eerie about the posters to her, like there was something that connected all the celebrities in them together, but she couldn't figure out what it was.
Ashley then snubbed the posters and pointed at a large inflatable palm tree, to which the booth attendant then shrugged and went over to get it from its shelf, handing it over to the Ashes as they held their hands out for it like a couple children waiting for their parents to give them money.
"That was so awesome, Ashley!",Ashlyn congratulated her best friend as they took the palm tree and held it together.
"Ashley, Ashlyn.",Wendy called out to them as she turned the camera up towards them. The Ashes looked over to her and posed with wide smiles as they held the palm tree with them.
The camera flash went off as Wendy squeezed the button, snapping a picture of the Ashes as they held the palm tree close. As Wendy lowered the camera, Ashley and Ashlyn then let out another victory whoop as they held the palm tree over their heads, before they locked arms with each other and walked off, like they always do, while the horde of drooling boys followed behind them like dogs.
While she may not have been able to get the shot that she wanted, Wendy figured a picture of the girls themselves looking like they were having the time of their lives was good enough. Obviously she had to include them in the yearbook, but for a moment, she figured that maybe in the future, assuming they're still best friends by then, they could always be looking back through their yearbooks and stumble across this picture, and get a wave of nostalgia. The thought wasn't as funny as the idea of some of those boys with their future wives coming across a picture of them staring at the Ashes, and it's probably not as likely to happen, but she could see it happening, and it wasn't a complete loss. Maybe it could be a little wholesome too if I did happen.
Wendy then examined the photo on her camera, with Ashley and Ashlyn in the centre of the photo as they held the palm tree, but much to her dismay, the flashing red lights of the booth's sirens had covered the Ashes with a fiery red orange aura, blocking out all of the detail. While she was annoyed at first, she then shivered a bit as she noticed that picture made the girls look like they were on fire, and Ashlyn's eyes were barely visible in the photo too, but she then shook it off as she exited the camera's archives. She sighed as she wasn't really having much luck as she expected with her pictures tonight. Maybe it was better if she left the camera at home, like Jason suggested the other day. But she shrugged it off as she brought it with her anyway, not much she could do about it now.
"Did you get it?",Kevin asked as Wendy made her way back to the table while he and Jason finished up their snacks.
"Yeah, but not for you.",Wendy replied, as she held the camera up for a moment before lowering it.
"You want a piece of them? Get in line with all the other boys back there. Assuming you haven't forgotten your girlfriend's right here.",Wendy stated sarcastically with a grin, causing Jason to stifle a laugh as his mouth was full, while Carrie full on laughed.
"Oh, ha, ha, ha.",Kevin sarcastically remarked with a slight grin.
"Maybe we could get a picture of you and Carrie.",Jason suggested. "You both got something in common with those girls, know what I mean?"
Wendy and Carrie scoffed. "Yeah, except we don't dress like we want every boy on our asses just to look at them, let alone spend most of our time obsessing over makeup and looks and all that.",Carrie retorted, getting a chuckle from Jason and Wendy.
Once the boys finished their snacks, the group then made their way to where the entrance to Devil's flight was, and on the way, they came across a guy in a suit dancing to disco music like a partygoer, and Kevin couldn't help but join in for a bit as he busted his own moves, to which the partygoer approved of. Jason, Wendy and Carrie couldn't help but find the whole thing amusing as they walked by, and Wendy slowly released herself from Jason's arm over her to pull out her camera, with a grin on her face as she planned to record a video of the whole thing. As Kevin kept dancing with the partygoer like they were at a club with Jason and Carrie watching in amusement, Wendy lined up her camera till it was at a perfect angle, and was about to hit the record button, until suddenly, a trio of girls had walked in front of her, blocking her shot as they watched the scene in front of them, amused.
"Excuse me.",Wendy called out to them.
The girls then turned around and their smiles slowly faded as they looked at Wendy, who didn't look surprised, but definitely was surprised as she recognised them as Amber Regan, Perry Malinowski, and Wendy's little sister Julie. All three of them were juniors at McKinley High School, and they weren't supposed to be here, and yet they were.
"You three aren't seniors. What are you doing here?",Wendy asked them, though her gaze was more focused on Julie.
"Having fun. At least until you showed up.",Julie replied sarcastically, followed by her, Perry and Amber chuckling.
Wendy rolled her eyes. "Been here longer than you sis, in more ways than one. Like how I'm supposed to be here. You aren't."
"Well what are you gonna do, Mrs. Cutest couple? Huh?",Julie retorted, with smug looks on her and her friends' faces.
"Mom know you're here Julie? You're not a senior but you are grounded, aren't you?.",Wendy replied with a half grin, causing Julie's own grin to falter.
"Tell her, and you'll be a complete bit*h in my eyes.",Julie spat, while Kevin kept dancing with the partygoer.
"Where does she think you are anyways?",Wendy asked out of curiosity. "Let me guess, at Perry's house?"
"What's it to you anyway?",Amber asked, in defense of Julie, while Perry looked a bit more tense.
"She's my sister, we got the same mom and dad, and we live in the same house. That good enough?",Wendy retorted, slightly grinning while Julie rolled her eyes.
Wendy usually didn't get on well with Julie's friends, let alone Julie herself. The Christensen sisters have had their good moments here and there, but Wendy's control freak nature, as Julie described it as at one point, generally didn't clash well with her little sister's over the top carefree nature, as Wendy described at another point. And things didn't get better between them when Wendy and Carrie hung out more, which irritated Julie, since Wendy would hang out more with her friend rather than her sister, even though Julie would never admit it to her. Though it was mostly because while Carrie was carefree here and there, like with Kevin, she seemed to have more responsibility and control over herself than Julie did. Though Jason was a different story as Julie thought he was a goofy moron, which usually wasn't the type of people Wendy wanted to be around, as Julie assumed, and yet somehow, she spent more time with him than her, which further irritated Julie, especially whenever she felt like doing something with Wendy for once, only for her to be out with Jason. Wendy was never aware of this, just like how Julie wasn't aware that Wendy felt the same way whenever she hangs out with her best friends Perry and Amber, even more so when Wendy genuinely feels like doing something with Julie, only for her to go out with her friends, although she wouldn't admit it either, though at least not to Julie's face as she thought she'd rip on her for it.
"Well, for the record,",Julie said. "Our dates are seniors, in case you were wondering."
"I wasn't. But if so, where are they?",Wendy asked.
"Lost them in the crowd.",Perry said, though rather timidly, while Amber and Julie giggled.
It always felt surprising to Wendy whenever the girl talked, since Perry wasn't really much of a talker to anyone, other than Julie and Amber. Julie then noticed the camera, and her eyes lightened up as she had an idea.
"Doing pictures for the yearbook again?",she asked. "Take a shot of this then!"
Julie then stuck her middle fingers up, flipping Wendy off as Perry and Amber giggled while looking at the camera. Wendy immediately lifted her camera and snapped a shot, and while she wouldn't admit it, she finally got one that was actually interesting. To her at least. Though she definitely would admit to the fact that their parents would be very interested in seeing this, primarily their mother.
"Congratulations Genius. Now I got proof of where you were.",Wendy stated as Julie lowered her hands, her eyes slightly widened.
"Don't you f*king dare tell them Wendy.",Julie spat.
"Try me.",Wendy replied, and she immediately walked past the girls to catch up to her friends, sparing a glance at Julie for a moment, who looked mad, but Wendy also noticed some paranoia in her eyes.
"Your sister rocks, you know that?",Kevin said, chuckling as Wendy caught up to him, Jason and Carrie.
She snorted derisively. "I know that she's a total idiot. She's literally not supposed to be here, and yet she turns up.",Wendy stated as the group kept walking.
As the group walked by a few other rides on their way to Devil's Flight, they looked over to the Ring The Bell Strongman Game and saw Lewis Romero over there, testing his strength as usual, who also seemed to have attracted an audience. He was quite a buff jock, as well as being known as the fullback for McKinley High's football team known as the sultans, along with always fancying himself as a badass, though it usually came off as him having his head up his ass a lot. Lewis held the game's wooden mallet on the plank for a moment as he peered up towards the twenty five foot pole with the bell at the top while the weight shot up towards it, while his girlfriend Veronica was watching from the crowd, almost hidden from all the stuffed animals Lewis had already won from a few other games.
The backing board of the game itself was decorated with different cartoons with different characters. Five foot had a drawing of a skinny nerd, labeled as Pencil Neck Geek. Ten feet resembled an old man in a blue shirt, who looked a bit chubby, and he was labeled as Metro Sexual. Fifteen foot had a guy crying on a pink cloud or a brain of some sort, which was labeled as Crybaby. Twenty foot had another old man, who looked rather beefy and seemed to have a square jaw, wearing a fifties styled sweater, though some people thought he was wearing a suit. He was labeled as a STUD. And at the top, was a muscular man in a suit, labeled with the words; "Ur Da Man!"
"Yeah! That's what I'm talking about!",Lewis cried in victory, jumping up in the air for a moment as he had managed to hit the bell again.
"That's three! That's three, number three~",he said as he did a bit of a victory dance while the crowd watched.
"Hold on. I gotta get this one.",Wendy said as she made her way to the crowd and carefully got through to the front to where Lewis was.
"Oh I'm the man! I'm the man right here~",Lewis kept gloating as Wendy got to the front of the crowd.
This has gotta be a good picture for her to get. At first she thought about taking one of Lewis dancing, but by the time she got to the front of the crowd, he had already stopped and held his hand out like he was expecting a high five.
"Man gimme some right here! Gimmie some right here!",Lewis called out to the crowd.
"Right here! Right here!",a random guy with a stuffed snake around his neck called out from the crowd as he held his hand up in the air, expecting to get a high five.
"Man whatchu doing?",Lewis asked, in a tone that came off as threatening, taking the man aback as he lowered his hand.
"Man get the f*k back, man I'm telling you I am good!",he gloated as the man stepped back a bit while Lewis turned around and made his way back to the game, with the mallet still in his hand.
"Here we go, I'm telling you right now~",Lewis said as Wendy had crouched down to get a better angle, so that she could get both Lewis and the game in the shot.
As Wendy had lined up the shot, Lewis had set his feet like a golfer near the plank lever. He was rubbing his hands together to get the best grip, before pounding his chest with his fist and then kissed his index and middle finger and pointed them up towards the bell, for whatever reason.
"Here we go baby…three for three, it's all mine…",he quietly said, as he was preparing himself to smash down onto the lever, while Wendy was preparing herself to take the shot.
"Here we go, here we go, big prize, watch out, come on…!",Lewis said as he waggled his fingers on the handle of the mallet, before raising it over his head, and with a roar of a buffalo, he smashed the mallet down onto the plank with all his might.
The second he hit the plank, Wendy had snapped her camera, hoping she had caught the action. Though she then looked up at the sound of the bell clanging, and saw that the bell had been sheared off of the pole entirely, and it was falling past the giant demon statue in front of Devil's Flight. As the crowd looked at the bell in astonishment, Lewis let out a victory whoop as he saw the bell go up in the air.
"That's what I'm talking about~!",he said as he did another victory dance. "That's what we gonna get, that's what we gonna get!"
Wendy would've taken a picture of Lewis doing his victory dance, but her focus was elsewhere. First the bell, and then the giant Devil statue in front of Devil's Flight as the bell flew past it, followed by loud screams echoing in the air. She looked at the statue warily, like it was planning something, and the speaker inside the sculpture making cackling noises didn't help reassure her, or help her get rid of that eerie feeling that she started feeling again. While she mostly just assumed it was just her being nervous about boarding Devil's Flight, given her disdain towards rollercoasters, a part of her couldn't help but think about the possibility of it being something else, like it wasn't just a weird fear or anything, it was a warning. It sounded ridiculous to her, but she couldn't help but feel disturbed by it.
"Wendy?",another voice suddenly called out to her, snapping her out of her headspace.
She turned over to where the voice was coming from, and saw Veronica standing in front of her, carrying a lot of stuffed animals, with a giant purple and pink stuffed teddy bear now added to the pile as Lewis had won it from the Ring The Bell Game. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Kevin and Jason high fiving Lewis as Carrie made her way to her and Veronica. One of the game attendants were walking over to grab the bell off the ground, looking grumpy while the rest of the crowd that Lewis had attracted had soon dispersed.
"You look a bit tense..",Veronica pointed out, as she noticed Wendy looking a bit on edge, though Wendy didn't realise herself, but she immediately tried to look natural as Veronica said that.
"I'm fine, I'm fine.",she quickly replied. "You need help with those?",she asked Veronica, wanting to change the subject.
"Oh yeah, yeah, please.",Veronica said, her voice sounding a bit tired, as Wendy stuffed her camera into her pocket and took a third of the stuffed animals off Veronica's hands, giving the girl room to breathe.
"I don't mind carrying stuff for Lewis and all, but I can only carry so much, you know?",she stated as Carrie then offered to take another third, which Veronica immediately accepted.
"Got a date with destiny soon. Gotta get going.",Jason said, excitedly as the girls made their way to the boys.
"Destiny? Some new girl you seeing on the side, or are you and Wendy over?",Lewis asked, a bit confused.
"I'm right here, you know.",Wendy stated, catching Lewis off guard as he cleared his throat, trying to play it cool, while Veronica and Kevin chuckled.
"To Devil's flight baby!",Kevin cried as he pointed to the ride. "Me and you Jay, ten times, remember? First to throw up loses.",he added, earning a chuckle from Jason.
"You're gross you know that?",Carrie said, as Lewis took the stuffed animals off of her and Wendy, giving Kevin the chance to hang his arm around Carrie, who reluctantly took it.
"You ready for this Wednesday?",Jason said as he hung his arm over Wendy.
"As ready as I'll ever be…I guess…",she nervously replied.
Wendy, Jason, Kevin, Carrie, Lewis and Veronica all made their way towards the entrance to Devil's Flight. A bunch of other people had also made their way towards the entrance, wanting to get in line before it got any bigger. A bunch of seniors from McKinley High School had also made their way towards the entrance.
"YOU CAN RUN…BUT YOU CANNOT HIDE!",the speakers of the giant devil statue in front of Devil's flight suddenly said in a crackly electronic voice, followed by another evil cackle.
While the group laughed at the usual cheesiness the statue had to offer, underneath all the laughing, Wendy couldn't help but shudder as that same eerie feeling returned…
