“What?” Shanks darts his head to the young boy sitting beside him, hopeless and taken aback.
“You’re always sad,” Luffy frowns, straining to think of a time he saw the man smile and not fake it. “You’re happy with me, so let's get married! You can be happy all the time!”
The man looks disgusted, then thinks for a moment. Luffy’s special. Although naive and young, he will grow into a fine man who has laughed, cried, and learned from his hardships, joys, and quiet, solemn moments. If the starry-eyed boy still wants him by the time he’s an adult, then Shanks will consider it, but for now. Shanks grimaces as Luffy smiles at him, warm and radiant. He’s just a snot-nosed kid.
“I will marry Shanks!” Luffy stands up, leans in to the man, now at eye level, and draws an X on his chest. “I swear, with all my heart. We can be together! I can protect you! What makes you sad?! I can stop it!”
“Whatever you say, Lu,” Shanks lifts a skeptical brow and drinks. Eh, what the hell? He is in no rush; time, after all, is in surplus for demons.
