Chapter 2: Omake chapter

Summary:

Omake extra bonus chapter

Chapter Text

Daishou was tired but content. The wedding was everything he could have wished for. For starters, Mika hadn’t suddenly decided to leave. Not that she actually would, but he’d been so nervous these past few weeks and several of his nightmares liked to point out it was very possible.

Mika’s father, a rotund man who had taken approximately five years to accept him as a boyfriend to his only daughter (and would probably take another ten to call him son-in-law), threw an arm over his shoulder, his face showing that the alcohol bill would end up in the upper part of their budget estimates.

“Suguru, my boy. Excellent party. Excellent.”

“Thank you…father. I’m glad you’re having fun. Mika and I are very happy.”

“Good good. I must say, your friends are very generous. I didn’t imagine such a good turnout for you. Volleyball players and all. Come look, come look.”

Daishou nodded and smiled, even though he had no idea what his father in law was talking about. Certainly, he was sure his friends hadn’t been too stingy, but none of them were what he’d call wealthy. He let himself be pulled towards the donation table, where Mika and her mother were talking. Gods, he had the most beautiful and kind wife. He was so lucky.

“Ah, Suguru, look at this huge donation. I didn’t know you were that close.”

Daishou looked at the elaborate note. The sum was obscene and the card exquisite. The text made him scowl in a most non-wedding appropriate manner. .

‘From a happily married couple to another. Do give us a call if you need advice.’
Kuroo & Kenma

Notes:

Inspiration includes Nekoma-centric HQ-Bu, most notably the chapter where Kuroo interrupts Daishou’s date and the one where Kuroo tries to promote volleyball online. Plus many many other references of which I have linked several below for fun.

Kuroo interrupting Daishou’s date (1, 2)

Kuroo and the holding up a volleyball online

The special match

Chapter 402.3 (1, 2)

Kuroo writing his name on his things

The krkn promise

Haikyuu exhibition goods BB greeting towel (no longer for sale; only used as reference picture)

Krkn mint joke

Kuroo’s vball tie

Yaku later playing in Poland
(This info came out after Being Partners was written, so that text mentions Yaku playing for Chekaterina Russia)

Trivia: the Nekokarasu match took place Nov 17th, Kuroo’s birthday.

Hikarigaoka Park is a large park in Nerima. Based on some map surfing and distance from the kuroken bridge, I imagine it could be likely picnic spot for them going by bike.

Not 100% sure when the 3D billboards in Tokyo became a thing, but I have a distinct picture in my head of Daishou scowling, looking up at Kenma blinking like a cat at the top of the building (see 3D billboard at Shinjuku of a cats playing and many others).

(Now I’m thinking Kenma’s carving on the tree could have been “Partners 10 year anniversary appointment” and Kuroo definitely cried when he saw it later.)
