Chapter Text
Ben slowly applied the nail polish, he doesn't know why he's being so careful since the whole reason he's putting it on is to chip it later.
He's going to have a very awkward talk with Grandpa tomorrow related to what happened with..... Big Chill a year ago.
He doesn't really like to think about it but since a few days there's been this tugging feeling in his heart like something isn't right, for some reason his mind is telling him it's got something to do with the 'lil chills' as Gwen and Kevin had dubbed the small moths that were Big Chill's kids and by extension.......his.
"Let's hope those three take the news ok. Actually it'd be a miracle if Azmuth even showed up." Ben fanned his hand up and down to try and make to polish dry faster.
A knock was heard "Ben come downstairs please." His father said.
"Coming, just give me a minute!"
He carefully opened the door to not smuge the polish, just because he was going to be picking at it doesn't mean it should look bad ok? He got downstairs and saw his parents on the couch with a space between them where he'd fit perfectly.
He sat down in the space and waited for them to talk or turn on the TV, they were going to watch a movie tonight. A small family bonding session at least 2 times a month, it was his dad's idea.
"Ben." His mother broke the silence.
"Yeah mom?"
"Is there anything you want to talk about? You've been very restless the past few days."
"And we aren't referring to your ADHD." His dad added.
"Well um, there is something. It's related to one of my aliens, but I'll be clearing things up with grandpa first before telling you two." It's no use keeping it a secret, they'd be finding out tomorrow or the day after anyways. He had made a promise to them to talk more often about alien related stuff.
"Why can't you tell us now?"
"It's something Grandpa is familiar with, I think. But I know he'd be able to find an appropriate way to tell you two without causing you to freak out too much."
"Is it serious?" His mother looked so worried.
"Human terms? Yes. But it's pretty complicated too, I don't have the right words to explain it just yet."
"So you'll be having dad as a test run? Also we're telling you in advance if it's serious don't expect us to not freak out kiddo." His dad ruffled his hair.
"Basically, that's why I said not freak out too much instead of not freak out. I fully expect you to freak out but hopefully I'll get some advice on how to soften the blow." He leaned against the cushion and backrest.
"Good to know you're willing to tell us at least." His mother held his hand, unfortunately that ended up smudging the polish.
"Since when did you wear nail polish?"
"Won it in a raffle and thought to try it on."
"Dear then explain why it's the exact same green you've always liked? You liking cosmetics and makeup is the least of our worries since you're a space cop who deals with strong criminals on a monthly basis."
"Fine~ you got me, just think it looks neat and gose well with the rest of my get up." Ben laughed, a little upset at the smudging but that's to be expected since he spent nearly 15 minutes trying to make it look good.
"I'll fix up this paint job after the movie and give you some tips."
"So what movie tonight?" His dad brought out a couple handfuls of DVDs.
"How about........ Alien from 1979?" Ben held up the DVD.
His parents looked at each other and then back at their son.
"What? It's historically important in the sci-fi genre."
