Chapter Text
Tim lounged around the base, after spending hours getting the base ready, spreadsheets sheeted and plans planned he and the rest of the group were exhausted. A blur of auburn orange and gust of air later he had a green eyed speedster at his side. “Do we have to do this every year? It’s so exhausting!!!” Bart complained. “Bart, stop complaining!” Cassie said from the opposite couch, Cissie leaning against her side rolled her eyes. “Im not even a vigilante or hero anymore, if i have to do this so do you fluffy” Cissie teased. “Fluffy! I'm not a dog” Bart says, sticking out his tongue. As the group delves in playful banter, Tim notices Anita staring at a picture of the team from years ago. He walks over to her laying a hand on her shoulder, “you okay ‘Nita?” Anita places the picture back down on the shelf, “yeah, i just miss him. Him and his stupid little face” The group gets quiet, the missing presence aching like a snapped rubber band. The pain is a throbbing ache, leaving a feeling of wrongness. “If only we could find him?” Kon muses “darkseid has sent many people in time” kon chuckles humorlessly. Greta closed her book, she takes her studies very seriously, and tilted her head. “Tim? You said that Bruce was hit by an omega beam right? Could it be that slobo was also transported somewhere? He could be alive somewhere” The rest of the teams turned and looked at Greta, mouth open in shock. Greta blushed, “Did I say something wrong?” Bart jumped up “Gretayouragenius!!Wecansavesloboandwecandochristmastogetherasateam!!!!!” The team was an excited mess, Cassie stood up “Attention!”. The room fell silent “If we're going to do this we have to do this properly. We’ll need to vote on things and create a plan. Raise your hand if you want to add something.” Kon raised his hand, “yes kon”. Kon-el walked over to the whiteboard that Bart had brought in during the madness, “i vote to dub this the sloboquest after our beloved vice-leaders batmanquest.” “Aye!” “Aye!” “No!” Tim said the Brucequest was not a real word. Nor a real mission, it was a rough time in my life fueled by my grief.” “Stop” Greta stated angrily. “Do not downplay your grief or the hardships you faced because of it, yes you were grief stricken but you were right. And the justice league should’ve helped you whether it was therapy or going along and listening to what you had to say to humor you as you coped. My psychology textbooks describe this as “a manifestation of denial but also cognitive dissonance. Your morals and reality says that he couldn’t have been alive and everyone told you to give up but logically with the evidence provided you knew that he wasn’t dea..d…. Are you okay? You're giving me a weird look.” Tim shook his head, snapping himself out of his thoughts. “Sorry I just wasn’t prepared to be psychoanalyzed today.” Kon looked between the two “Majority votes says this is still going to be named the sloboquest.” Tim sighed heavily “fine, but where would we even start looking if we don't have the evidence that I had with Bruce.” Everyone stopped and thought for a minute, Bart whipped out his phone typing at lightning speed “so you know how I've been talking to Thad since that big argument we had.” Everyone murmurs in agreement. “He mentioned that when Wally threw him through the speedforce he saw a statue in the mount justice base that looked suspiciously like slobo.” Cissie spoke the question that was on everyone’s mind “Have you guys been getting along? Like he’s not trying to kill you anymore.” Bart looked up from his phone “yeah, we’ve agreed that we’re different but we’ve been telling all my friends and stuff that he’s my twin that was kidnapped and that’s why he's not good around strangers but he spent time with max and even brought him back so max oversees our arguments to make sure we don't get into scuffles or accidentally travel into the speedforce again.” A ding broke the silence Bart checked his phone and smiled “Just got a message back from Thad, its in like 832 century he thinks the century’s blur in the speedforce” The team looks around at each other “time travel it is then huh” Cassie says “well looks like it’s time to get young justice back togther again. Like the old days” “like the old days!!” The team choruses back. “No mourners” Cassie and Tim say, mimicking the motto they used to say. “No funerals” the group solemnly states. A silence settles ove the group. After a few minutes a loud honk could be heard out of the room, followed by two smaller honks. The team exchanges glances before grabbing weapons.
