Chapter Text
~•Rumi•~
The room was dim, the tv playing a muffled half finished movie. On the couch: 2 bodies are softly curled up on the couch. I’m standing in the doorway, tired from my training. {I didn't tell them I'd be late. They didn't wait.}
*[They didn't mean it. They never do.]*
A half finished popcorn bowl on the coffee table with 2 empty glass cups. Zoey is fast asleep on Mira's chest, Zoey's blanket on Mira, Mira's wrapped around Zoey. Mine nowhere to be found.
*[Not needed, apparently.]*
I swallow the lump in my throat and try to slowly creep towards the kitchen.
"Try".
Mira stirs in her sleep hearing the noise. "Rumi?" She calls out drowsy, rubbing her eyes and sitting up, careful not to wake Zoey who was seemingly fast asleep. "Yeah?" I squeak, a bit startled. "I’m just grabbing some water." "You just arrive?" Zoey joins in, voice muffled. "Sorry Rumi. Must've passed out." She laughs, warm and airy. It always made my heart flutter but now I only feel an ache.
Mira rubs her eyes."We were going to wait—well tried. But Zoey kept getting all warm and snuggly" "Guilty!" laughs Zoey. "It's fine," I lie. "Didn’t mean to wake you guys." I flash a small smile. "You guys look comfy. Don't let me disturb you." I say filling my glass with water, the sound filling the empty silence.
"You okay Rumi?" Mira ask. "Yea" I nod "Just tired!"
There's an invitation in their eyes—An empty space on the couch, a hand reaching out. But I don't move. I can't. My legs are frozen in place.
Zoey starts to shift to make room. "C'mere lets-"
"I think I'll take a shower!" I blurt out.
I escape to my room but I can still feel their eyes on me.

Steam engulfs her body as the water hits Rumi’s skin. She welds her eyes closed, heart aching. It's not their fault. It's no big deal. But something keeps whispering. A voice.
|"They don't need you." "They never will."
