Summary
Noelle crept down the hallway of her house in fuzzy pink socks, each step muffled on the thick carpet. The air was thick with the scent of lemon floor cleaner and distant peppermint from the wreath by the front door. Her heart thumped in rhythm. along with a faint, deliberate click… click… click of the old grandfather clock by the stairs.
It was midnight—perfect timing. The world outside was painted in soft blue moonlight and silence. She had her backpack stuffed with snacks, healing items (mostly candy canes that crinkled against each other), and one emergency “sorry I snuck out” apology card pre-signed in glitter ink. She was ready. Susie said the Dark World was calling, and Noelle wasn’t about to miss another adventure, not after last time.
