Summary
In 1866 in Victorian Bath, England, Imogene lives her life in misery, sent to a finishing school at the behest of her unloving father, plagued by haunting visions and the scorn of her classmates, where her only source of joy is her beloved and outspoken best friend, Cordelia. When the gossip in school is that a mysterious sorcerer and his troupe have landed in town, all of the girls are thrilled when a surprise school trip grants them the chance to see him - all except for Imogene, who begins seeing a dark man in her dreams. But is she only mad, like the class bully Helaena insists? Is he really as heroic as everyone says? When Cordie runs away from the abusive school, Imogene has no choice but to flee after her, and soon finds herself in the mythical castle of the sorcerer and under the strange stewardship of his fantastical troupe... but when she reunites with Cordie there, she is acting strangely... along with all of the other young women employed there, serving the men of the troupe. It is only then, too late, that Imogene discovers the sorcerer and his men are not at all what they seem, and something horrible is happening with the castle - and it's up to her to stop it, destroy her captors, and save her best friend.
