Chapter Text
Roses and Vanilla
Chapter 1
A New Spring Day
The sun was warm as it shone through the windows of the omegas upper apartment in the early hours of the morning. He had his face hidden under the covers and buried in his pillow with his hair sticking up in places above the sheets. The omega was cozy in his blankets surrounded by his own scent of roses; though he was happy enough to be encased by his own scent, he wished for more. But it's better than nothing.
Having his scent, the soft rose. It was like a security blanket for him. Now if you thought this story was something sweet, soft and adorable, it is indeed not. For there are somethings in this story that will make you sad, confused or even worried for two characters. But who's to tell you to stop reading? Not me that's for sure.
The omega, who was encased in his scent, let his eyes open to the morning light and poked his head out of his blankets. He let a huff drop from his lips and sighed before sitting up. He patted his hair down from that back and sides before he slipped out of his warm bed and away from the a few feet away from it.
The omega now walking around, started on his morning routine; which consisted of having a shower, brushing his teeth, eating breakfast whilst drinking a cup of tea, brushing his teeth again for extra measure and getting changed in a soft white sweater that was baggy in the sleeves and were almost like bat wings up the arms on him as it was extra big. He wore some jeans and his usual camel coloured timberlands.
He walked down his apartment stairs down to his lower floor flower shop; that hid his scent amazingly well from unknown, unwanted or unfaithful alpha's who walked in for flowers for their mates from time to time, he smiled as he picked up his blue coloured watering can that was big enough for all his gorgeous, pretty flowers to drink well from.
The omega hummed softly as he came to the last flower, a beautiful blood, red rose that sat just by the front door of his shop. If anyone came in and they smelt a rose it would be that one and not him. If you're wondering why he doesn't take scent blockers, well ironically, they don't block his scent, if anything they cause an allergic reaction that causes his own throat to close up. So owning a flower shop with a rose scent is the better option.
The omega turned the sign on the front of his door from it saying 'closed' to it saying 'open'. He looked outside through the glass and saw it was a nice day; the type of day in which it was slightly cloudy but still sunny and warm.
He walked back to the counter and placed the watering can back in the corner and walked around to the normal side he'd stand at the counter. The omega booted up his computer, logged in and then checked his emails for any new orders that had come through overnight.
As he checked over his emails and noted down the new orders and sent replies to the ones finished and ready for pick up he heard his front door open with the sound of the charming, rusty bell chime.
"Hey, Good morning Jeongguk!" A fellow omega known as Seok-Jin but Jeongguk calls him Jin, came in with his alpha mate trailing behind.
"Morning Jeongguk!" The alpha named Namjoon greeted too.
"Oh! Morning you two! What brings you in on this nice morning?" Jeongguk asked as he looked up from what he was writing down.
"Nothing much, we just came back from a small morning walk around the area here, had some breakfast, you know.." Jin smiled as he explained their morning.
"That's good, I'm glad you guys had a good start to your morning" Jeongguk smiled back.
"Jeongguk…how are you doing?" Jin asked softly as looked at the younger with a saddened look.
Jeongguk looked at the two with a somewhat hardened expression before he sighed and let his pen drop to his paper. He knew the two were concerned about him being mateless. They knew about him and his allergy, and his lack of finding his mate as they were close friends, and almost found family.
"I've been doing fine, Jin-hyung, I'm not worried in the slightest… what's the point in worrying about something if you probably won't have it?" Jeongguk gave them a tight lipped smile as he looked back at his paper and picked up his pen to finish writing an order.
"Jeongguk.." Namjoon sighed softly, he knew there was no point in arguing. ".... Look, I got an email this morning about some new residents looking to come into the building across the street from you, you know the other building with two levels with the old tattoo place on the bottom… maybe.."
Jeongguk knew what the other was trying to imply and let out a sigh. "Namjoon-hyung… I don't think.."
"We don't know that," Jin pointed out. "One of them might be your.."
"But one of them might not be and I don't want to risk my safety… you two know this," Jeongguk sighed. "When do they move in?" He asked.
"Tomorrow.. they're traveling from Daegu" Namjoon replied.
"Alright.." Jeongguk nodded. "...Do you guys want a welcoming bouquet for them?" He asked, feeling that he should be nice to the new residents coming, even if he didn't know them or their story.
"You don't have to, but I would be very nice," Jin nodded.
"I can sort something out soon," Jeongguk smiled as he made note of it. "What flowers would you think they would like?"
"Uh.." Namjoon hummed in thought before he just said a few random flowers. "Maybe some roses, baby's breath and…something that will make some colour pop.."
"Blue bells" Jeongguk added under his breath and nodded. "What type of roses..?" He looked up.
"White or…whatever you see fit" Namjoon nodded.
"Okay then" Jeongguk nodded with a smile.
Jin stood for a few seconds before letting out of a sigh. "Jeongguk, would you want to have lunch with us today?"
"I'll have to see.." Jeongguk let out a breath. "I have a few orders to get done today and a few more getting picked up later, so I don't know if I'll have time to go out to eat.. but thank you for the offer though" He smiled.
"No worries.. but just don't forget to eat, okay?" Jin reminded the other.
"I won't," Jeongguk shook his head as he looked back at his emailed orders.
"We'll see you tomorrow to introduce the new residents, okay?" Namjoon gave a thumbs up as he said it.
Jeongguk didn't look at the other as he gave a thumbs up back. "Okay, see you tomorrow"
"Did you hear what I said..?" Namjoon asked as he started to walk to the door with Jin following in his step.
Jeongguk looked at him before sighing. "You'll introduce me to the new residents tomorrow.."
"Good" Namjoon smiled. "See ya later!"
"Bye Namjoon-hyung, bye Jin-hyung!"
"See ya Gguk!" Jin smiled as he waved and walked out the shop making the bell chime with a rusty sound as the door closes behind them.
"..I don't understand why they worry," Jeongguk whispered to himself. "... I can handle myself…"
He sighed lightly before he placed his pen back down and rubbed his face with his hands. "..Well, I say I can.." He laughs to himself sadly.
"I've never had anyone, and I definitely don't need anyone now" Jeongguk nodded to himself as he leant on the desk in front of him and picked up his pen. It was made from an old tree trunk, beautiful yet shows its age.
"..But.." Jeongguk started to think about the conversation prior. "..What if Namjoon-hyung is right though.."
He fiddled with the pen between two fingers as he bit his lip.
"What if… one of them is.. my mate though.." Jeongguk gulped before he shook his head.
"Don't be so hopeful" The omega whispered to himself. "Let's just forget about it.."
Jeongguk shook his head to forget his thoughts of 'What ifs' and 'Could' he didn't want to think about it. He's heard stories of mate rejection; the pain that apparently happens and the loneliness that follows, the once happiest person turns hollow, and then death slowly comes after them. It was slow for mates without marks, faster for those who had one. It's what made him hesitant.
"Now, let's see who needs a bouquet first?" He asked himself as he looked at his list.
"..anndd, an Alpha who wants to propose to his mate.." Jeongguk sighed. "The normal around this time of year.."
Jeongguk then got to work on the bouquet orders for the rest of the day, only stopping to have lunch at around one o'clock before continuing on the rest. The alpha's who needed to pick up orders during the day had come in and paid for the bouquets before leaving again. It only happened every thirty minutes to an hour.
Closing up his shop was something calming for him and his evenings were quiet. He used soft music to break the silence or even sometimes his TV playing softly.
Being alone isn't something new. Tomorrow is a new day. Hopefully it will be better.
