Chapter Text
Sunlight poured through the glass windows, which depicted beautifully drawn art of all the Major Gods. It would be a blessing for a mortal to witness it, even the ones who were completely devoted to worshiping the Gods. He made sure to admire the art every time he walked through the grand, golden hallway. Maybe it was a cheap tactic to waste time, procrastinate on the job he hates the most, the job he was specifically created to do. He shrugged half-heartedly, nothing in the Multiverse could convince him to do his job on time.
"Not even the king himself can tame him."
Oh? A private conversation happening right around the corner?
He smirked, gossip was just as common amongst the Gods as amongst the mortals. It was amusing to him sometimes.
He might as well listen in since he might have an idea of who they were talking about.
"That is of no surprise, he is known to be completely unapproachable. Merciless, cruel. We should steer clear of his path."
"Hard to imagine he is related to his sweet brother. It seems he absorbed all the compassion and emotions when they were created, and nothing but an aloof, non-sentimental being was left behind."
Yep, they were talking about him. He found no interest in the conversation anymore. If they were going to gossip about him, they might as well make it interesting and new.
So, being the person that he is, he rounded the corner and made sure to put on his neutral face, which nobody seemed to be able to look at for very long. He also recognized the two minor Gods. The Goddess of Rivers, Oceans, and Lakes. She was some sort of floating serpent, tail and arm adorned with gold. The other one was the God of Elements. A T-Rex-looking lizard that shapeshifted between elemental forms. He seemed to be in his fire form right now.
"*boo."
I single word seemed to have frightened them. They hastily stammered out apologies and scattered off, amusing the Death God even more.
"*guess they don't like ghosts all too much." He chuckled, teleporting a few yards away from his home, which was in the center of an empty, eerie forest. It was completely devoid of life, even the trees were dead. There was no noise, perfect for the Death God to think. He soon approached his home, dark wood making its exterior. He climbed the stairs and opened the door, and was greeted with the sounds of pots and pans clattering against each other.
"SANS?"
"*sup, bro?"
His brother, Papyrus, exited the kitchen. He was tall, about a head taller and some than him. He wore his working clothes, which was pretty strange. A long robe with a bright red cape, a Gaster Blaster similar to his fastening it in place.
"YOU KNOW EXACTLY ON WHAT'S UP. YOU'RE RUNNING LATE ON YOUR JOB." His brother said, looking mildly disappointed, but was used to it at this point. sans hasn't done his job on time in eons.
"*whoops, looks like i lost track of the time. heh. i'll get to it in a moment bro."
"AND PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU AT LEAST DO THE REQUIRED AMOUNT INSTEAD OF THE BARE MINIMUM, SANS."
"*don't count on it, bro." He winked, snickering when he overhears groaning as he ascends the stairs.
He entered his room, which didn't have much to it. A bed, a window, a desk, and a box. which wasn't very surprising since he rarely ever used this room.
sans kneeled in front of the box and undid the lock with his magic. In the box was a bright, glowing glass flower, which unsurprisingly looked alive. He twirled the flower around his phalanges, noting the warmth it gave his skeletal hand, which traveled through his body.
His glass flower.
A rare delicate little thing. Re-gifted to him by his best friend, The Goddess of Life, the queen of the Gods. Ever since after the Era of Corruption, he had lost the old flower to save the queen. In gratitude, she gave him another flower. He didn't understand why she won't make a bunch of them, but he believes it took a lot of her magic, even for a powerful Major God. He tightly gripped the flower. Something about it. It made him feel...sentimental. A foreign warmth in his soul.
The flower was his, and he was going to keep it forever.
He sighed, no point in doting here, it was time for his job.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
He watched the anomaly, watched as it sighed and shiver. Watched as it continued to exist. His hands began to tremble, he couldn't let this anomaly continue living, he had to get rid of it. He didn't need a second coming of the Era of Corruption.
might as well amuse it with a knock-knock joke, he thought, he would get rid of it quickly and swiftly this time, and maybe ask a few questions. It's not every day you encounter a lone skeleton in the middle of nothing, under a light and a patch of grass. And this time, he wasn't going to let it get away.
