Summary
In which Clint corners Natalia in a hotel room, shots are fired, and a partnership accidentally sort-of happens. Yeah, another Strike Team Delta origin story. Not Age of Ultron compliant.

"You're just *mean*," he shot back disbelievingly. "Could you maybe not be a terrible person for five minutes?"
A little closer. Too many people want Natasha to be this 'flawless inhuman superheroine matched against l'il old vanilla-human Clint'. Fuck that - no playing favorites. Give each character their due: both are assassins on a superhero team, canon is that Clint could have killed her if he wanted to.
Do you have *any idea* how much harder it is to take down an opponent without badly hurting them? And if you go easy on the Black Widow, you end up dead. Period -- unless you're *just that skilled*.
That is the canon: no, Natasha did not kick the crap out of Clint; because if she had, she would have been completely unimpressed and walked away from a dead body.Clint is also primarily a ranged combatant - he has no reason at all to risk himself or even leave his preferred distance, unless he needs to get the body for confirmation of kill.
If he could kill her, he could sedate her if he had that on him, without her ever knowing he was coming. How the heck he ever got her to agree to come in is the part that's actually interesting.
Because again, canon: Natasha was not able to take him out, and she surely would have tried, if able to make the opportunity; and Natasha's characterization is also not that of a helpless tied up damsel - that would not convince her, even if she *was* actually helpless in the given scenario - and I don't see Clint being caught off guard by such an escape attempt. He's not cruel or power-drunk, and I'm sure he's been in those shoes a few times himself and would know what to watch out for. -
