Chapter 12: Over - Epilogue 2

Chapter Text

The morning light shining through the curtains of the bedroom was what woke Kian up and images of the night he'd spent with Mila began flashing through his mind almost immediately. He was smiling before he even opened his eyes and his arm reached out to touch the spot that he thought Mila would be but found it cold and empty. His eyes opened and he sat up to look around the room but once again found her nowhere. He figured that she'd just woken up earlier than usual so he slid out of the bed and began to look through the drawers to find some clothes to wear for the day but the only clothes of his left in the drawers were a single outfit. As he got dressed he grew curious as to where his clothes were but he decided that he'd just go find Mila and asked her. He trailed out of the home he shared with Mila and out into the main living area of the compound that pretty much combined all of the homes together.

The last thing he had been expecting to see when he entered the living area was the entire family huddled up together on the couch but what he noticed most were the tears on Franny's face and the solemn look on Bobby's face. He heard footsteps coming from behind him and glanced backwards to see Jc coming into the room as well. He walked forward slowly until he was able to see Mila among the group of people,"Mi, what's going on? Why does everyone look like their favorite pet just died?" It wasn't Mila who answered him though, it was Brian,"We're sending you home, kid." His eyebrows furrowed instantly and he turned to look at Mila's father,"Wait, what? Home?" For just a split second he thought they were joking but he could tell from the way that Mila refused to look at him and the way that Bobby and Franny were holding onto Jack and Elena that this was real,"What the hell do you mean you're sending us home? Is this some sick joke? Our 'home' was blown to pieces and I'm pretty sure that everyone we know thinks we're dead by now." Dom stood up at this point, his arms crossed over his chest,"Which is why Mr. Nobody has given you a cover story to tell everyone when you go back. You were attacked while you were at home filming a video with Nina and Noelle who were kidnapped too but you watched them die. You were all kidnapped by the mexican cartel because of..."

He zoned out after that, his eyes staring straight at Mila with nothing but anger in his eyes,"So that's it? After everything we've been through, you just want us to go home?" He looked up from Mila to glance around the room,"How the hell do you expect us to go back to normal after all of this? Do you want me to just pretend that none of this ever happened because I can't." His attention was focused back on Mila now,"Look at me, Milena." He stared her down until she looked up and he took a step forward,"I can't pretend that none of this ever happened and I can't pretend that I never fell in love with you. After everything I can't just leave this behind." He swallowed the lump in his throat,"Is that why you fucked me last night? Because you wanted to make me feel a little better about this? Because it's not working." He didn't care that he was being an asshole, he didn't care about anything except the fact that he felt betrayed and fooled,"Did none of this mean anything to you at all, Mila?" He turned to look at Dom and Brian,"I'm assuming we have no say in what we want to do, right? It's up to all of you to decide what we do and where we go with the rest of our lives?"

----

Mila had never come back to bed the night before. The next morning Mila stood with the family at breakfast as Jack and Elena had to tell Bobby and Franny the horrible news. Franny had instantly started crying and Bobby had just fallen quiet. Mila had pulled Elena into her arms and then handed her off to Mia when she saw Kian and Jc come in. She held her breath when Brian began to speak. Mila couldn't look at Kian's reaction because she had to hold back tears or else she'd cave and beg Brian and Dom not to let this happen and she knew it was the only way that Kian would be safe.
When she finally looked up at Kian her heart shattered. "I'm sorry Kian. But you have to move on. This isn't your home. Los Angeles is your home. California is where your friends and family are. You have to go Kian. It isn't safe for you here," she wanted to say more but she had to look away from him to finish, "This was all a mistake. I'm sorry I let it go so far. You don't belong with us. You need to go back to your normal life. The people who really love you are back there. Not here." She couldn't look back at him so she stepped behind Eric and Luke and covered her mouth holding back her sobs so that Kian would just leave and she could finally cry.
The second the door slammed shut behind him the sob broke loose from her body. She had been shot, stabbed, and flipped in a car, but nothing quite hurt as bad as telling Kian that she never really loved him. She pushed Brian and Mia away as they tried to comfort her and ran to the roof of the building to watch as the car that would take them to the airport drove out of the compound and across the island. She fell to her knees as soon as the car was out of sight. She felt as if the universe was mocking her pain as the sun glistened on the water and she heard the children's laughter from the houses around the compound. Mila had lost lovers before. She'd left men and they had left her but nothing had ever shattered her quite like this.
She heard her siblings come up onto the roof near her and ignored them. They had all had their goodbyes, except maybe Spencer. She could hardly breathe as she sat crying. She didn't know how long it had been that she stared at the road waiting to see Kian coming back down it suitcase in tow stubborn as she knew he could be. But the sun was starting to go down and she knew he'd be halfway back to California by now. She wrapped her arms around herself and shook her head, "I should have told him I loved him before he left."

Jc walked into the room just as Brian began speaking to Kian. The words were registering in his head but he just step away from them a little having awoken to the same thing as Kian, "You're all joking right? This is some kinda sick prank." He couldn't hold back the tears that started to flow down his cheeks. "That's why you said no last night," he whispered to Spencer who was wrapped in Marcos' arms not daring to look at any of them. "I asked you to marry me Spencer, why didn't you just tell me last night that you didn't want me around anymore? Instead of letting me fall in love with you." Tej and Roman had walked into the room with suitcases for everyone and somber looks on their faces. No one else in the family spoke but Dom and Brian. "We're doing this for your own good," Brian said as he walked with Tej and Roman to load the bags into the truck that would take them to the airstrip. "BULLSHIT!" Jc yelled raising his voice drawing everyone's attention. "You're sending us away for your own good. Because you feel guilty and don't want to take responsibility for anyone else. You think you're gonna protect Elena, Mila, Spencer, and Jack from losing us but the only thing you're doing is forcing all of us to lose each other," he shook his head and stepped towards the doors that lead outside, "What happens when we just hop on a plane back here the second we touch down in LA?" Letty was the one who spoke this time, "We leave tomorrow. You won't be able to find us."
Jc knew that Letty had never really liked him much but he knew that she loved Spencer. He couldn't understand how all the adults had decided this for them. "What about everything we went through? What about..." He could barely think, "This was the best thing that's ever happened to me." He looked at Spencer one last time, "¿Me amaste alguna vez? ¿Fue todo un juego? ¿Fue algo real para ti?" He shook his head not even wanting an answer really. There's no way that she could really love him and let this happen to them. "Ride or die, remember? But I guess we were never really part of the family," he walked out of the doors without looking back at Spencer and he got into the far back seat of the truck that was taking them into town. They had even hired someone from in town to take them so they didn't have to say goodbye at the airport. Jc shook his head laughing hollowly sticking his tongue in his cheek. The tears were pouring down his cheeks now as Franny got into the car after him and wrapped her arms around him as tears streaked down her face. "I really loved him Jc. I don't understand why they're making us leave. I thought he loved me," her voice cracked in a sob and her whole body shook in his arms. "This isn't the end Fran. I'm not letting it end like this."
The car was silent the whole ride to the airport. They all got onto the plane and flew back to LA without speaking to each other. Some team must have come in and fixed up their house because when they got there everything looked just like it had before Nina and Noelle had showed up on their front steps. Jc dropped his bags in the living room and watched as Corey walked into the room, "Where the fuck have you all been for the past fucking week!?" Jc laughed lightly and he shook his head, "You wouldn't believe us if we told you."
Bobby, who hadn't spoken at all since Spain stepped forward pulling a USB stick from his back pocket, "I kinda stole some of their hardware...I think I might be able to track them down." Jc looked at Bobby like he was the second coming for a moment before his face fell. "They don't want us Bobby. We were a mistake. Mila said it herself." Jc hadn't known how to comfort Kian after everything that Mila had said to him. There was no way that they could go back now. No way. Just as Jc began to unpack his things his cellphone that hadn't been touched since he left began to ring on his nightstand. For a second his heart let him believe it might be Spencer calling to say that it wasn't true and that she was coming to get him. But reality set in when he saw that the caller-id was his manager. "Back to reality."

----

"Por supuesto que era real para mí." Her heart broke even more that he even had to question her love for him. She looked away from Jc and buried her face in her younger brothers chest, trying to stop her tears from falling. Seeing him cry made her want to run into his arms and refuse to let him leave, but she knew that she couldn't do that. She had to do this, for him,"This is what's best, Jc. I'm so sorry." She watched him walk out of the room, hesitating for a few seconds before standing and following them to the door but stopping. She just needed to see him one last time, she had to. She wanted him to look at her, to acknowledge her one last time before he disappeared forever, but he didn't and as he climbed into the car she felt her knees buckle so she had to grab the door to hold herself up. She stared after the truck until it disappeared and she finally let herself break, her walls crumbling into pieces at her feet. She felt a presence behind her and she turned around to see Letty standing behind her. She immediately wrapped her arms around her mother and began to cry into her chest,"¿Por qué duele tanto, mamá?" Her sobs wracked her body and eventually she felt a comforting hand on her back but she didn't need to look to realize that it was her dad,"Lo amo papi." She heard Letty shushing her and muttering things to try to help and her fathers lips on the top of her head as if their comfort would help, but it didn't. She wanted so badly to hate them and lash out at them for making Jc leave but she knew it wasn't their fault. They were only looking out for everyone just like they've always done. Everything hurt and she didn't know what to do anymore,"I should have said yes. I should have taken the ring." But the should have's and would have's meant nothing now because he was gone and he was never coming back. She would never get to kiss him or let him make love to her again. She would never get to marry him like they both wanted.

She never loved him. That's what she had said and it shattered her heart into a million little pieces that he wasn't sure he'd ever be able to fix. He said nothing to Mila or anyone for that matter as he walked out of the room and slammed the door behind him. He wasn't just walking away and slamming the door on the people there physically but also on everything that could have been or should have been. Tears burned in his eyes as he grabbed his bags and walked out of the compound silently, throwing them in the back of the vehicle that would take him away angrily then climbing in the car. He tried to tell himself not to look back but he had to. He had to see everything that he was being forced to leave behind. As he turned around his eyes locked on a figure standing on top of the compound and staring at the car as they drove away and he quickly recognized that figure as Mila. He wanted to turn away but he couldn't bring himself to so he just stared at her figure as tears fell down his face until he could no longer see her. He said nothing to anyone the entire way home to L.A. and not even when they were confronted by Corey when they got home. He just dropped his bags by the door and walked straight up to the bedroom that he thought he'd never see again to collapse on his bed and reflect on everything that had occurred in the past week. In the period of a week his entire life had fallen apart around him and just as he had managed to start rebuilding it he was forced to start all over again. Images of Mila and the time they'd spent together flashed in his head and no matter how badly he wanted to hate her for hurting him like she did he couldn't stop his heart from craving her touch again.
