Elphaba shifts nervously against the pillow. She opens her mouth to say something, to deflect, but then Fiyero is pushing himself up and settling down at her side, eye-level. His hand comes up and holds her cheek. When he does things like that, he can see that feral, defensive part of her brain weaken. “What’s worrying you, Fae?” he mumbles, and there’s so much love in the way she stares back at him that he can almost feel her walls shake.
She takes a deep breath. “I’m scared that… that you won’t like it. And then where would that leave us?”

“Caitlyn,” she says. That isn’t right. That wasn’t the answer Vi was after. Names are easily given away but so seldomly remembered in Stillwater, but it echoes in Vi’s head. She almost doesn’t hear the actual answer. “And though I have no doubt a thousand people have given this answer before, I did nothing. I was doing my job, and then I was here. No trial. No sentencing. No crime to speak of.”

Her mother taught her how to shoot.
Her mother also told her that learning how to walk and learning how to sit were among the most important lessons Caitlyn can learn.
No matter how much she layered herself in lipstick and lace, earrings and eyeliner, she had always felt like a gangly tomboy who preferred to rough it in the outdoors with her gun rather than paint her nails at slumber parties.
Some things are just Caitlyn. And Vi remains a clear constant, a planet she orbits as she navigates the spaces in between. In loving Vi, Caitlyn loves herself. In learning Vi, she learns herself.

Caitlyn’s grown up with an expectation to maintain girlhood/womanhood, which is often paired with the concept of femininity. Vi, who subverts many stereotypes of how a woman is supposed to present, opens a door of gender expression exploration and self-acceptance for Caitlyn. A character study that focuses on Caitlyn’s evolving relationship with femininity from the moment she meets Vi.

Summary
Caitlyn gives Piltover everything she has. Vi just wants one night where she gets Caitlyn all to herself. Since Caitlyn won’t take a break on her own, Vi’s just gonna have to make her with some hands-on persuasion and a reminder of exactly how good it feels to stop thinking for a while.
Or, Vi takes Caitlyn home and spends the entire night loving Caitlyn up in bed.
