Summary
Fic tennis is a game played by "volleying" a story back and forth in pre-set increments (500 words, or 1000 words, or whatever length is agreed upon beforehand). There is no behind-the-scenes discussion of the plot outside of the fic; each writer has to roll with the other's plot and character additions during their volley. It is an improvised story, built by passing a single document back and forth, and it's hella fun.

“King Baelor now,” Lyonel interrupted his thoughts, and now raised his glass in a toast and urged Dunk to do the same, wine sloshing from glass to glass, red droplets falling upon the table. “Long may he reign and whatnot. Was almost taken by the plague himself, last I heard. Baelor twice-dead they should call him– that blow to the head should’ve been the end of him! He never fully recovered, did you hear? That’s what the dissenters say. A cripple as a king.”
“He’s not crippled,” Dunk said, fiercely, putting his cup down hard on the table. The relief was heady enough to set his fingers trembling. “And he’ll be a great king. He’s a good man.”
