A throwaway joke about Shang Qinghua crashing a PIDW meet-and-greet in cosplay would have once been only that, a joke, but with Shang Qinghua's bro/anti/situationship Shen Yuan having more money than sense it quickly becomes a reality. Thankfully Shang Qinghua is able to convince him that a BInghe can't be seen without one of his wives on his arm.

“You’re Xiu Ya!” Shen Yuan says again, because he’s dumb. He’s so stupid. Did he get catfished? No, beyond that, did he just tell Shen Jiu that he loved him?!“Stop!” Shen Jiu commands, his voice breaking on the word. Then he flushes even further and Shen Yuan sees a flash of teary eyes before Shen Jiu is running away. Literally sprinting down the hallway, full-tilt, no regard to the newly-waxed floors or Shen Yuan’s poor stamina.
“Wait!” he yells, and gives chase.

Summary
There was a glitch during transmigration - Shen Yuan's inclined to think such a thing was caused solely by how stubborn Shen Qingqiu is - and now he's stuck a less than a ghost. At least a ghost would be perceivable by people. The only person who can see Shen Yuan is Shen Qingqiu. Shen Qingqiu who's stubborn enough to ignore all of Shen Yuan's perfectly reasonable suggestions for how he should treat his disciples. One disciple, in particular. Since Shen Yuan can't mention the whole 'human stick' thing, trying to convince Shen Qingqiu to act like a decent human is frustratingly hard.
Appeal to Shen Qingqiu's common decency? Ha! Absolutely not. Bribery was the only solution that was ever going to work.

Summary
Life as a Hybrid means living a life you cannot own. Shen Jiu has been Qiu Jianluo's plaything since he was fifteen, but now, at thirty-one, he has far outgrown the allure of the usual "catboy". He is tall, and sharp, and vicious, and very determined to undermine his master's control. After sixteen years, he's bought his freedom, but it nearly costs him his life.
Dumped in the trash, he's found by Shen Yuan, who adopts him so he can get the degree of medical help he needs to recover. Resentful and bitter in finding his hard earned freedom already stripped away, Shen Jiu finds himself sharing space with his new master, waiting for him to show his true face and for his true intentions to be revealed.
For no human is purely kind for the sake of being kind. Shen Yuan must want something from him. He's just being nice until Shen Jiu is healthy enough to give him what he wants. That's all anyone ever wants from Hybrids.
There's no way Shen Yuan is actually a good person. It's not for masters to care for their property, after all.
