Lord, I know I should be grateful for all I have in my life, but I keep thinking about how everything once was. You have been with me since we were boys, growing up, racing, dreaming together, believing that what we had we would have forever. Have I been naïve?
People say that this is how it goes. This is sport where love isn’t meant to last but Father, You are Love, so teach me how to survive this heartbreak.
You know I wanted that championship more than I can explain, so forgive me for losing my patience and questioning You during that time. But what I don’t understand is why he left. Teach me how to forgive him because I don’t see how I can ever do it myself. Bless him and give him peace, even if it kills me that the life he will live no longer has my place in it.
Years stretch before 2016 and after it. How can we possibly forgive?

Summary
The first week of school after Christmas will always be a pain in the ass for Lewis.
From the start times that have him questioning if he's working the graveyard shift, the air that threatens to give him frostbite if he isn't wearing at least three layers outside, to a third of his classes begging for extensions on their coursework - this week would forever be the worst in Lewis' calendar…
Until he unexpectedly moves into his work-enemy's house that weekend and things start to take an interesting turn.

Recollecting their childhood, what has he learned? That violence is woven into the very fabric of their relationship. That if one was spiteful then the other was triumphant, and if one was satiated the other was hungry. It’s not to say they have never been happy for each other's success. But with foresight, with perspective, they would have learned to show their teeth right away, not wait for the first punch. Diplomacy in their case was wasted effort.
