It is hard to be truly happy when you awaken a stranger to yourself. When all you have is a face that doesn’t quite seem like yours, it’s hard to move it naturally to blend in with everyone else. Sometimes March felt like a skin stealer because of it.
There was no way this pink lemonade hair or these cotton candy eyes could be hers. No way this pillow-soft skin or doll face could be hers. No way. Her pastel paradise style didn’t suit her either. March had wanted to be cute—like the other young women that she had seen in magazines—but even then, it was still nothing but mimicry.
