Summary
They fall back into silence, but Eddie keeps looking at Buck. He couldn’t look away, not even if the stars were visible, not if they were in time for the best part of the sunset.
“Today was a good day,” Eddie says after a while.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah. It’s stupid how happy I was today. How happy I always am whenever I’m with you.”
Buck’s smile turns into something real and Eddie feels like he’s won something. “It’s not stupid. I’m always happiest when I’m with you.”
or, eddie diaz, but he's having a really great day.

Summary
“Do you want to come to church with us tomorrow?”
It’s out there before she can think twice about it. Eddie flicks his head round to her so quickly it looks like it almost gave him whiplash. His eyes are wide, like he’s in that moment before his brain catches up to what’s just happened. Like the moment before you scream out in pain when you register you’ve just stepped on a lego brick or slammed your toe into the leg of a table.
Buck freezes too, the plate almost slipping out of his hand. Helena thinks distantly that they won’t make a very good couple if they both freeze. Someone ought to fight, someone ought to flee at the very least.
“I’m good, actually,” Eddie says, a touch choked. “Thank you for the offer, though.”
or; helena diaz visits eddie in la. eddie grapples with memories of his childhood, helena grapples with having no idea who her son really is.

Summary
“Eddie,” he says, breathless. “I don’t want you to go.”
Eddie’s losing it a bit. He can’t talk round in circles anymore, and he’s running out of ways to even attempt to get into Buck’s head that he’s not a burden and Eddie is exactly where he wants to be.
“Buck,” he tries, taking note of Buck’s equally drenched clothing, the raindrops that cling to his eyelashes and the curls that lay flat against his forehead. He looks perfect, even now, and it’s shaking something in Eddie loose – something that’s sat rigid and unmoving along his spine - keeping him in line, keeping him sensible, keeping him rational and far, far away from doing the very kind of thing he’s about to do right now.
or: buck and eddie have a tiny little argument, and a tiny little kiss in the rain.

Summary
Buck makes Eddie feel hopeful. He makes him forget himself. He makes him think that there’s a slither of possibility in which Eddie can give everything, can hand over every part of himself in exchange for every part of Buck. It’s a dizzying experience, to doubt yourself so completely and then with a flash of Buck’s smile, want to try, try to throw caution to the wind because Buck would make it so good, easier than anything has ever been before.
or; eddie diaz moves into buck's house post stabbing. eddie drinks various fun, juice-adjacent drinks. eddie wants, wants, wants.

Summary
He looks back at Eddie and Eddie blinks at him like he knows. “What the hell? Fine,” Buck says, throwing a hand into the air and letting it fall to slap against his thigh. “Family trip to Hershey.”
Chris cheers and Eddie grins, like he’s won and hasn’t just signed up to carry boxes around and watch two people he barely knows and probably won’t be particularly welcoming, argue over furniture. He leans in to pepper kisses on Buck’s face, ending with an audible mwah to Buck’s birthmark.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself, Eddie. This isn’t going to be fun.”
or, old wounds are reopened as buck, eddie and christopher travel to hershey to help pack up buck's childhood home.

Summary
“You’re telling me, after I left for Texas, you hooked up with Tommy in my bed?”
“Our bed, Eddie.” Buck says matter-of-factly, literally being completely serious, like that makes it any better.
“Do you even hear yourself?” Eddie huffs, almost laughing at how not normal this whole situation is.
or:
Eddie returns from Texas, having unpacked his past, ready to confess his feelings to Buck, only to find out Buck got back together with Tommy while he was away. Eddie explores what it means to be normal with his best friend Buck, and quickly finds out that they have never been any such thing.

Summary
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I am. Fuck. I am freaking out,” he agrees, lifting his head to look at Buck helplessly. “You’re in my lap.”
“I’m so extremely aware of that. You’re not wearing any pants,” Buck adds.
A smile tugs at the corner of Eddie’s mouth. “I am also very aware of that.”
Or, another take on what happened after the couch scene. Eddie *wants*. They're both brave about it.

Summary
"Can I try something?"
"Yeah, sure, g-go ahead, man." Buck cringes, and even that is adorable.
"Close your eyes."
"E-Eddie," Buck croaks helplessly.
"I'm not gonna bite, Buckley. Trust me?"
Buck closes his eyes. Squeezes them shut, really.
Eddie tugs his face into the curve of Buck's shoulder before he can lose the nerve, Buck's pulse fluttering wildly against the tip of Eddie's nose.
Buck is struggling after the events in New Mexico. Eddie decides to move in with him about it.

Summary
Buck tries to commit the frame to memory, wills himself not to forget the important details—Eddie on his knees in front of him, his nails seeking purchase along Buck's thighs as he drinks him down, his drawn-out gasps when Buck returns the favor.
After, when Buck reaches out for quiet confirmation in the dark, asks him, "Good?"
Eddie tells him, earnest and hard-won, "Everything is good with you," and Buck can bask in the illusion of a world where he almost believes it.
Buck is trying to leave the past where it belongs. Then he wins an all-expenses-paid trip to Italy, convinces Eddie to join him, and falls headfirst into (not so) casual sex with his best friend.
