He was awakened by the sound of his phone vibrating, still facedown on the mattress. He reached out to grab it, and Carlos's profile picture appeared before him. Carlos was videocalling him. He rubbed his eyes and sat up, leaning against the headboard. The first thing he noticed when he accepted the call and his face appeared on the screen was that his hair was a mess, disheveled on one side and crushed on the other. He ran a hand through it, trying to make it better.
Carlos, who was taking up most of the screen, smiled at the sight of it."Hi, did I wake you?" he spoke first, his voice reaching Jannik a second later. He wasn't home, birds could be heard singing and the sound of the wind on the microphone made the audio unclear.

He’s still leaning against the wall, fighting the urge to open his eyes and sneak one last look at Carlos’s picture, when footsteps, distant at first, start to come dangerously close. And then a hand settles on his arm, burning like a glimpse of hell in his corner of paradise.
Carlos’s voice echoes off the narrow walls of the corridor. “Are you okay?”
Or, Jannik has just won Beijing and adrenaline and wine make it difficult for him to ignore his feelings for Carlos.
