Something shifted in the bed next to him and Buck nearly flew out of his skin. Carefully removing his arm from across his eyes, Buck peered over his shoulder to look at the right side of the bed. Broad shoulders and a tuft of brown hair greeted him. A pit grew in his stomach.
Just as Buck began to wrack his brain for whoever the hell could be in bed next to him the body rolled to face Buck and he came nearly nose to nose with his best friend.
Oh thank god, it’s only Eddie.
....wait.

Hen likes to think of herself as a very observant person. To be fair, as a paramedic, she has to be. She’s not sure how she missed this though.
Buck and Eddie, side by side, chatting idly as they get changed. Which isn’t anything out of the ordinary at all. Hell, if they weren’t changing together and teasing each other Hen would be worried. But it was when Buck placed a hand on Eddie’s shoulder to balance himself as he took off his boots that stood out to her.
Because as Buck struggled out of his boots, Eddie’s hand had reached out and settled itself on Buck’s waist to steady him.

“Are those… hearing aids?” He registers Eddie's voice through the ringing in his ears.
It takes him a moment before he can finally whisper it out. He feels his head nod against his will.

The door gives out.

“Right,” Eddie says slowly. “Except it’s Chim’s bachelor party, so we can hardly bring dates along, even if we could find them. That’d be weird.”
“Well,” Buck says, “I was thinking… what if we were each other’s dates?”
Eddie’s brain bluescreens for a moment.
Buck must take his total lack of reaction for disagreement, because he hurriedly says, “Like, a pretend date. That way we could test out our, like you said, moves on each other. And then be totally truthful about whether they worked or not. So we get honest feedback and we don’t have to worry about finding someone to try them out on and we can still make it to Chim’s party. And then give Chris some advice before Sunday. Right? Does that make sense?”
or, chris wants dating advice and it turns out taking your best friend on a pretend date to practice being as romantic as possible is not a good idea in theory or in practice, considering the pesky being-in-unrequited-love of it all

Because he’s not going to fuck up the good thing his best friend has going on, as much as he wants to, as much as he wants to grab Buck by the shoulders and shake him and say I’m in love with you, damnit! I’m in love with you and I’m sorry I didn’t know until now, but I know now, I know now, I can have this now-
He can have this now. That’s the worst part, actually. If Eddie told Buck that he was in love with him, Buck would drop everything in a heartbeat. Buck would apologize to Tommy and he would be there for Eddie because he’s always there for Eddie, and Eddie, selfishly, always lets him.
