    Summary

    For an adult woman, Ari was pretty much still a pushover, so it was no surprise that the children were able to bully her into this week’s misadventure. It couldn’t really be helped. She grew up as an only child, weak to peer pressure, and the kids in this town were so unusually persuasive. In fact, Dell’s blue eyes had such a bright gleam in them that it physically hurt Ari to say no…

    Anyhow, that’s how she found herself sneaking into Balor’s room on a Friday night.

    Summary

    She sees her family in their natural, chaotic state of being, yelling over each other and babies crying and food being shared, and no longer feels as if she’s still waiting for another to make themselves known, no longer picturing where another baby of hers would fit in.

    Or;

    Through her husband and her children, Katara’s understanding of airbending broadens every day.

    Summary

    The thought occurs to her randomly, while she’s at work. She’s assisting a young woman who had just been in a car accident— a teenager, really— with her pregnancy. Katara has her sitting on an examination table, her round belly exposed, water-covered fingers hovering above her skin. There’s a small mass, a heartbeat and a whorl of chi that she can feel, pressing back against her. Katara describes the entire process, and the girl smiles at her uncertainly throughout, a look of wonderment on her face. “And to think,” she whispers. “In the beginning, I’d been praying to get my period. Now, I feel so relieved.”

    The distant part of her that can still feel wants to commiserate. She wants to laugh, pat her shoulder, and say, “A baby can change everything, huh? Isn’t life so ironic?”

    And then it hits her, like a bolt of lightning down her spine— I can’t remember the last time I had mine.

    Summary

    “Because he’s a monk, genius. He works on Air Temple Island.”

    Katara’s mouth rounds. She’s not entirely sure why she’s shocked. Aang being a monk seems rather obvious, now, given the shaved head and tattoos, but she supposes it must be his age. Every Air Nomad monk she’s met— of which there hasn’t been many, admittedly— has been old, gray, and wizened.

    And, objectively, she thinks, glancing at him. Gray eyes flick away. Not as good-looking.
