“Do you feel like you’re waiting for that call again?”
He should have expected the question, but it still took his breath away. Because yes, every time his phone rang, some small surge of hope rushed through him. Didn’t matter how hard he squashed it, didn’t matter that Lucifer had played on that very hope, he still scrambled to answer no matter what he was doing. And it hurt when every single time the voice on the other end belonged to anyone else.
All he could manage was a terse nod. She seemed fine with waiting him out while he tried to catch his breath, adjusting the thin gold band of her wristwatch and jotting down a couple of notes. When he spoke again, she set her pen down and met his level stare with one of her own.
“I keep looking for him around corners. I jump when my phone rings.” Dean dug his blunt fingernails into his palm while cold rage trickled and pooled in his middle. “He should be here to deal with the stupid shit he said to me before he died.”

Summary
“Before you react,” Cas begins delicately, a tone that instantly has Dean bristling. “I’d like to say I think this is good for Jack. He will learn some responsibility, the virtue of patience, the payoff of hard work.”
Behind Cas, Jack appears to be wriggling with excitement and hugging himself.
“What happened,” Dean demands, rising from his chair at the map table and bracing for the worst.
Cas beckons for Jack to come closer. Jack, beaming like a kid on Christmas morning, steps forward as his jacket lets out an urgent yip.
Jack isn’t wriggling, Dean quickly realizes, eyes zeroing in on the source of the disturbance. The amorphous lump inside his jacket is wriggling. The lump that moves rapidly up Jack’s chest, snuffling loudly, and pushes at his collar until an animated little black button nose appears.
Jack unzips his coat with flourish as a tiny, smiling dog manifests in front of Dean’s eyes. “Sam, Dean. This is our new dog, Bean Winchester.”

Summary
In which Amara doesn't bring back Mary, she brings back John Winchester.
Dean is uncertain what Amara's meaning is when she brings John back, and struggles with coming to terms with the new family dynamic. Sam tries harder to keep the peace than he used to, and Cas does not get along with John at all- though he tries. Testosterone is at an all-time high as these four men struggle to coexist in the hunting world with very different ideologies.
We explore just how much the brothers have changed in the ten years without their father's guidance, the trauma they still haven't resolved, and the feelings that Dean and Cas hold for one another despite the very real and new barrier that is John.
