Summary
After more than two months of unimaginable torment, Bucky doesn’t know if he will be able to go through this again. He doesn’t know if he can heal from it. He doesn’t know how to find his way back to the person he loves, or how to stop feeling like he’s failing the people who never gave up on him.
But one thing Bucky knows with certainty: this time, he won’t let Hydra get away with what they did. This time, they will pay.

Summary
He had done this before. He had followed their orders, obeyed without question, and became everything they wanted him to be. Their perfect weapon.
But he had left, he escaped, and he remembered who he was. He started healing, slowly, and painfully. He had friends. He fell in love. He had a life, fragile, haunted by the blood on his hands, and the echoes of their cruelty and violence. But it was still his.
And then they took it all away. Again. They shattered everything he had fought to rebuild. He never thought he would go back, not ever, and certainly not like this. Not when they were using the person he loved to do it.
He had done this before. And now, he will have to do it all over again.

Summary
“Did you miss the future?” Me, he doesn’t say. Hopes it’s implied anyway.
“No,” Steve says easily, putting down his newspaper on the table. “Not as much as I thought I would. I always felt like I...”
It takes too long for Bucky to recover the breath that caught in his lungs somewhere between that fateful no and when Steve stopped talking. Right. Steve stopped talking.
“Felt like what?” Bucky prompts. He wonders, vaguely, if Steve noticed the crack in his voice.
“Like I didn’t belong.”
I don’t belong.
“Like I was living a life that wasn’t meant for me.”
But I thought maybe...
“That wasn’t mine.”
I thought I belonged with you.
Or
Bucky reflects on his final days with Steve, tries to text Sam back, uses Google way too much, and has a very, very long day.
