    “We’re in the middle of the desert, waterbender. So you might have that barrel, but once it’s gone, what do you have?” Zuko moved forward, into her personal space. She was shorter than him, and he was using his height deliberately to glare down at her, but Katara didn’t back down. He could feel the sun soaking into him – his power was strongest while she was at her weakest, and for a moment he wished she would start something so that he could beat her in a fight. “I can make fire anywhere, and you might get one shot in, but then I am going to make you burn.”

    The moment dragged out.

    They were glaring.

    Still glaring.

    This was the point where the girl would usually be flying away on a bison and he’d be covered in perfume or something.
    Something shifted in her expression, and Zuko started fully processing what he had just said, and how it could perhaps have been phrased a little—

    Her voice was completely flat. “Make. Me. Burn.” Her mouth tugged, started widening into a sly smile.

    His stomach dropped. Oh no. “I meant it like—“

    "'I hate everything about this city… but my favorite part of it is you.' She waited. He didn’t say anything, but she could hear the small hitch in his breath, and Katara knew that he was listening. That gave her the courage to keep going. 'That’s so messed up, but every day I wake up thinking about excuses to come and see you.'"

    "She looked up and they make eye contact. He was lying back on the saddle, his face drained of all color, just watching silently as she moved her hands over him. The others were talking around them, but she wasn’t paying any attention – all that mattered was his face and the look in his gold eyes – safe and alive and looking back at her like she was all he was seeing."

    "She stepped around Aang and walked up to him, then slowly slipped her arms around his waist. 'But I also really learned something, too.' She pressed her cheek against his, and just rested against him. Zuko felt his eyes close as he just held her. 'You were there with me every step of the way. You never hesitated. When I was standing over him, right before I did it, I knew that whatever choice I made, you were going to be there for me, and that gave me the strength to make a decision. Thank you.' She tugged his head down with exquisite gentleness and pressed a soft kiss on his mouth, one more chaste than they’d ever shared before, but Zuko could feel it rock him all the way down to his core."

    "Katara turned to face him, sliding her arms around his shoulders while she pressed her cheek against his. He could feel as much as hear when she whispered into his ear, 'Trust me, Zuko?' He ran one hand slowly down her hair, enjoying the feeling of it hanging completely loose from the crown of her head all the way to her waist, his fingers stroking the soft ringleted curls. 'Yes.' Katara pulled back, her smile gleaming in the moonlight. 'Then come in with me.'"

    "He looked up her, waiting for her. She’d kissed him down at the dock, she’d teased him that afternoon, but he waited, wanting her to choose, to be sure."

    "'I love you,' he told her, without fear or hesitation. Her eyes widened, her mouth dropped open in a soft little 'oh.' She walked to him, almost shaking, and wrapped her arms around him, her fingers drifting along the back of his neck. 'Are you sure?' she whispered softly in his ear. 'Yes. Whatever happens, wherever this leads, I want us to be together. A team.' He felt her arms tighten. 'Yes.' Her lips pressed against his cheek, his jaw, making a path to his mouth. 'I want that, too.'"

    "'... because I love you, and why did you even do that? And I was trying to save saying that for when we were somewhere nice and romantic, damnit!'"

    Set in the 3rd season, just after Zuko joins the Gaang. I mean, having Zuko go with Katara on an epic quest to find her mother's killer and help her achieve inner peace is great and all, but I feel like there was a simpler solution...also a highly overlooked use of bloodbending.

    Or

    Katara bends Zuko's blood into his dick, and then rides him while he begs her for forgiveness.

    Ugh, I love this fic

    "He could have anyone he wanted, and yet, he wanted her, for who she was, not what she could do or provide for him. That was just a plus."

    "It ends with an 'I love you.' The words tumble out of his mouth so fast; he doesn’t have time to overanalyze if it was the right thing to say. It feels like it was, and he’d been wanting to say that to her for a long time, so he just goes with it. She doesn’t miss a beat and she means it. 'I love you too.'"

    "She leans over and kisses his scarred cheek. 'And I’ll never leave you. They’ll have to drag me away kicking and screaming. I am choosing to go through this hell with you, okay? I want to help you rule and lead. I want to be there for you when you’re tired and stressed out. And I’m going to make you take vacations because these beds are way too soft and luxurious for you to not be sleeping.'"

    "Now Zuko feels like he’s the one that’s going to throw up because the woman of his dreams, the reason he jumped in front of a comet-charged lightning bolt, his waterbender, is pregnant. He wants to throw up from happiness and he doesn’t understand it but Katara keeps bringing all these feelings he’s never felt before out of him. 'You’re mine, you know that?' Katara blushes. 'I kinda thought I already was.'"

    “It’s you, Katara.” He murmured against her skin. “Always you, anything you do gets me so- I can’t think around you.” He punctuated his sentence with a little nip at the crux of her shoulder and neck, before he drew back, gazing at her with dazed eyes. A warm flush flooded Katara at his praise. “Me too.” She admitted breathlessly, caressing his face. “I can hardly keep my eyes off of you.” With a lopsided grin, Zuko tilted his face up to kiss her once more. “So beautiful.” He murmured, before dropping his head to lay kisses all along her collar bone.
