Summary
Buck dies, and he’s cold right away. They all are, this isn’t the kind of summer storm where the rain is almost warm. It’s freezing out here, even under all the layers of their gear. Bobby’s sure his own skin is corpse-cool, but he holds Buck and the harness pulls him stiff in his arms, and his body is cold, and he thinks Wait. It’s happening too fast. Wait. He’s dead, and Bobby lays him carefully on the gurney, and he rides up front with Eddie as they tear through the streets towards the hospital, frantic noise and movement reaching them from the back. He’s dead when they pull up to the doors. The human body begins to decay after four minutes, starts to consume itself, the final hunger. Bobby hears the crack of his sternum when Eddie’s palms press so far into his chest his heart starts to beat again. 43 seconds to spare.

Summary
Buck looks at Eddie, for the first time in eight years. The changes in his face aren’t as drastic as they were for Chris – Eddie didn’t have puberty to get through. But his age shows, in the crows feet around his eyes and the slight frown lines. Before he left, Eddie was still in shape for working in the LAFD. Eddie looks – softer. Buck has no doubt he’s kept up with his fitness, but being CPAT-ready is a different deal.
And despite himself – Buck thinks Eddie looks good. It’s like a pang in his chest, when he finally lets himself acknowledge it. Eddie is older but just as handsome, even though he looks as awkward as Buck feels. His traitorous heart does a little flip, like there’s a chance of anything happening.
or: Buck hasn’t seen Christopher Diaz in eight years – not since his dad moved back to El Paso, breaking Buck’s heart in the process. He’s surprised Christopher wants anything to do with him when he moves back to Los Angeles for college, but Christopher is adamant on reconnecting. But with Christopher comes Eddie, and Buck has to contend with the fact that he never got over him.

Summary
Chimney’s face does something complicated. “You’re… roommates,” he repeats.
Buck nods enthusiastically. “Yep. Roommates.”
Hen doesn’t blink. “You’re holding hands because you’re roommates.”
Ravi slowly stands up, still clutching his toast. “I have had roommates,” he says carefully, “and I have never held their hand.”
Eddie’s eyes narrow. “That’s sad for you.”
Or Eddie just wants to hold Buck's hand and everyone is being weird about it

Summary
Buck’s hands were roughened and slightly reddened across the knuckles, like he’d been chopping wood or working outside without gloves. There was a fading bruise near his wrist, yellow at the edges. His eyes were bloodshot. There was an unevenness to the stubble along his jaw where he’d either stopped caring halfway through shaving or never started. All surface details. None of them what Eddie actually wanted to know.
How bad is it today? How often do you hurt? What happens at three in the morning when the cabin gets too quiet and your head gets too loud. Do you still count the hours since the last pill or has that stopped meaning anything? When you said you needed space, did you mean from everyone or just from seeing what you’ve become reflected back in our faces?
Buck shifted under the weight of the silence. “Say it.”
Eddie frowned. “Say what?”
“What you came all this way to say.”
OR Buck leaves because he thinks he is a burden, Eddie follows.
