Summary
Sara is vending handmade jewelry, charms, fiber art, and small warded objects at an evening market in Caldwell. She is packing alone after the surrounding booths close when Zsadist appears.
He is coming off patrol injured and dangerously underfed. His regular feeding arrangements have fallen through, and human blood is preferable to allowing bloodlust to compromise the Brotherhood. He smells Sara’s magic before he sees her.
Zsadist expects to take enough blood to function, strip her recent memory, and leave.
Sara recognizes that he is not human. Her witch senses register hunger, old blood, and something predatory but not demonic. Instead of screaming, she asks questions. Zsadist answers more than he intended because her directness interrupts his normal script.
She agrees to let him feed under simple conditions: he tells her what he is doing, stops when asked, and does not erase her memory afterward.
