Summary
After dying in a motorbike accident, Ava was given the chance to live by a damned soul. Because it turns out the Halo can want things now, sort of. Not the way a human would, with thoughts or motivation or articulable desires. The Halo wants things the way a tree wants water and shoves a taproot through flagstone to get it, which is all well and good for the tree, but less so for the idiot trying to keep her patio intact. Unfortunately for Ava, she’s both the idiot and the taproot. The flagstone is her dignity. The water – for reasons becoming rapidly and unavoidably apparent – is Beatrice.
