Summary
Tiny Adorable Steve is back in his life, and Tony has never needed someone more. Betrayed and heart broken after the 'Civil War' that tore the Avengers apart, he isn't quite sure how to move forward when it comes to saving the world. He doesn't know how to forgive Rogers or how to fight the alien threat to Earth if he doesn't.
Steve mostly wants to kick Rogers' ass and then bundle Tony away where he'll be safe forever. Their kids can come too, and they could be happy... but his lover could never leave when his world is in danger. He couldn't do it either - they're both heroes, after all.
Defeating Thanos may be a top priority, but they have very different ideas on how to do it. The only thing they agree on is that they're not going to be separated by anything ever again.

Bucky was about to dismiss the bout of silliness but paused. He hadn’t really been worried about coming up with a motivation for the Winter Soldier. None of the real villains seemed all that bothered with having a decent one, after all. But now that he thought about it, if his villain was concerned with the safety of the world, he might decide to show the world that the Avengers were not enough. It would also explain why the Winter Soldier never actually killed anyone. His villain just wanted to prove a point, which meant Bucky wouldn’t have to think about murdering anyone, even on paper. Bucky started to grin.

Being alone isn't something new to Tony Stark - it's been a major life theme, really. But there'd always been someone, even if he'd taken them for granted before losing them. There'd always been someone, or in the past several years there'd always been JARVIS. Then Ultron happened and J was... it was Tony's fault, he knew that. Rhodey is with the Avengers who are not with Tony, and he and Pepper have been over longer than anyone else knew, and he was alone. Alone and stuck like never before, drifting through the tower he'd wanted to make a home.
When Steve comes back - in a very unexpected, dramatic fashion - Tony thinks it might be nice to not be alone for just a little while. But Steve's not himself, and no one else on his former team wants to admit it, which is... it's fine. He can handle this without them. Because it's definitely Steve Rogers in his home, looking all small and adorable, stirring up all kinds of feelings that Tony can totally handle by ignoring them altogether. It's only Steven Grant Rogers, dammit, even if Steve doesn't think so and... wait.
Multiverse. Right.
God, he doesn't have the energy for this.
